Hi Andyamn. Thanks for your input. It's not an illmunated gear knob (unless it was originally supposed to be?!) Standard M spec option I believe. There were wires underneather the gear knob - are those the ones whicch should be secured? What do they do? I have checked the relevant 4 fuses (those affecting the dashboard illumination as listed under the engine compartment fuse box cover). All appeared to be good. I have read on another forum from someone changing their gear knob, that they had a short at the back of the light switch. Sadly twisting the light shitch dimmer/ rheostat makes no difference. Think I'm going to have someone try/ fix the switch for me. No good at this stuff myself! Thanks alot.
