Hi

Im new at this so bear with me.

I was reading a web page /company who remap engines, i have a one year old f10 5 series diesel in black she is my pride and shiny joy, only used for social occasions , but it all seems to good to be true, an increase of about 34 bhp and an increase in miles per gallon, im probably never going to see the 147mph stated any way, but i might do a track day at snetterton later on.

Presumably i would have to inform the insurance.

Has any body got experience of going down this route?

Could it harm the engines in the long term?

More over would it invalidate my warranty

If any bodyhas any views i would be gratefull

regards Mick the chippy

Hi Michael, your warranty would be void with a re-map (Unless BMW Dealer did it !!).

Legally, you have to inform the Insurer of all modifications, but some might be more appreciative about better economy/emission mapping !!

I would would still like to here from any member who has had satisfaction doing this but not nessaryly for the track.

Im in the dark as to why if an after market com any can improve an engine why not do it at the point of bulld, is it me???

Hi Chippy,

Would be really interested too to hear peoples reponse here. I have a 330d that I would like to upgrade and know of a specialist in Suffolk (I see you are in Norfolk) that offers this. Apparently another 50bhp approx plus and additional 5mpg. Sounds too good to be true.

www.evolveautomotive.com will have all the answers you need :)

Hi Olliec as youve said, fingers crosssed there must be plenty of projects that have been done

They don't individually "Re-Map" at the factory for several reasons...

1- Different country emission laws.

2- It would take too long on the production-line.

3- Same map per model/engine combo is far cheaper.

4- Keeps aftermarket businesses ticking over !!!

What a mind of information! getting trough the questions, itll still nice to here from somone whos been here

I too am pondering over a remap on my 535D, After some homework Im considering Emaps to do the business £300ish. DMS is supposed to be the best one but at £900?? give your head a shake    .

On other forums there are lots of comments from people who have happily had remaps done. Ive not come across any that have suffered because of them. Here is an article you may find of interest: http://www.remapsuk.com/blog/?p=251

From what ive gathered so far. make sure your car can comfortably handle the extra ooomph so I wouldnt just opt for the one offering max power. Use a reputable company who offer aftercare and backup, there a lots of people doing this who have just bought a laptop and some software.

Inform you insurance company that your turning your stock beemer into a rocketship, I hate that they will up the premium BUT if you dont tell em and you loose it and kill someone they will find the remap and you are up the swanny with void insurance.

A few years ago I had an Audi 2.5TDI. Had it chipped and had a Merc MAF installed, 40BHP increase and it did no harm whatsoever , I kept the car for two years and it was still going strong when I sold it with 118k on the clock. The MPG was improved dramatically, 3 years ago I did Manchester to London and back on £25 (unbelievable but true) and it use to wheelspin in 3rd in the wet. :) :)

Gonna have mine done a few weeks before my warranty expires (work it out yourself) I'll post when its been done.

Good luck with the rocketship

Yep, very true... A Re-Map is very advisable especially if you intend to keep her...

As mentioned, the re-map WILL unleash some horses AND give better MPG !!
