Hi Dave, I fitted one of the sensors on the rear but it has made no effect as the light is still there, I will fit the other sensor tomorrow and see how it goes then. You mention the disconnect the battery, is there any pattern to this ? is it both leads or just the negative lead? cheers Paneuro.

Hi Dave, its now Friday the 8th and I got the car back on Wednesday. They said the dual mass flywheel was fine so they did not fit a new one. The clutch is 50% lighter than it was so I am having to learn to drive it again. My wife might even have a go at it as the clutch was far to heavy for her before (don't know if that's a good thing or not). Anyway my wallet is £586.00 lighter than it was but at least its done now. My next problem is finding out how to reset the brake pad lights on the dash. When it came on I took the wheels of thinking I needed new pads as I had fitted them in 2017 when I got the car but there was at least 5/16" on the front and about 1/4" on the back. I pulled the sensors out and the looked fine, none of the 2 were showing any wear so I put it down to faulty sensors. I ordered a new pair and while waiting for them cut the originals and soldered them together. I have tried to find a tutorial to put the lights out without success so I need a bit of help there. I've looked on u tube but can't find one for my model. cheers Paneuro.

Hi Dave, the guy said they only use LUK or SACHS so we will see how it goes. Its not going in until Oct 6th so I will use it until then. I will let you know how it turns out. thanks Paneuro.

Hi Dave, number 1, I have no ramp , 2, I am 82 years old so not DIY. The company as far as I can learn are very reputable and say they only use LUK or SACHS . I normally do my own repairs but in this instance I think I will go ahead and have them do it. regards Paneuro.

I checked again yesterday and was told they didn't know if it had a dual mass flywheel but if it had, it would be £1000 , if I didn't wand the dual mass flywheel they will not give any warranty on the clutch plate or flywheel.

Hi. I don't know if its a dual mass flywheel but why would the flywheel need replaced? surely it would just be the clutch plate and the pressure plate? I had look on the OEM site and there is no mention of this dual mass flywheel. I have been quoted £500 to £600 and just wondered if that was reasonable? thanks Paneuro

Hi, I have a BMW 530d E61 manual 6 speed M sport with a slipping clutch. Can anybody say if thed clutch is adjustable or is it a case of a complete replacement. If its a complete replacement what kind of cost can I expect for this? I would rather avoid a main dealer if possible. regards Paneuro. p.s. its an LCI model.

525D M Sport touring dashcam rear camera installation issues
paneuro replied to ren's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Hi, I have a 530d e61 and i fitted a rear camera to mine with great difficulty, I managed to get it through the hinge and into the headlining then brought it down the front pillar and into the fuse box. it is possible but by no means easy, me being a tight scotsman i was not keen on paying halfords to fit it but there were a few times I wished I had paid for fitting. I can only say take your time and be very careful. Paneuro. -
Hi Dave, you could very well be right about the release bearing, but sticking for 7 years? The service history says the car had a new clutch fitted about a year prior to me buying the car at about 60,000 miles. I must admit I found the clutch heavy when I first bought the car but since I got used to it I don't notice it. On the other hand I have had several experienced mechanics test drive the car for other reasons and most of them ask how I manage to drive it because of the heavy clutch. I suppose if its not broken I should not try to fix it but it just niggles me. cheers Paneuro.

Hi Greydog , we have spoken before about other things. I kind of thought about that myself but did not think of looking at part numbers, Can you say if this is a common problem with the 6 cylinder cars with a manual gearbox. thanks Paneuro.

I have owned this car since November 2017 and the clutch has always been heavy since day one, so much so my wife refuses to drive it. I have eventually decided to have a look at the pedal system after reading a few posts on you tube. I have removed the under panel to reveal the pedals but can find nothing wrong that I can see or feel any play in the bushes. I have found a post in the USA where they can obtain an aftermarket clutch pedal with several settings for the over center helper spring. Does anybody know of these pedals being manufactured for right hand drive cars. These adjustable pedals apparently make the pedal much lighter. thanks Paneuro.

Hi, I fitted a new cap on the crank case breather and I have driven it for 2 days now and have tried to get it to smoke and it seems to have cured the problem! I am wondering if it would be sensible to fit a complete new breather and is there an updated one. The steering rack would appear to be electric as there are no hydraulic pipes, nor is there a power steering pump or top up tank, what I do notice is there is at least 2 universal joints on the steering column which I will lubricate. I will keep you updated. thanks Paneuro.

Hi, the only thing that puzzles me is the fact that you can drive this car for 20 miles + and it is clear as a bell and then you can get a load of blue smoke for about 100 yards and then it goes back to behaving itself. there is no pattern to when its going to happen. ??? Paneuro

Hi Dave, nice to hear from you again. Firstly oil level was low (min), I will have a look at these hoses and vac lines. Am I looking for cracks, blockages, or what? I have lots of experience re valve stem oil seals and would rule that out for now. I have paid particular attention to when lifting of from high speed and then flooring it again and it is clear as a bell. The steering however is heavy compared to my 530D so would need to look at that. I will need advice re the hoses/ vac lines and steering angle sensor but I appreciate your help and it does make sense. thanks Paneuro. P.S. I am waiting on a new crankcase breather.

I have more info about the 3 series, its an E91 318D manual. I took it for a fair run today, about 20 miles each way and it spewed out blue smoke twice for a few hundred yards once on the outward and once on the way home, after it happens it clears quickly and is fine. I am getting a signal on the dash which is a capital A circled by an arrow and on the right hand side of that is a heavy upside down exclamation mark if that makes sense. anybody know what that means? thanks paneuro.

Hi, I now have more info. the car is a 2011 BMW 318D LCI and has done 130,000 miles. I was on the OEM site and note that it appears to have a separate dpi filter fitted just behind the catalytic converter? Would I be right in thinking that this part is consumable similar to say an oil filter or not. When you look at it in the parts diagram it seems like a filter on its own. Anybody know? thanks Paneuro.

Hi, I have my daughters 3 series here , possibly an e39 but not sure. Anyway it has the DPF light on and the only symptoms is after a fast run its putting out some blue smoke which very quickly clears up as soon as you take of again. I will know more tomorrow when I have had a right look at it . I only followed her for about 20 miles when she came to drop the car of. Any quick ideas. Paneuro.

BMW 530 d manual E61, I have noticed recently that some cars similar to mine have 4 angel eyes on the front while I have only 2. It may just be newer models or 2of mine are not working. Anybody out there clear this up for me? Thanks Paneuro

Hi Dave, just noticed your question. BMW were not specific but they did put in writing that the problem in their opinion was caused by suspect low voltage which most people on this forum and others suspected from the beginning. Anyway car is running well now thanks to people on the forum and the BMW dealer. thanks Paneuro.

Hi guys, just to let you know I sent copies of the receipts to put the car right to the battery suppliers (£352.00) and they reimbursed the full cost within an hour. thanks Paneuro.

Hi guys, car is now fixed and it cost two hours at the BMW dealers. thanks for all the advice. Paneuro

Hi guys, it wasn't BMW that tested the battery and alternator it was the company who supplied the battery and they gave me the print out from the machine. I was there and he handed it straight out the testing machine. BMW have the car at the moment and they have got it going. They phoned me and said they were monitoring the battery overnight to see if there was any drain, if not I can go and collect it tomorrow.
