Can anyone offer any advice on tyres? My 335d has runflats (225/45r & 255/40r) on 17inch rims.

1/ Will standard non-runflats fit on the rims ok?

and

2/ Given that the tyres are such a low profile, will changing for standard tyres give a smoother ride?

if not, are are there runflats out there that don't feel like you're driving a go-cart?

Thanks

Yes standard tyres will fit mate and they will give a better, quieter ride.

Runflats are the devil on most forums dude.

Yeah, "Run-Flats" are over-priced and were developed for space-saving and convenience. BUT this was never the case, they are a far harsher ride due to their hard side walls and still collected damage after the puncture.

Have to agree with the others although the only thing I will say is that I changed the wife's 1 series run flats with normal tyres and although a far smoother ride and less harsh, it has made the car feel boaty and driving on the motorway can be hard work. Just what I've found mate, might be totally different in yours though

Ok thanks very much to all. I'd say that was conclusive!

Better buy some tyre inflator then...

Thanks again.

If memory serves, cars fitted with run flats have softer springs to offset the lack of sidewall flex in the tyre. So if you go over to normal tyres, that increased give in the side wall will make the ride softer still. And from personal experience, they're a swine to fit :(
