  1. So I took the car to a 'German' garage and had the codes read on their ISTA equipment. Absolutely no codes showed up. They took it for a drive and re-read the codes. Again no codes. I got the car back home and read the codes again with Bimmerlink - even more codes than the previous "Errors within Central Gateway" were now suddenly showing up. I tried clearing them and some of the new ones wouldn't clear either. Anyway, I've driving around for a week since then and just went out and read them again today. Loads of errors this time lol... Who knows what this means but it could mean an issue with heating only when heating from the battery. 2. Thanks again Dave. I don't really understand what that percentage 'State of Charge' is - and from a quick Google neither do many others 😀: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=what+does+bimmerlink+"State+of+Charge"+indicate. Seems like it may not be a good indicator of battery health. I took that reading during today's quite cold morning and before starting the car. Another possible contributory factor could be that most of my drives now start from cold and are only a few miles long. That can't be great for a battery. Mind you, I did do 150 miles each way last weekend. As you say, the voltages would indicate a healthy charge rate. You're right about the 'wallet alerts' - I should stop worrying about them. The battery cost £290 at the dealer as it was. Someone also suggested to find a place that has ISTA and get it to read the codes and see if they are present using that tool (and what it might suggest to fix them if they are). Cheers! Julian
  3. I found a couple of different sensor values related to the 12V battery that I could attach to a Bimmerlink dashboard, plus Bimmerlink has a separate 12V Battery State button. The readings seem to look fine. So the images show 1) Battery state 2) Voltages with engine running 3) Voltages with engine off
  4. Thanks Dave. The car is running very well - no warnings of any kind on the dash or iDrive. I had the battery replaced by a BMW dealer in December but I will use Bimmerlink to read the voltage later just to be sure. I replaced it as I had a much wider array of error codes when it was first read by a friend's Bimmerlink and it had been suggested to me that the old battery being on 64% could be causing some of the errors. I'll update the thread in a bit. Cheers!
  5. Hi all, Bimmerlink has been consistently returning the following errors on my 2016 F45 225 Xe Active Tourer: Info Memory Date: VIN: 10 Central gateway module 8 errors 101008: Non-resolvable ambiguous routing - SG not in the SVT target table 100600: Flexray protocol startup time is too high 100601: Unexpected asynchronous state on Flexraybus 100100: Contact to FZM slave lost 100104: HW Weckgrund ZGW 100300: Commissioning could not be carried out because TAS is already busy 100203: DM software error info warning 100204: Message monitoring: no system context signal Can anyone tell me what these mean? Are they related to each other or have I actually got 8 problems here? Thanks, Julian
  6. Hi Wishplay, I can't answer your questions or even make you feel better but I will tell you that I am about to put myself in the same position. I have a post on here about my heating issues in my 225Xe and after asking a non-german specialist garage what could be wrong and being told "we don't touch them mate" and then having booked the car into a german car specialist and having them do diagnostics (that I had already done on Bimmerlink), they told me that it would have to go to BMW because it could be the auxiliary heater and that has to be coded into the car and they could not do that. They said it needed BMW's coding computer to do it. They also said my car needs a software update. So now I have the car booked in on 25th and I have taken out the second mortgage. Good luck, Julian
  7. Thanks Dave - I didn't really dig deep enough did I? I totally agree about the thermostat. But as I described above, the guy at the local (non-BMW specialist) garage was adamant it wouldn't be that. I will see what I can find out about the fuses as that did occur to me. I did try to find out what fuse would be relevant to the auxiliary heater (as that was the first problem that I was trying to solve) but I did not succeed in finding out what fuse that was. Even if I replaced the thermostat (or otherwise solved that side of things), that would not fix the heating while driving electric problem. Cheers! Julian
