Hi all, looks like I have a seal failure as moisture looks like it is in the side panel light on one side of the E64. Where would I find the bulb spec for this light? Are they readily available. The actual bulb holder may also need to be replaced but cannot find any new, only used. Any pointes on buying new ones as I am suspecting the seal will go on used ones and I then have the same problem. Any advice gratefully received. Paul

OK gents, well the spring action came back. I gave it a good Wd40 spray some months back but it has taken to late March to see the spring action has returned. Thanks again for taking the time to answer.

Hi Dave, yes WD40 was the first thing I tried. Seems like the spring may have failed, so not sure I can actually repair it. It still operates the automatic opener just does'nt return to flush after doing so.

Hey that is a great tip on the rear light cluster seals. How old was your vehicle? Seems like a bit of good practice to follow that.

Hi all, just checking I am not missing anything on this. The BMW badge boot opener on my E64 seems to have lost the spring back action. It still opens the boot but then does'nt return to the flat on release, instead staying depressed. Is this a new part or is there a repair possible. 2006 E64.

Hi , just an update on this valve stem oil seal matter. The 650 i went through a further oil change in July 2021 and then an MOT in Late October. Again, I used the same additive as before from Liqui Moly. Absolutely no smoke at all in the MOT and it passed with flying colours. I am quite impressed by this additive as it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin.

Had a good look around at all lights and function and nothing obvious. Ill go through all the led lights and check them all to see if even one LED has gone. could be as simple as that.

Hi all, anyone know the part number to replace the heated washer jets on my E64 - 2006.

Hi Anyone had an issue with my 2006 E64, I am getting light failure alert, parking light but on inspection there is no failure. On plugging reader in, it is saying a 'supplemental light failure' and that is it. All lights appear to be on and working including parking lights, if anything daytime angel eyes appear a bit down on power. Maybe that is a clue. Appreciate any insights/experience. Paul

Hi Greydog, well it was the LMII so managed to get a direct replacement on line(£50), same number and all the same notations as the original. Slotted it in and off it went. Had a local BMW specialist recode for me (£40) . I have kept the original and will enquire of the two companies you mentioned as far as repair is concerned but learned a lot from the thread. Many thanks.

HI, said I would come back to you on this subject. So removed the LM unit and gave it a good clean down with circuit board cleaner and a soft toothbrush. Reinstalled and hey presto the fault had cleared. However, next day it was back but day after cleared again. Not convinced it is the LM unit now and could be a lose connection. That is even more concerning. I am thinking about re cleaning it again and all terminals as well but good to see the first clean had an impact. Removing the LM was fiddly but doable, certainly a job for the smaller chap though on the E64. Thanks again for the pointers on this matter.

After many years running my E64 650i, turned on this morning to be advised that the whole lighting system was inoperative, indicators, lights, brake lights etc. Did a search and found some references to problems with the light control module. Also some experience in cleaning it off to remove dust and maybe light corrosion and then being able to replace it. Any experience on this in the group?

all good discussion points. Ive seen some of the vintage voltage progs as well and they do seem to undertake a lot of work in addition to the electric conversion. For me range is really not the challenge so at some point it is stick with the best looking convertible in the world and convert it or buy electric. More to follow me thinks....... As to the V8 growl, well Lexus are using synthetic noise so I am guessing this is a simple add on to any conversion!! Crazy.

Anyone got into conversions?. Im not doing big trips in the 650i and wondered what a reasonable conversion would cost and what to expect. Just started doing some sums and thought if I dont need greater than say 150 miles range in any one trip then might a conversion be worth considering? Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Dave, I too was a sceptic but I thought to give it a try. No other symptom other than smoke. if the guides were a problem I might have expected a few more issues I suspect. But for now all is good and I am sold on the additive. Yes, enoying it very much, fab bit of kit

HI all, new to the site. I have a great 650i , 2006 done 87K miles, full history which I think is a fab car with the N62 V8 engine. Car does about 3-4K miles a year. Recently I noticed some smoke at the rear which looked like oil smoke and following some research and checking of various breathers etc I pretty much isolated it down to the valve stem oil seals. The smoke was bad enough for it to have failed MOT so I did some digging and sure enough the confirmation was valve stem oil seals. So what to do? I went back to the books as it where and came across a series of articles on oil additives that can help rejuvenate tired valve stem oil seals. So at the next oil change I purchased some LiquiMoly product (thought I would trust the Germans) and put this in with the specified oil. I ran the car for about 3-400 miles and the smoking disappeared, to the extent that it passed the MOT also. I know there are a range of such additives out there and to be fair I was a bit sceptical but I now have the proof. Is there any other experience on this with this or other additives as I want to learn more and understand the limits of said additives and when I might have to bite the bullet and replace the seals. So far so good though and I plan to continue to use said additive with future oil changes . Would appreciate any experience share
