hi im a newbie and thanks for a great forum I hope you can help ive just bought a 523 1997 r reg its an e39 I have a warning light on dash all the time I think its the low brake fluid light its red and an exclamation mark in brackets ive checked the brake fluid buts its full and the wires are plugged in to the top of the sensor on the fluid reservoir is there any other levels etc on this light or anyway of testing the wiring etc thanks for all your help by the way the light was working normally a week ago when I test drove it but today its on all the time the ignitions on I notice the handbrake on warning light is a red p in brackets and that works as it should thanks for any help rich

The light means a brake hydraulics fault or pads low.

If the fluid level is ok then I would guess the front or rear (or both!) pads need changing.

Do you have the lower spec instrument cluster with the car symbol?

yes its got the symbol of the car and shows if a door or boot is open thanks for your reply I ll have a look at the pads asap

just an update I just had a quick look and found the garage I bought it off has put a new set of front brake pads on but not fitted a wear indicator wire the connector on the cars wiring loom is hanging down I ll see if I can get one tomorrow and hopefully that will do it thanks for your help you've put my mind at rest lol hate warning lights on

At least it's an easy fix. :)

Doesn't say much about the garage though but nothing unusual there! :D

just to say thanks very much for all your help I bought a wire today and fitted it light gone out all working fine thanks for a gret forum keep up the good work
