hi guys, iv got a 525 e39 2000 model, when i start it up from cold i noticed quite a bit of steam from the exhaust, this only lasts for 2-3 minutes, once the engine is warm thers nothing. it dosent do it all the time though, any suggestions.

How much steam are we talking about because, ALOT can indicate a number of things but "some" is normal :)

Hi daz, I find it's more when the weather is colder & when it's warmer there's hardly anything. Also the engine management light has come on 2 or 3 in the last 2 weeks.

Is it loosing water?

As you said it's more in cold weather I wouldn't be worrying unless water was being lost

Get it on the scanner in order to find out exactly what is causing Engine Management light matey and as Gav said, keep an eye on that coolant level

Could it be just a bit of condensation in the exhaust cos its cold etc ?? But defo get a computer on it to see why the EML comes on !! Keep us posted :)

Forgot to ask, when was she last serviced? Just want to get an idea of the overall "Health" of the motor. Also, is there much service history?
