Hi

I had to change the thermostat on my 1998 318 e46 and managed to snap 2 of the bolts that hold it on, I have tried to drill into the centre of the bolts and use a easy out tool to get them out but as luck goes for me I have snapped the drill bits in the bolts.

Can anyone give some advise on what to do or try next, as the only way forward I see is to change the head which I don't really want to do

They will deffo need machining out by a re-manufacturer! Your DIY approach seems to have been impatiently done...

Gonna cost you about £30-£50... Sorry :(

Same happened to me. I had to literally break the metal housing off the engine with a hammer as it was like it was welded to the cylinder head.

Machine shop drilled it out and tapped a new thread
