  1. LOL Brilliant discribition
  2. Done abit of a blag today, brought a blue bonnet( wont get one the same colour as mine!) for £25 quid plus 2 bottles of wine and a pack of wine gums! NOW! Ideas on what to day, Do i A, paint the roof and bonnet and get here back on the road ASAP B Repair the whole car and refurb the wheels to correct finish(they used to look STUNNING!) C buy a sports kit de chrome it and put a set of 18 BBS on it and lower it?and then it will look like just another modified e39 Whats every one thoughts? Parts of me like the way sports look, however mine is just a old SE and it always will be?? gonna have a think about it over the next week
  3. M50 engine=2.0/2.5 24v vanos/non vanos fitted to late E34 and early E36 Cast Iron block,Larger more power friendly inlet manifold and throttle body and yes the ECU was mapped slightly differently however it was within the "adaption" limits of a m52. M52 2.0/2.5(badged as 323/523)/2.8 Ally block much lighter! the engines themselves cannot be interchanged without a custom engine mount being made, more restrictive inlet manifold due to tight emmsion laws, however can be replaced with the earlier manifold with an adpotor kit (about £80) which will take the M52 2.5 from 177-190 and the 2.8 from 196 to 215 bhp. So in idiot terms buy a 328 sport coupe slap a earlier manfold on, re-map it say hello to about 220=230 bhp with the sound track from heaven under the bonnet. hope that helps
  4. Sometimes engines will throw up fault codes, which once cleared will not come back, the old X5 had it drummer into its brain that it had a missfire on number 8, and that the coil on 3/4 wasnt working correctly................it was correct as it was a 3.0 Diesel. If the Dealer has cleared the code, and the car is running fine i wouldnt worry to much. All these modern leccys on cars are a wounderful assistance however it will never replace common sense. The dealer wouldnt be doing his job unless he mention it to you
  5. now whats the mproblem??? or best not to ask!
  6. If dabsy cannot help, send me the vin and I am sure to have one in the shed.nice early e30.im a jelous man who needs photos of thos motor!
  7. If you like alot of chocolate on ya biscuit join our club..... Back on subject the bmwcarclub seems to attract like minded folk.how about a spanners meet?
  8. Smacked the roof it did, bent the bonnet into a perfect fit over the screen and roof.managed to sit down today and have a good poke around.been lucky it seems the damage is as follows. Bonnet(£100 ish 2nd hand),roof skin £71 plus vat as my local dealer hand one on the shelf, plus a screen.so I guess 500-600 quids worth.guess the old girl isnt dead yet.photos on tuesday
  9. CIP updates i cannot help with, Knock senor? well it is abit odd for it to pack up at such a young age, must admit from experiance they either work or they dont, engine works fine or runs like a bag of cr** if at all, does the car run ok?
  10. Has anyone been watching the USA version, to start with it was like USA cars, crap. BUT its MUCH MUCH better, and in my eyes a e30 325"E" makes an excellent monster truck!
  11. WELL! I would like to invite you all to the funeral of my faithful slag, 12:30am at about motor legal speed limit on the M6 3 hours into my trip the bonnet took flight,, flipped up smashed the screen and has made the adlantic in a force 10 gale look smooth!, bit wobbley to say the least, oh yes bonnet is fooked Think this is the end i fear!
  12. Dabsy is right again, if it is currently working LEAVE IT ALONE,when it breaks you will know what the fault is,
  13. Welcome along
  14. From our friends at Alpina
  15. Gav very true, and no your insurance is not invalid if your speeding, The only people who wouldn’t like this being fitted are the people who cost everyone money, the honest folk wouldn’t really mind. And yes if you hit the brakes for no good cause, I.E you were speeding and you had just noticed it so hit the brakes without doing your mirror checks to ensure your actions were safe(as per the driving test) then yes the 3rd party could claim it is your fault. The only person who controls your speed is you, we all know the law, We have all seen hikes in the recent months, Mostly down to PPI claims, However if I said on average your insurance goes up 19% PA because of younger drivers, why should YOU pay for THEM? I personally like this Tachograph idea it is far more sensible than the “limit the engine” rubbish as a 1.1 saxo can still crash into a wall at 70-just like a BMW can
  16. Every year the E39 goes to Rome for the Mille Miglia, However it drives on the wrong side of the road legally at least twice a month
  17. It doesn’t really affect me as my car is paid for, and insurance on the IOM is peanuts. However young driver insurance comes up time and time again, and as I work in this industry I find some of the ideasi hear ……….well amusing to say the least. However here’s a suggestion that has been made which I am keen to hear your thoughts on. Any driver below the age of 21 to have Tachograph fitted to their vehicle to monitor their driving behavior. In LGV`s this works perfectly, in event of an accident a record of speed etc would be easily accessible which would be of HUGE benefit to the insurer and the third party to resolve claims much quicker. As it would be a fully fledged tachograph with digi card it could be used in a court of law unlike the black box system currently being tried. Well?
  18. Early m52 engines did have this problem as that’s what killed the 2.5 lump in my e39 when it was 3 months old, however BMW knew a problem was there and was pretty quick to recall!not many iffy engines are left Dabsy Breather system is a good shout!
  19. With Dabsy on this one, Also the colour doesn’t look like a AZ
  20. Welcome along
  21. I very very much doubt it due to how old it is, but does yours have a Nikasil engine fitted? If it aint leaking it, its burning it
  22. Welcome along, nice to see another 5 owner on here
  23. The biggest improvement is the MPG, mines a 523i which had a 528 engine installed when it was a few months old. I would welcome people to sit in the car and do the maths to support this, but on a good run it will return 39mpg on paper(about 48mpg on the trip), then on the rollers when they mapped it they said it was producing 223bhp which I took with a pinch of salt however I had it on the rollers a year later and it produced 217BHP(the guy who was doing the reading had no interest in upping the figure), personally it’s the MPG which is the biggest improvement!! Cost was about £300 quid although they were doing other things to the car at the time to get it through the emissions. I do also have a convert M50 manifold to fit the car but I have never quite got around to fitting this, I have heard the 2.8 m52 will touch 250bhp. Whatever the person who thinks that is smoking some good stuff!
  24. I know you lot are talking sense, I am not really one for new cars, I brought the 523 just before I turned 18 and I have lost a SCARY amount of money on it, and to be fair, I would prefer to pay my mortgage of rather than buy a new car. Dabsy is sadly correct, I am in the lucky position where my petrol gets paid by work however I fear if I present the fuel bills for 30,000 miles from an M5 I fear I may be called into the office for the mother of all shouting at. However a nice manual 540i sport maybe worth a look, or just a 530I sport which I now would make more sense I dread the day I am given a diesel card instead of a receipt book! Id be stuffed then and I would have to join Gavs crew of black smokers
  25. Have you got a multi meter? If so charge the battery over night. Start the car up and put your multi meter on + and – and see if you are getting 13v+, any less than that and you have a charging problem. Does it run and drive 100% once jump started? If so and it is charging the battery it could be a battery drain, test to see if it is charging then come back to me
