ok so my car (320D E92 2009) pulls to the right, so i figured the tracking is out, got is laser tracked today and the garage reckons it was only out marginally and asked why i brought it, i explained how it pulls and they road tested it and reckon theres an issue with suspension or something. he wasnt sure but wants me to book in an hour diagnostics to find out. not sure if they are 100% legit or just trying to charge for diagnostics before doing the job adding £60, or if just being helpful. so does anyone know what can cause this, the tyres all have the exact amount of pressure in them and there is no nocking sounds or clicking at all. are there any more tests i can do to narrow it down at all? thanks in advance

And you didn't get diesel !Removed! out everywhere? is this a diesel thing or just a BMW thing? as ive only really worked petrols until this car

Im about to change the fuel filter on my 320D for the first time, on my old petrol car the steps were , depressurise the fuel system , remove filter hoses (a b*****d to do without breaking) put new filter in and re attach hoses (even more of a b*****d to do) and done Just to make sure Ive been looking for a guide on line and the only one i can find mentions nothing of depressurising the fuel system. is this a diesel thing? or is it a crap guide as im thinking the fuel has to be pressurised to fire out the injectors at crazy speeds right? so can anyone advise on if and how i do that on this car, sadly theres no haynes manual for my chassis /engine and year

If you leave the DPF in , take it out for a regen, smash it round the motorway for about 40 mins or more, have a decent amount of diesel in the tank. that way you know its not overdue one and you get to have a nice drive in ya new motor! I was going to get my DPF out but so many indies have told me not to bother, as the MOT laws are getting tougher soon but until it goes wrong leave it be.

Could This Be My New Tyres Or Thermostat?
peacheyd replied to peacheyd's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Have done mate, twice, still averages 37/38 and today i just did a run from Kent to brighton at 12 in afternoon so no traffic (and no cameras) so not a single stop or even shift down from 5/6th and still only 38, usually thatd be in the 50's. I know my tracking is off which wont help but o go from 44 to 37/38 can this much be down to going from 30 profile to 35? -
How Many People Use Higher Performance Diesel?
peacheyd replied to scottj15's topic in Oils, Fuels & MPG
I use normal diesel (non supermarket) with some additive every few tanks. I used millers additive and notice no real difference but if it keep my injectors clean and lasting longer than i guess the extra few pence per tank is worth it. The V power stuff though is the more expensive option and gives no real results , if your that worried about fuel quality id say go with eh DIY option so much cheaper. -
So very recently i replaced my rear tyres from 255/30 runflats to 255/35 non runflats. the same week i had my timing chain changed and a new clutch fitted. I used to always get around 45-47 mixed MPG and now it wont go past 38MPG is this coza the extra 5mm on the profile or could this be a thermostat or something? didnt know if just a 5mm difference would make that much of a change, it is on 19's mind any one got any opinions?

how many miles do you drive a year and what kinda of miles are they?

Wikid choice mate!

Could be valve seals, oil on exhaust wouldn't really do that. Take it to an independent BMW specialist Faaaaaaaar cheaper than BMW and arguably better service. someone else might come along and tell me im wrong on either point. Burning oil could mean oil has found its way into the cylinder (hence possible valve seals), when you idle and the valves open or not sealed oil builds and finds its way into the cylinder, when you then put ya foot down to move its burned and blue smoke chucked out the back. again (unless someone can correct me)
-
Blue smoke usually signifies burning oil, whens the last time you checked the levels / changed it?

Newbie Here Just Wanted Say Hi And Post Few Pics Of My Car
peacheyd replied to BrendanE92's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Love it, is your rear window tinted aswell? dont look like it form here, i think it would finish the look off -
hi matt, a wise choice from an Audi! best bet for your oil would be , castriol edge 5w 40 mate , i think your car takes 6.5 litres. the service schedule on these is silly usually 15/20k miles for oil change i would deff suggest doing one more frequently than that, once a year / 10k tops (some might say its abit OTT ) With any oil though you want to check it meets "BMW longlife-04" which they normally state on packaging

Melt the engine? pretty sure no dpf would reduce temps

Blanking Plug For High Presure Diesel Fuel Pump
peacheyd replied to neale's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
looks like a ##### to find, you could try a scrap yard? -
happy days! Let us know how the DPF removal goes , i really want this done but im not sure about these new MOT's, menna be a considerable difference though with less back pressure, and sound better to.
-
Did he remove the cam head or something to actually look or is he just giving his opinion?
-
No worries mate, let us know how you get on. Other than that there wikid cars, great on economy if you do the miles and good fun with all that torque , cant wait to remap mine.
-
This is quite a bad one, mine wasn't half as loud as this but it progressively got worse, and would go depending on operating temps, and was louder when i pressed down on the clutch for some reason. you might be fine but deff get it checked or keep and eye on it coz if it snaps it is game over mate, and can be dangerous to as if your on the motorway doing anything close to what the car can do and it snaps you lose all power so steering brakes the lot. sorry to have put that on ya mind but im glad someone told me when they did lol
-
your pretty much on ya own. They dint recall it as they virtually denied the fault for ##### knows how long. then they offered parts costs which i think would have to be with a dealer (which would be 3x more expensive on labour anyways) I just got mine done for quite a reasonable £1400 inc parts labour + VAT by local BMW indy, i got quotes from £2k down to £1400 . The chain is at the rear of the engine which is why its so expensive as its very labour heavy job. If you call any BMW indy and ask for an N47 timing chain change they all pretty much quote there and then so im guessing they do a few. Did you buy private? and if not did you get or buy any warranty? I bought a warranty which covers the first £2k, however it doesn't cover timing chain change, but it covers engine failure due to a chain (makes sense..) if the chain snaps its about £4.5K easy for a rebuild so i was still better off doing it myself. this is the sound (the ticking in the background)
-
Yeah its common. how many miles has it done and does the sound , sound like a tick of a large wall clock? as in almost exactly 1 second between ticks. best way to tell i found was have the car idle in a quiet place and open drivers door and listen close to the wheel. Had to give bad news but if it is a bad chain and it snaps eventually you'll be a GOOD few grand out of luck. The other way to amplify it i found was in an enclosed place (between two walls or something) I first heard mine start in a Mc Donald's drive thru lol. I had a look and 2011 is still N47 but less common, the "official" green light date is 03/11 EDIT* its deff an N47 you have but it could be an unaffected one that late. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=P&series=E92N&body=Cou&model=320d&zone=ECE∏=20110100&motor=N47N&steering=R&arch=0

Use decent Oil, when i change mine next in about another 1K miles ill be using Castrol Edge, will cost you about £70-80 for 2 bottles which you'll need anyways as the car takes around 6.5 litres. But you wanna make sure the oil is up to the BMW long-life 04 standard I been advised I wouldn't bother with winter tyres, its never normally THAT cold for that long (at least down here its not anyways) . If it snows just take the train or something for 1/2 days of the year lol
-
Theres deff lot of benefits to remove, both power and economy and avoiding future failures but if these MOT's get tougher you could end up having to buy a brand new one anyway (unless you know someone) this would also effect the value of the car. At least normal Decats and EGR's are cheaply reversible. My DPF is prob coming close to the end of its life so im not gonna touch it until i have to coz they are so expensive. A remap is deff on my agenda though , from other owners there is a massive difference. Theres a really well respected place near me called AMD and they make the map themselves based on your car on a rolling road which is apparently the best way. Also do you know if yours is an N47? as 2011 is when the whole timing chain issue was changed but i dont know how late in 2011, might be something to keep an eye on, thats what mine has just had done as it was ticking at 100K
