  1. Hi just wanted to add, why is it I cannot find a SINGLE auto gearbox 'specialist' who has any idea what my problem is, I would of thought that someone would have heard of this problem rather than coming out with such crap as a rusty selector rod sticking in the casing or selector absorbing oil ,not even ZF themselves have any ideas, please can anyone come up with any sensible ideas/theories, yelgdip
  2. Hi I have to admit to not having any real knowledge of this model, however i can give you some insights gained from years of BMW ownership. yes i can well beleive that the 4.4 is as good on fuel because one obvious advantage the v8 has over the 6 is in torque and this accelerate all that kerbweight with a lot less effort. It may be a little thirstier around urban but on the duallies /motorway this balances out. Certainly my 750 v12 was no worse overall than the 730/6 that followed it. Also the v8 will tend to come with more kit as standard and if you can find a v8 with a decent LPG conversion you could get diesel levels of economy. One area of not necessarily weakness but nevertheless worth looking at is the condition of the air suspension bags and compressor pump system, any work done on this showing in the S/H would be a good thing. Mileage on BMW's is not necessarily a problem, S/H is king here and just remember the old addage, by the best you can afford and do not be afraid to invest in an inspection as its almost certain they will find something that will allow you to get the cost of it back off the price. hope this helps a bit yelgdip
  3. on my 93 touring it had a lot of wires for fittings i did not have so they might be all the same basic loom with just specific differences for v8's to do with engine/gearbox
  4. the best is Richard at Latine auto's in Christchurch Dorset, he has a customer who drives from Scotland for his work, i use him myself and he is better than excellent, honestly call 01202 477333 and talk to Christine they can help you with ANY model you have, yelgdip
  5. Hi I cannot speak specifically for the E39 but I did this on a 93 530 v8 touring, the wires are under the mat, you just plug in and go the seats should bolt straight in no problems, the only thing you might need to do is add or upgrade a fuse to cover the extra load on a multiple circuit, hope this helps yelgdip
  6. Don't suppose you want an M5 LSD for your toy, got a 3.64 LSD for £300 plus postage or you can collect from Bournemouth
  7. Not wanting to sound like a know it all or BM geek but my e34 had that AGS system too (pre e38). Also the Nikasil problem was with the M60 3 and 4 litre engines, but it is not that serious an issue if you manage it properly. Always use decent fuel, change oil regularly and wait for car to get out of blue on coolant guage before hoofing it. Mine has 150k on it compression is as good as new spec and emissions are CO2 0.0% +/-0.1 and HC<100. I do admit they can get bad but only if by poor maintainance you let it. Cheers good listing on functions of AGS though.
  8. Hi Hope someone on here can help me with a problem with my E34 540i. In Jan 2012 I replaced my 5hp30 gearbox (149k) with a matched replacement (101k, £699) which I know was good cos I drove the donor car 200 miles home to part it out with NO problems. At the same time I replaced filter with BMW genuine replacement and full refill with ATF exceeding lifetime 5 specification, the car now drives beautifully except for this problem. When I drive the car it changes perfectly apart from when the box gets up to temperature the gear selector seizes in 'D' and will not move unless I give it about two hours. Now I have spoken to my local 'stealer', BMW GB, ZF both in UK and Germany as well as three auto gearbox 'specialists' all of whom gave me different answers except from telling me to spend £3k+ putting a new gearbox in as mine is shot, apparently. The answers has ranged from wrong fluid (though i am using ATF better than BMW recommend themselves) to my manual selector valve is absorbing the oil and swelling up when hot and seizing in the valve body! After exhaustive personal research I think its that I need to get my EGS 'wear ' adaptions reset as this compensates for gearbox age and mileage by adjusting the internal pressures to keep the changes smooth and my old box was 149k old and was shot (as i stripped it after to find out, yeuch!!) and the new has only done 101k and was perfect (the fluid that came out was still gold and the magnet clean. So I think my EGS is still operating the box as if its the old and shot one thus overpressurizing the valve body/ gearbox and thus causing the manual selector to lock and be imovable until pressure bleeds down as box cools. The only real evidence i have of this is the numerous stories of others who have changed these boxes only for them to blow a reverse ball valve or seals/ clutch pack. No one i have spoken to will either entertain my theory or are willing to do my EGS hard reset except for the 'stealers' who will do it for £150+ 1 hr labour+ VAT about £300 all in to plug in a laptop and press the reset button, I think not:( So if anyone has had this problem/ knows of someone who has and/or knows how to rectify it, please post here or link me to someone who can help me as my car is sat on my drive looking miserable and neglected and i miss it ("£%*&^$$ micra :) ) cheers in advance yelgdip 1996 e34 540i m5 suspension/brakes/trim and LSD in Sorrento Blue
  9. anybody out there know anyone looking for a 210 big case 3.64 M5 LSD I am looking for £395.00 or any e34 touring or e32 750iL bits before I weigh them in.
  10. Hi yeah I own an e34 or two (or three) , I have one 530 v8 touring which is breaking, a 1993 540i in red with almost mint paint and interior with a gearbox issue and my every day 540i built 12/95 and registered 02/96. I have just fitted a replacement gearbox and found it had a 3.15 LSD in it which just needed some fresh oil to get it working again and its in sorrento blue, has anyone seen another one in this colour cos i will be damned if I have LOL. I also have a 635 resto project and a early 750iL I am breaking, i am in Dorset just north of Poole.