  8. Good questions. As always, the answer may not be so simple. I don't even see a thermostat on the diagrams per se (although I think I have seen them for sale, supposedly for my car). Maybe I don't see it because it's incorporated into one of the water pumps - as suggested by this eBay ad: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203998329786?epid=2322048505&hash=item2f7f3f7bba:g:tAQAAOSwx~xirYS9&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4C45FGjO0ZBSB5yoYiKvz6Em8VMpa2K%2BTlrmqhHR9z0MEMONaBdJz9vlYr3n5eglXIwS0Gt%2Fin934YiRltbfCChTq7P89PI0D4iqEVGEsN7A4zUXsWvJ1MuF7xc8nuGQ0yuCXYeJ93cUQqrv0YcM8t6tdaeiktS1UiCIgb647n9aoURka2czLvk09XNfgE26LuR1vGlRZ%2B0pVfTEYwsmGAxgzT0V2jFxTiak3Yb%2BdqVZxqh184wslpyY0udf%2FnXdhVJncGXPmv288jsrx5vYy9mnbUry5WefBCeJljA26ASf|tkp%3ABFBM3p-Vnq5h . Anyway, the main page for my car is here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=2C72-EUR-09-2016-F45-BMW-225xe So the relevant diagrams seem to be: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=2C72-EUR-09-2016-F45-BMW-225xe&mg=64 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=2C72-EUR-09-2016-F45-BMW-225xe&diagId=17_1055 https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=2C72-EUR-09-2016-F45-BMW-225xe&diagId=17_1044 It looks like there might be two separate electric motors involved (as well as the auxiliary heater for heat while driving on electric power). The problem is that unlike cars back in the day, you can see almost nothing of the engine by simply looking at it. Every space is filled with something and you can barely get your hand in. I would assume that each component has a sensor that could potentially be monitored with a tool like Bimmerlink. I don't know how else you would diagnose anything in this car! I haven't been very successful in finding the right things to monitor yet though. For instance, I found this sensor 'Actual speed electr. water pump rpm'. But as you can see from the log that I produced (attached), the value is always zero. Does that mean it's broken? Who knows? I'm really thinking that I am going to have to get BMW to diagnose the problem(s) and then decide what to do about what they tell me. Thanks for your help. Julian Quick edit: Looking at this eBay ad, the thermostat does appear to be a separate part on its own... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384685699776?hash=item59910df2c0:g:N8oAAOSwJhRh5ptw&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4HqbkOosC0mLnTG%2Fk3aZCPAuDiUpHeoQtjOKUJQ9hYriIiokPBHoT475hl1PJdiz426WbRvnYIg4yCNs79ohDxVAjxrUVrPbJTnvFNSPOvEAwAjf%2BG68b0sSfae3Eq1p2W7dYPpQYk5zF2Ji1Q28h%2Bw2e62H6lOUFmINugJ%2FqbRW2A862K8XzRzbmADC8r8VyHscfQPTnRyaX1q9m8JzkmLfjNjxeDf4nnxnnNShOuxegC37CBBB2ujERktvjhHV4Z8cNhwq%2BkbsS4TJ%2F12CmdNERO1rRrVx3afaMLHdyUDn|tkp%3ABk9SR4DWyZ6uYQ Log-2022-12-26--11-47-16.csv
  9. The errors that I posted in my first post of Dec. 28th, are the errors that I now still get *after* clearing all the errors in Bimmerlink. Strangely, they do not include the original heater related messages that I got before. As regards your suggestion to 'check the main thermostat'. Do you mean with Bimmerlink? If so, do you know how would I do that? I've already monitored the coolant temp, which looks normal (yet I don't get heat of course). Cheers! Julian

  11. Hello again Dave, So just an update on the above. I bought my own Bimmerlink and Bimmercode and a BlueTooth OBD device, so now I can read the codes myself (a little power in the wrong hands lol). To try to reestablish a baseline, last week I cleared the codes (some it wouldn't let me), prior to driving down to my Dad's for Christmas (160 miles from Derby to Wokingham). When I got there I re-scanned the codes. The ones I got back, I pretty much get all the time (plus a few more like the Dynamic Stability Control one that I haven't seen before) and I think I'm going to have to get them checked out by a competent garage. Strangely, the errors I was receiving a month back about the auxiliary heater are gone (I will look for that error report and post it in the next message), however I still have zero heat when driving on battery. So strange that I have no error code to point to now. Here's what I got. 12. Hello all, As we're all aware, It's suddenly winter! So