Koni Yellow Sport Suspension Bmw Z3 1.8 and 1.9 including m-tech 1994-2003 koni sport suspension kit Excellent condition (a wipe over with a rag and they could be refitted) only used for 6 months before I decided to change car. Koni yellow shock absorbers, adjustable for firmness of ride front and rear. The softest setting is a little firmer than standard shocks, ranging through to race car stiff on full hard (trust me you will not need full hard) Front adjustable on the car adjusters supplied with the kit, rear can be adjusted by undoing 4 bolts, very simple. H&R lowering springs matched set to the shock absorbers, lowers the car 30mm all round. Cost me over £550 (I have receipt) from larkspeed. Great kit, I cannot recommend it highly enough, I will be getting another for my next car! Driving the car without the kit on displays just how versatile the set up is to match your desired ride. These are very heavy to post, so its either arrange your own courier or collect them in person. Any questions please feel free to ask £225 Regards,Rhys

Thanks guys you two have given me food for thought. It brakes in a straight line Flat profile? Can you explain? Sorry I'm being thick. They are nankang ns2's all round Shocks and spring are brand new koni and h&r I am going to take the rear apart on the weekend and re build just to make sure Regards Rhys

Sorry, I forgot to say, yes the car has been re tracked too. Regards Rhys

Gents, I noticed the Z3 was pulling to the left a bit so have already investigated/completed the following: New Control Arms c/w bushes and ball joints (both sides) New Outter Track Rod Ends (both sides) Checked tyre pressures Checked Power Steering Fluid Level Check alloys for buckles (swapped back for front etc) This hasn't cured the issue, although the steering does now seem more responsive, so i am at a loss to what it now may be? I recently changed the rear shock mounts which is around about the time i noticed the left hand pull, could i have done something here that has caused it to wander to the left? I have track dayed the car and the circuit was predominantly left hand corners, could it be uneven tyre wear? Are the inner track rod ends something that could cause this? Any advise or suggestions appreciated as its making me lose confidence in the car especially when your 100 plus on a track. Regards, Rhys

Welcome along. My wife has a gen 2 cooper s, and as you say it's like a go kart for insane people. I have a z3 for the sun and the track, and both put an awesome smile on your face! Regards Rhys

Nothing required to the ECU mate, it only effects the air flow very slightly which the ecu will adjust itself for, but it does sound good. When you get to the stage i have, i.e. air filter, exhaust, sports cat, then the car would probably benefit from a bit of a remap to make the most of the performance parts, but it doesnt effect normal driving conditions of the car at all.

Welcome along, I too have a Z3 1.9, 1999 model Tons of silly things you can do to them, and they are reasonably handy on the track (see my sig) Regards, Rhys

Thanks Gav, I have now ordered the Meyle HD control arms for both sides (believe these come with the ball joints etc) and also x2 new track rod ends. Anything else i may need? p.s the rear bushes have just been changed anyway
-
Thanks both. JD you may indeed be correct, I think it will be just a process of elimination tbh. Also, the control arms appear to be the originals!!! So I think they are probably due a change lol

Gents, My 1.9 Z3 has been pulling to the left. The garage checked it and replaced the rear bushes on both front arms. This has made the steering tighter, but not cured the pull to the left. The tracking has been checked and the wheels swapped over to check for buckled alloys etc, but the problem still exists. As a last resort, me and the garage have decided that it could be ball joint or other bushes that have play in them, but not sufficient enough yet to see it visually, and so decided it may be worth changing the complete control arm? This doesn't cause me too much concern as i know they are a weak point on most 3 series variants and would likely go at some point anyway. I intend to replace with Meyle HD parts (as i did on the back shock mounts) but should i replace both front control arms at the same time, i.e. as you would when changing springs?? Your thoughts appreciated, Regards, Rhys

