  1. 3 yrs old an only 42000 miles, it shouldnt be the clutch. People have been know to destroy a clutch in an afternoon but you have to be damm brutal with it. If the car drives ok and you can change gear as necessary then it could be a weird electrical issue. Try taking it to a BMW specialist rather than the main dealer. A BMW diagnostics check is a lot cheaper than a clutch investigation.
  2. 1- Turn everything off interior lights etc, Check the battery with a voltmeter, a good, charged, battery should show at least 12.5v - if you cannot do it then most local garages can do it and do a load test. Takes two minutes. Most modern cars dont perform well if the battery is weak or failing. 2. if the battery is ok then you may have a parasitic battery drain. Modern BMWs do use more power than the older models even when switched off. Check on Youtube on how to trace a parasitic draw, lots of good info out there. eg pulling fuses one by one and check the battery drain- can take a while...... 3. Worst case would be a weird electrical fault, which means you will need to find a competent car electrician. 4. If necessary get a new battery, make sure it is the correct type and rating for your car, (most battery suppliers eg VARTA BOSCH and AA RAC have a battery guide) sometimes BMW can offer a good deal on a suitable new battery with a decent guarantee. DOnt bother with cheap stuff of EBY that will just let you down in six months time. good luck
  3. I have heard of this algae problem with BMW washer fluid, and using the non BMW fluid. I dont know why this is a problem as I have never experienced any such problems in my LONG car owning experience and using whatever screen wash came to hand. It could just be the long period of being stationary is the problem. I have heard of various cheap fixes, check them out via google.
  4. just google it I found this https://www.wilcodirect.co.uk/catalogue/bmw-space-saver-wheel-kits and https://www.tyremen.co.uk/wheels?vehicle_type=3071&primary_category=2178&secondary_category=4458 but not sure if they have what you are looking for re 19". Good luck.
  5. Have you checked this BMW tech info site? https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ Key in your car details and you can find LOTS of details...
  6. I am getting my refund from Diamond car insurance.
  7. You can buy a suitable space saver wheel and tyre from a number of places. Even EBay has them. What might be more difficult is finding somewhere to put it in the back of your X5 with a gas tank already fitted?
  8. Thanks John I have sourced another website, where I got previous good satnav maps from and they are sending me a new usb with the maps already on, so we shall see....
  9. Just thought I would relate the problems I had trying to update my 2016 satnav map n my new/2nd hand x3, to the latest 2020 from BMW. I found I got get a free map update on the BMW site, great I will have that. SO downloaded the data a LARGE folder, and got the activation key. I found I needed a bigger usb at least 32gb. SO ig ordered and received the new USB, copied the data over and plugged it in- no response from the car system. I hadnt put all the necessary files into the root directory of the USB. Tried again - no response. Checked the usb and read the forums and discovered that BMW use either NTFS or FAT 32 formatting. I had used NTFS formatting and it hadn't worked. Start again- download the zip data again, ( not really necessary but wanted to avoid any other errors), unzipped on my SSD which speeds this up a LOT. Tried to format my new USB using FAT 32 and found my computer wont do that as it is using W10 latest version and FAT 32 is OLD tech. SO had to down load a program that would do the FAT32 formatting on the USB- done. Copied the satnav files to the root of the SUB ( no folders), stick it in the usb port - success!!!!, it asked for the activation code- I keyed it in VERY CAREFULLY, double checked it and hit OK. Nothing- no response, waited a few minutes nothing. WTF! SO I cooled down, dammed BMW for wasting an afternoon, for having crap software in thier expensive cars. Next day I started the car to do something else and I got a message up saying map update was on hold and to put the USB back in to complete the process. SO went and got the USB and plugged it in and the map update continued and completed and I have the latest maps Yeha!!! So be warned it should be a straightforward process to update the maps- (on my previous car a Honda- you just put the new disc, at a reasonable price, in and it was done- no hassle at all) but BMW have made it a bit of a nightmare, and the process badly needs updating with much better instructions and information, or make it automated, like Honda. Sooner I just use my phone for satnav and auto updates and forget about BMW media system the better. A new BMW with apple maps maybe at 40k plus- not this year! PS Tried it on my wifes' older BMW but gave up - different system, different problems, poor instructions and advice, and have currently given up. Another afternoon wasted!
  10. Having trouble seeing my contacts on my phone on new 2nd hand X3- 2016. It can see my phone and "Pairs" to it ( or seems to), but not able to see my contacts. Tried about 4 times to remove phone, that works, and then re "Pair" which seems to work, but then no luck. Any advice would be helpful.