what better time to bring up a heating problem I have? Actually I have two problems with the heating in but I'll just ask about one of them in this post: When driving on petrol, the heater takes ages to warm up - 10 to 15 minutes perhaps before the air 'starts' to be noticeably warmer (although it does get very warm eventually). In my previous car (a 2016 Ford Focus) the heat started coming through in two or three minutes, gradually getting warmer from there. Back in the day, you might have seen me with a piece of cardboard covering my radiator or I might even have thought about putting in a new thermostat with a lower opening temp but I can't imagine we're still doing things like that - especially on a BM!! Might there be anything simple I could do to improve this? Cheers! Julian BTW - The other problem is that when I'm driving on the battery, I get zero heat - ever. I'm not going to dwell on this one in this post because now I've had my new 12V battery installed by BMW, I'm going to reset the codes next week and see what comes back about the heater. So more on this then.
  13. I don't have anything to offer you over and above where you are now, but I have shared a similar type of story (but much less serious) after buying my car. Just wanted to wish you luck and offer you support from afar. Good luck! TJ
  14. Hello Dave, Thanks for the reply. As often happens, the damn thing fixed itself (actually it's a wonderful thing I should say). I arrived at the dealership and had just handed over the keys when I remembered I wanted to ask them about the app. So I re-approached the service rep, pulled out the phone and started asking about why the app might not update. And of course - you knew it - the app had updated lol! That was before the 12V battery replacement (now £290+ quid lighter as a result) but who knows? I was interested in the fact that they apparently used my key to initially check the state of the car (?). I had asked them to be sure that the battery really needed replacing before just doing the work and they produced a printout saying that the data from the key had confirmed that the 12V battery was low. I had no idea the key held that kind of data. I was also interested that they didn't run a diagnostic on the car to try to up-sell me on everything else that is wrong with the car (there are a lot of potential issues). Anyway, now the 12V battery is replaced, I will clear all the codes and drive it for a day then see what codes come back. I haven't shared the Bimmerlink output that my friend did for me yet, but it wasn't fun reading. I only asked him to do it because I don't seem to get any cabin heat when driving on battery. I will re-look at that after the redo of the Bimmerlink diags. Cheers again! TJ
  15. Hello all, First post - and I admit not a joyous one but hey can't help that. Scared what BMW will tell me tomorrow... I've been using the "My BMW" app for quite a few months now, both on my personal Android and on my work iPhone 13. Last month I had to replace my old Android with a new one but I'm not sure this fact has anything to do with the issue I'm writing about here though. As I say, I've been using the app for a while and it has reliably notified me when charging starts and ends, as well as the current state of charge at any given time (along with the other functions the app offers). I was away in Asia for all of November and when I came back, I proceeded to put the car on charge. However no notification happened via the app on either of my phones and both reported that the car was not plugged in and had only 59% charge. Over the course of a day and a half, I went out and unplugged the charger, played with the buttons on the controller thingy in the charge cable and generally tried to fool it back into working. However, the apps (on both android and iphone) remained stubbornly unresponsive and the percentage charge did not change from 59%. Sunday, I went out in the car and was surprised to see that the charge was 100% (it had been around 48% when I left it). So this implies that charging was in fact happening but that the car was not reporting this charging to the app(s). Has anyone seen this behaviour before? Any easy fix? BTW - the car is getting a new 12V battery at BMW tomorrow morning, so I will also ask them if they have any idea about this (but scared what they will say). Cheers! TJ
