Hello everyone, I'm new on the site and I've looked around all over for a thread about track days. I'm hoping somebody has some wisdom to share about them, because know nothing! I want to take my M3 out and let its horses run free!!

My brother tells me that Rockingham and Snetterton are the best tracks for a beginner because they've got long curves and good visibility down the track.

He also tells me that there is NO INSURANCE on a racetrack.

What can you tell me people?

Like everything else, its hard to do a good comparison of costs, because every place offers a different package. So I've looked at the prices for "open pitlane", (even though I don't know what it means!!) and GP track, or nearest, and in September, because its more expensive in the summer months.

Donington £295 (GP track)

Snetterton £199 (300 circuit)

Brands £169 (Indy track)

Silverstone £299 (GP track)

Rockingham £240 (Intenational circuit)

I think I may be good enough at driving the M3 by September..............

Hi Jac, Track days are fantastic, but have to say it is better that you use one of their cars, as on your insurance policy it says about not using the car for racing and could invalidate your policy, on another site, a member went round a track day, only to find that he had his insurance cancelled.

Hello Alan, this is very interesting. I think the thing to do would be ask my insurer what their policy is. Because I don't want to drive any other car - the whole point is to see what the M3 is like when she can really stretch out....
