Hi everyone.... Got a little hick up. My girlfriend drove my car the other day moved my seat forward and the light just randomly came on. How do u turn it off??

Check the connection under the passenger seat - common fault !!

If it remains on then the Passenger Seat Occupancy-sensor has failed...

Hello Smithy

Another little bit to add to this, is if it has failed, it will need to be replaced!!

This year it is coming into force as a M.O.T failure if it is on

I know as I had to have mine replaced on the Z3 (and they ain't cheap!!)

Occupancy sensor under passenger sat mate

Bypass it with a cheap ebay fix, or take it to a MOTer who owns a BMW ;)

Just one little thing

Yes the guys are right you can put a bypass on it, but as I was told nine times out of ten they will put a disclaimer on it lol

But yeah that is also an option

I got mine replaced in the end

Here's an sneaky idea... Get a second hand identical passenger seat with no issues, cheaper than a new sensor mat, but nowhere near as cheap as a bypass !!

Yep, that will work !!

Hope you don't have an accident, though !!

I still have this problem too.. Might try and be sneaky and remove the bulb for my MOT :D

I think its a surface mounted LED, depending on car age, but still these can be broken without other faults

Its not due for a few months anyway but the light being on is driving me insane! Its been on since i bought the car and i know people will probably disagree but i reeeeally don't want to pay a fair amount of money to just turn off a bulb!

e36 dash bulbs are easy to take out,the dash clocks themselves are a different story, lol

p.s. they not that hard tho :)

Are they? I havent even attempted it yet as i have no patience when it comes to little fiddly jobs. Just seen the photos of your dash though Synpa and i'm jealous!

;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Theres 2 screws at the top of the clocks, undo them and pull the clocks forward, then just undo (not that easy) the plugs on the back, think there is 4 of them, then slide the clocks out. They are what I call swing arm plugs,ie theres a little arm you have to pull up to remove the plug but its got a tiny locking clip on it,so I advise when you get the clocks out you remove these locking clips altogether (just the little clips, not the arm),it makes them so much easier to remove again in future :) hope this helps

Positive Mental Attitude,Buy a bypass unit, come to one of the meets and one of us will turn the light out,so to speak

Only a few minutes. I don't actually live in Oxford, just outside. Hmm Birmingham is a bit of a drive for a meet..