Car came back, new timing chain tensioners, no issue found with the clutch, so hopefully all is good....for now
-
Thanks guys, It's in with mini on weds so they can check out the clutch and flywheel issues they were known for as the clutch is a little bit juddery on initial pull away. No slip thru the gears though. Also getting them to check the timing chain, but other than that its actually pretty good. Very quick little beasty! Regards Rhys

Thanks JD Will have a proper look over it when it's on the drive

Gents, Just purchased a 59' plate cooper S (turbo version) for the wife. Collecting it on weds. I know there are good and bad things said about the Mini, but in all honesty, what am i looking out for straight away when i get to have a good rummage over it? It has the mini service pack until 2015 so that's something, and i have already contacted mini to look and see if it has had the water pump recall done, but if anyone could offer advice on anything else to look out for i would be grateful. Regards, Rhys

I use the K&N 57i kit on my 1.9 Z3 with good effect. I have also in the past used the BMC carbon dynamic airbox. Out of the two, if your budget will allow the BMC is a quality bit of equipment, but unfortunately on the 1.9 its too big to fit in the gap i have without moving things around under the bonnet. This may be different on the 2.8 though Regards, Rhys

Usually to open the top storage shelf...assuming you dont have the speaker in there

As above i bought an Alpine CDE-133BT for my Z3, easy to fit and very good quality

Mixed reviews on these, especially in the wet, but I use nankang ns2's on my z3, 205/50/16's and even on the track they are pretty good. £55 a tyres at my nearest stockist, and give good, quiet, general all round comfort. May be worth a look?

Hi Lucy, I found my 1.9 a little soft when giving it beans. It leans a little more than i thought it would. To give an idea, i drive a 320d Msport 57' plate as my works car, and i find the 320 has a firmer suspension than the Z3 which surprised me as i thought the sports car would be harder. This is why i have upgraded to a full koni sports adjustable shock absorbers front and back with H&R springs, i can now set how hard a ride i want it to be. It is a fun car, and great without doing much to it. I wouldnt say that it needed anything done in particular, it was just my personal preferences as i do some track days in the car too so wanted to make sure it was up to it. I also put Brembo max discs and sport pads on the front and M-Tech grooved discs and sport pads on the back. I found this and changing to Dot 5.1 brake fluid made a big difference to making the car stop. I have done a full 20 mins session on a track and not had the brakes fade at all, so seems to be doing its job. Recently i have put a K&N 57i induction kit and a Longlife cat back exhaust on the car, and this has given a better noise on acceleration as well as a few extra bhp. As for insurance, i have declared all the mods to the car and pay around £800 a year (im 26, no points etc) I could probably get this lower by going to a specialist broker, but i swapped from one car to another mid way through a policy, so just stayed with it for this year. I would expect your 2.8 to be a little more depending on your age, points, crashes etc. Summing up, as with most BMW's mine has to date been bomb proof, and i cant fault anything on it. Any changes have been because i wanted to, not because i had to. Servicing is a little dearer depending where you go, and tyres (225/50/16 on mine) are about £60 each ( i use Nankang NS2 sports) I was lucky and found a T reg 99' car with only 44k on the clock (older guy had owned it) and really didnt pay a huge amount for it. There are bargains out there, but as with all second hand cars, just buy the best you can sensibly afford with a good history and as low miles as you can. Anything i haven't covered, give me a shout. Rhys

Thank you. It appeared that the wheels themselves had an inherent fault, and were sent back. Have just picked up some BBS style 42's from a gent in Northants, they need a bit of a clean, but will be going on soon.

Thanks mate, not come across them before will have a look at their site now

Hi Lucy, I am one of the above mentioned Z3'ers. What would you like to know?? Daz H above is right in part, 6 cyl's are more powerful, but i have quite a bit of fun in my M44 1.9 including track days as well as just wombling around when the sun is out, so it depends what you want to do with it? I have done quite a bit to mine to make it more fun, but as with most things the sky is the limit when you are fiddling. Regards, Rhys

Thanks, it was driving me bonkers
