hi all again,

i read somewhere that the 325 and the 320 have inter changeable parts, i have a 1988 320i so was wondering if the oil filter of a 325 would be ok to change also if there are any other parts ie from the E36 models that i can put into my project as today ive found how hard it actually is to drive somewhere and get the right part without ordering it first......

thanks for your help

Oh and whilst changing the bulbs for something a bit brighter i noticed that 1 of the headlights acually move (broken screw) any1 know where i can get some?

Yeah mate... The blocks are identical... Its just the manifolds,head and general intake, and the throw of the crank - 750cc +/- is the limit between the 2ltr and 2.8ltr

All interchangeable BUT, you must match what you wanna change with it's relevant counterpart !

By this I mean, throttle body v manifold and head etc... Mybe injectors too but not essential.

dont mean to butt in haha, says in this lil thread what engines where in what.

just thought might help :D

Following on from the E21, the E30 was fitted with M10 straight-4 and M20 straight-6 engines. The 316 used a 1766 cc M10 fed by a carburetor and producing only 66 kW (90 PS; 89 hp), but this allowed BMW to offer a cheap, entry-level car in the range. The 318i had the same M10 engine, but with Jetronic fuel injection, pushing power to 77 kW (105 PS; 103 hp) and improving fuel economy. Finally, the 320i (2.0 L M20 with 92 kW (125 PS; 123 hp)) and 323i (2.3 L M20 with 105 kW (143 PS; 141 hp)) completed the range. Later, in 1985, a 2.5 L version of the M20 boosted the power of the top model to 125 kW (170 PS; 168 hp), replacing the old 323i. The 325ix (All Wheel Drive model) had a 2.5 liter M20 with 125 kW (170 PS; 168 hp) (same as the 325i).

just had quick look and think yours has the M20 engine

316 = m10

318 = m10

320 = m20

323 = m20

The 325 is indeed an M20. BMW have distinctive intake manifolds and easily identifies what engines what.

Not alot you can do with your lump my friend. The M20B20 was not an engine for modification as at the time, the M20B27 was the favoured motor due to Alpina working with it.

Some people have been known to swap the standard "B20 Intake with the one from the ETA engine stated above but this requires modification and the benefits don't weigh out the cons IMO
