Car Veering To Left?

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I am new to the forum and this is my first BMW, so appreciate your help.

I just got a one year old 320d. It is lovely, nice sound, great power, interior etc. However, I feel like it veers to the left quite appreciably. On a flat straight road, if I let go of the steering, it will be off the lane in 50-100 meters. Tyres are fine and mechanic says there is no alignment issue. Anyone else experience this?

The truth is that ALL cars WILL pull to the nearside slghtly, this is due to how roads are constructed... It's a drainage thing.

But, if your car moves to the nearside with opposing steering-wheel pressure then its either the tyres (flat footprint) or the Toe setting !

Assuming that the suspension/bushes are ok !

Thanks for the replies. The car has only 12000 miles on it, and the tyres are fine. I just took it to the mechanic and watched the machine. The tracking is within 0 degrees 2 minutes, which is very good, so it is not that. Not sure what "kerbed" means, but do you mean have I gone over a kerb? Not that I am aware of. I have not checked the bushings.

My older car is a 12 year old Merc E240. I just took it our for a drive and I feel like it veers to the left as well. At this point, I have to believe it is the camber of the road that is doing it. Would you guys do me a favour and tell me what you see when you drive. Do your cars veer to the left on British roads when you take your hands off the steering wheel?

Thanks.

Track rod ends, ball joints, tracking, odd tyres at front, basically all of the above could do it...... other than that trying holding the steering wheel straight and stop turning it to the left ...LOL
