Bmw Recalls 1.3 Million 5 And 6 Series Models Worldwide

German luxury carmaker BMW is recalling some 1.3 million cars worldwide because of potential battery problems that could, in extreme cases, result in a fire.

The cars involved are 5 and 6 Series models built between 2003 and 2010.

The company said it had received nine reports of the defect, but was not aware of any injuries resulting from the fault.

Owners should take the vehicles to authorised dealers for repair.

It said the battery cable cover may be incorrectly mounted.

A company statement said: "In order to carry out a quality measure, BMW is recalling all BMW 5 and 6 Series models of the previous generation, built between 2003 and 2010 and still on the market, for repair at authorised dealers.

"This can result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, to charring or fire."

It said it would write to all owners and that checks would take about 30 minutes and be free of charge.

Earlier this month, the company reported record profit margins in its core car business for 2011.

Its profits jumped by 51% last year to 4.9bn euros ($6.43bn; £4.1bn) compared with 3.24bn euros from the year before. Sales rose 14% to 68.82bn euros.

      Rear View mirror has come off windscreen screen

      Never experienced this before but the rear view mirror has seemingly parted company from the windscreen. It seems that a round metal disk should be glued in some way to the windscreen and then the plastic housing can be put back. Any experience/instruction out there on how best to go about reattaching this?

      Hi did you solve problem that your boot locked and no power ?? Also me got same problem 318i 2011 unfortunately i disconnected battery and closed the boot . Is there any easy solution ??

      Register new battery

      Morning Steve Where did you get the Battery ? they should have the code. When you say " upgrading " the battery be careful fitting an overrated battery can cause as many issues as a failing one. The correct battery for your car I believe is either a 90ah or 92ah AGM type also check the CCA (ColdCranking Amps) matches I have never used Foxwell to register a Battery only ISTA/INPA but I don't recall needing a 12 digit code just confirmation of the Battery type Have you checked online for any Video help there is a lot out there these days Dave

      Register new battery

      Hi, Have purchased a new exide battery which has not come with the 12 digit code. Does anyone know what i could enter to bypass this section. I am upgrading battery so detailes need to be entered. Using a Foxwell nt510 scanner.

      BMW M4 seats / Can they be installed in a 1 series

      Morning Kieran Welcome to the Forum This is a new problem, I would start with the power supply where have you taken it from ? If you haven't already I would check a wiring diagram for both models to see where the power was arranged in the M4 and check whether that supply is available in the 140 model. Then check www.realoem.com to see if there are repair/replacement looms available. Your description sounds like a relay is tripping in the power feed Good luck with finding the issue let us know how yoy get on Dave
