  1. As per Greydog, the I selector pushes left and right, scroll to destination input and Robert is your father's brother. Although I always push the damn thing in the wrong direction. Upt'North.
  2. Spray them with silicon/back to black spray and voila! Spray it on and wipe it off. -5 here this morning, the car door opened right up. Upt'North.
  3. I've got a 2014 X1, I think it's on 225/45R18's, but don't quote me on it. Only ever had two warnings from the TPMS, both wrong and reset normally. Temps here are anywhere between 20 to 90 deg f. Also frequently wet and snowy etc. The warnings I have had have not been weather related. I don't know how much the sensors are but it may be worth changing them but I guess only 1 may be faulty, does the readout indicate it's the same tyre every time, if so just change one. I also take it you're on an extended warranty over there but that's no use if they aren't listening to you. Upt'North.
  4. I think you may find any weak spots at Santa Pod Steve. Try to leave with straight con rods and all your valves intact. Upt'North.
  5. As a whole I haven't found BMW dealers too bad, my normal franchise is Lloyd's in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Although the car was purchased through BMW UK, so the dealers have only looked after servicing and warranty work. The only problem but I'm guessing this is the same everywhere is that faults are becoming more difficult to diagnose and subsequently repair; 10 days for a rear washer for example. My worst dealer experience would have to be with VAG, now they are a bunch of work and they all have the same attitude, an appalling one. Hope you find something you're happy with. Upt'North.
  6. Have I missed something, I thought you were enjoying it? Prey tell please Suzuki Boy. I was thinking of selling the X1 but with what I was being offered I've decided to keep it for now but it will cost me another 12 months BMW warranty next April. Upt'North.
  7. Reading your post again, the new coil pack did something so I think it could well be the wiring to the coil. If he W, W, W, W, W, W, wiggled it Granville then he could have just W. W. W. W, wiggled it enough to make a connection. Now read it again doing an impression of Ronny Barker. Upt'North.
  8. If it's covered in petrol then, either, There's too much fuel or not enough sparky, bang, bang; sounds like the name of a p*rn star. Or so I'm informed. If you moved the coil pack and no change, then like Grey Dog says you need to rule out faulty wiring to the coil. If this wiring is OK, I'm guessing you would need to check the resistance but I'm no electrician, then the injector would be my next approach. I'm also guessing that if it was over fueling to that extent it would noticeable in the sump. Has it got a dip stick, does it stink of petrol? Still thinking, yes it does hurt. Upt'North.
  9. I would drive it to a tyre centre and try with a rattle gun, keep your fingers crossed with the locking nuts. Look on the bright side, the tyres will last for ages if you can't get the wheels off. Good luck. Upt'North
  10. As GreyDog states, it's not just about snow and ice but the temperatures at which tyres best operate. If you live in a cool part of the UK 4 season tyres work well, and they are fitted to the wife's non BMW. My only option is full winters which is too much of a faff, when it's cold and snowy I drive Er'Indoors car on Cross Climates, now they are a good 4 season tyre. Upt'North.
  11. If you can hear the lock trying to open then I'm guessing it's stuck in some way. Is there an internal panel you can remove to gain access to it to see what's going on. I'm guessing then it might be time for WD40, if indeed it is otherwise OK. Upt'North.
  12. Phil, your fuel consumption seems OK, not great but it's got to be about right. The ECO mode at least on my X1 seems to make little or no difference to the economy but kills the vehicle, everything just seems lifeless with it on. It's that long since I used ECO I'm not even sure I know where the button is. I think you'll find it more economical without the cruise on but the speeding tickets will soon cancel out any advantage. I believe you could extend the mpg by predicting Hills etc, but the gain would be small. My X1 X Drive on varied running, it's the 2000 cc 18D, has returned about 48 mpg over its life so far which I'm happy with. Upt'North.
  13. Unfortunately you are running a car and using a franchise service that can only fix fault codes. This is the modern way, and probably little different to other makes. I too would be disappointed with BMW UK's standpoint. But I wouldn't be surprised. Cars will only become more complex with the passing of time and what we experience now with these annoyances are probably nothing compared to what's coming. Anyone fancy a 1980's 3 series. Not that we'll be able to drive them anywhere because they'll be banned or taxed out of existence. Upt'North. ☹️
  14. I think the X Drive thing refers to wear variables for axles and front to rear. I think the max difference recommended is 3 mm either on the same axle or front to rear. So if your rears are down to 2 mm and your fronts are at 4 mm, then you shouldn't just change the rears but all 4, hence confining two perfectly good tyres to the scrap heap unless you have somewhere to store your very own collection of part worns. This is assuming the new tyres will be around 8 mm. Upt'North.
  15. +2 DPF regen had warmed things up. I've had this happen a couple of times in 50,000 odd miles. My Focus 110 diesel did it most days, but I DID enjoy driving that. Upt'North.
  16. I would suggest he checks with the Franchise to see if his car is part of the recall or not. If so, Robert's your father's brother. Upt'North.
  17. I haven't got a clue. But........also check with your local BMW franchise dealers as they store winter tyres/wheels for the regulars, they then sell these on occasionally at competitive prices. If yours is RWD you're right to be concerned. Upt'North.
  18. Welcome Scotty from Northumberland UK. Upt'North.
  19. Wot no dipstick. Now call me stupid....... Thank you....... But is that just stupid. I presume it tells you how much oil to put in. Upt'North.
  20. Hello Royal, It could have been switched off but it may just be your use. I find that mine usually refuses to start stop unless I have been on a long run, I would think the cars brain (pfffft) can say it's not fully charged, it's not up to temp, the lights are on, I'm too stupid to work, etc. Personally, but I'm not a town driver, I hate the things. Upt'North.
  21. You're showing your age Suzuki Boy. But that's OK, you're amongst friends. Very nice 2.5. Upt'North.
  22. It could be a blocked breather, worn rings/bores, valve guides etc. The plugs should be oil free if not then it's certainly being burnt. When filling do it by the dipstick, if you're overfilling it will only exacerbate the situation. The Cat is probably being killed by the oil. The engine could be a victim of BMW extended service periods or of course the mileage may not be accurate. Good luck. Upt'North.
  23. If under the typical BMW service regime and it hasn't had the oil changed in a while I would tend to that, but presumably the dealer would have serviced it prior to delivery? Presumably you'll also have the BMW assured warranty in place for piece of mind. If you ask the service dept to change the oil early it'll send them into panic, they don't understand that the car service indicator isn't god like. Enjoy your X3, I think you'll enjoy it. I can't remember the last time I saw Triumph 2.5. Upt'North.
  24. I think if you do the transmission fluid, coolant and brake fluid you should have covered the urgent stuff. I'd also check the flexible brake hoses when time permits. It's a nice looking car. All you need now is sunshine. Upt'North.
  25. Very nice looking X3 kit. Welcome aboard. Upt'North. But probably not as far North as you?!?
