Hi All.

Just about to lay my hands on a 1971 730i SE with genuine 65000 fsh and looks like it is still in a showroom ! Probably going to be a gas guzzler so not looking at it as daily transport, but wondering if this is worth spending any money on ? Bits will probably start failing once it gets more use than the 200 miles a year it has been doing, and I have no idea on the value of it. Anyone got any ideas to share ? Don't want to splash the cash if it is fairly undesirable, on the other hand it is a bit of a gem. So "Confused of Surrey" wonders what to do and what the value is ! Any help appreciated. Cheers

Do you have the year correct? The 7series started in '77 (E23)

It's a 1971 J reg for sure. I just checked the reg no against a valuation site and it confirmed a 730i SE. I'm going to see the car next week - just had the description from a family member, hence wondering what to do ....

7 Series was a but a dream in 1971. The first 7 series, the E23 started rolling off the production line in 1977 jsut as Dabs said. The previous was the E3 (New Six).

sorry but I doubt very very much that you own a 1971 7er. I know this as Im a bit of a 7 series nut (Within a nut....)

Welcome Bill, Have to agree with the other guys, 7 series never started until 1977, if the J is at the end of the plate will be 70/71 if the J is at the beginning the plate will be 90/91, if you get the correct details, we should to be able help you, good luck, car sounds good with 65,000 miles and fsh. I would get hpi etc. :D

Does indeed sound like a e32 730I, 7 series never seem to commanded large sums of money when they get 10+ years old. Parts can be brought new from the dealer without a problem. Very faithful old work horse which will have many years of life left in it,

Value wise maybe £1500?

Of course if its a 3.0 its a different story!

This will be an easy way to sort it... If it is a '71 it is Tax (excise) exempt and a great buy if it is sound !! ;)
