Hello all,

I am looking to buy a E46 320D early next year and I have read that a few of the owners have had the Swirl flaps removed I was just wondering what advantage this has?...

I am new to the BMW world so any info not only regarding this would be appreciated!!..

Many thanks in advance.

Get them out mate, no disadvantages only advantages.

There are quite a few threads on here explaining them.

£30 to replace £1400 to repair..

... That's from experience :-(

Ok thank Gav I've had a look and going from the I have seen I'll get them removed when I get the car.. Will I have to get it blanked off or anything?... can it be done by my local mechanic or does it have to go into a specialist?..

It may all sound like silly questions but I am NEW to the BMW world so any info and advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry to hijack your thread but i have recently bought a 320d e46 facelift model and i was going to check to see if the swirl flaps had been blanked off on my car this weekend. If they haven't I will be blanking them off. I would just like to ask anyone on the forum if they can recommed a place to get them from as I've seen a few on ebay also which size would I need to get and do I need to get any other gaskets or things as I will be doing it myself.

Thanks Paul

Cheers Chris. I'll give it a read. Didn't get a chance to check at the weekend so hopefully I'll get it checked this weekend.

hi all, I have a 320cd m sort coupe on a 2006 plate, I assume this has swirl flaps!! I am taking it for a re-map and full stainless next week, would you advise getting rid of the flaps first?

Hi all, I am also very new to the bmw scene but I think they're flaps that open to recirculate unburnt fuel (with the idea of being economical) but they're know to snap off and take out the turbo.

But please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,

Tom.
