  1. The air con pulley has a kind of slip bearing on it which would make this noise if the air con is off. Turn the air con on and see if the noise stops when the clutch on the pump engages. it definitely sounds like something attached to the belts rather than the engine itself. I had an old e36 4pot which had the pulley with the knock sensor on it. That bearing failed and allowed the pulley to move forward and back. Try pulling each pulley away from the engine and if one moves, it is a good place to start
  2. That’s A metallic sound. Does it change on revs? firstly check oil levels on the engine. I would think the noise is a bearing from a pulley. Most likely the alternator or air con pump.
  3. Hi all. sorry if this has been done before. i would like another key for the x5. I have been quoted around £150 all programmed and cut, I didn’t think it was too bad.... secondly, can I have the individual keys set for seat position etc. my wife is a fair bit shorter than me and uses setting #1.... I get in and have to press #3 and wait a few seconds till the car goes to my settings. can we code the keys to select our settings on pressing the unlock button? I have the bmw 1.4.0 software and can talk to the ecu. thanks! The key is the older diamond shape, the car is e53 2002 x5
  4. Is it automatic or manual? if it’s manual, can you push start it? my thoughts are... starter motor if it’s manual or automatic or gear select sensor If it’s automatic (if they have them fitted, basically they tell the car not to start if they are in gear) can you put a 12v feed direct to the starter motor? good luck, let me know what happens
  5. Well..... kind of! picked this up on EBay for £30. Jacob is only 11 weeks old, he will grow into it! ... and the headlights are brighter than the wifes e53!
  6. Wow Dave, sounds like fun with the halos. this one has them fitted so I’ll leave them in. God shout about the led bulbs, I didn’t think of that. I’ll get some and report back! cheers stu.
  7. Afternoon Dave, thanks for the reply. the car is mine in the pic. I was thinking they were aftermarket lamps too. I think I might put some original ones in as I can’t see a thing! thanks for the advice, I have used quarry before for one of the e36’s
  8. ..... are utter poo! can the standard headlights be upgraded on a 2002 model? apparently it has projector lamps. I have seen brighter caves. is it a straight swap for hid or too much hassle?
  9. Gave it to my friend .... I had to get an x5 as the new sons pram won’t fit in the e46. Lol
  10. Awesome! thanks for that, I’ll give it a go later thanks Dave.
  11. Dave, thank you for your great reply. I am using a c110 scanner, it works wonders but I could do with the bmw one that everyone talks about... the 1.4.... mall the sensors are clicking and all sound the same, so I can’t seem to find the weak one. Ill get the other scanner and see what pops up. Thanks again!
  12. Hi, i have had a few BMW’s but I now have my first x5. Its an e53 2002 3litre petrol, manual. Anyway. Simple question about parking sensors.... as always, by sounds of it. Sorry if I need to post this somewhere else the system doesnt beep when I reverse. It beeps for a few seconds when I engage reverse and the light on the centre console flashes. I have checked the sensors and they are all clicking, front and back. I have plugged in the obd scanner and no codes are thrown up, I cleared them anyway, but still nothing. Any ideas, and please feel free to move this post if needed. thanks. Stu
