Morning Mobeen Even with BMW's early i-bus system components that communicate with each other or allowed pass through signals to reach others could be swapped. However they didn't always operate as they should or allow their full operation. They needed not programming but registering to the cars chassis to allow full functionality. I would start by checking all body earth points, BMW love multiple earth points and earth switching so make sure they are good being parked up could have allowed corrosion to start, it wont take much. Use www.realoem.com to check if any enabling codes are needed for the audio/nav system. The steering angle sensor normally calibrates itself if the car is driven forward while going lock to lock What diagnostic system are you using Dave

Gear maybe engaged without breaking
Greydog replied to Taysir Danhash's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Taysir Welcome to the Forum As your "mechanic" had drained the transmission and removed the sump and filter to change solenoids he then put back using old contaminated Fluid and possibly/probably a used contaminated filter ????? it just doesn't make sense. Find another transmission specialist (preferably ZF) and get the trans diagnosed and the fluid flushed and changed Good Luck Dave -
Tyre sizes and PSI pressures for my 08 plate 635d Auto
Greydog replied to ARoosterinaRoadster's topic in BMW 6 Series Forum
Hi John Original Equipment when the car was new I believe would have been Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 Run Flats Fronts 245x40xR19 94W Rears 275x35xR19 96W Many have ended up with non run flat tyres either because people didn't like the slightly harsher ride or more often availability when tyre change time came around. Good call on the locking wheel nuts there are enough light fingered little !Removed!'s around don't make life easy for them Dave -

Tyre sizes and PSI pressures for my 08 plate 635d Auto
Greydog replied to ARoosterinaRoadster's topic in BMW 6 Series Forum
Morning John Tyre sizes are correct for 19" staggered set up, as the tyre makes are different I guess the rears have been changed due to the fact they have worn quicker 😁 (enthusiastic driving) Tyre pressures are normally in the manual and should be 35psi all round IIRC ENJOY it Dave -
Morning George Sorry don't recognise it Where does it come from ? If it comes from the scuttle area it could be part of the scuttle and roof drain system. Have a look at www.realoem.com it may give some clues? Dave

Morning Mobeen Battery may be new but is it fully charged ? Is the alternator output correct and charging the battery You have replaced a large number of parts so start there 1. Were they correct for your model (use a Vin decoder to get the original build sheet) and www.realoem.com for part numbers 2. Were they coded in to the cars system or just swapped? 3. If the replaced items are correct and coded correctly then check all earth points, BMW are fond of using body earth points with multiple connections. They are also fond of using earth switching so any poor connections can cause havoc. Remember that some functions need an enabling code from BMW (I know they just don't like us tinkering with "their cars" that they conveniently forget we have paid for) Good Luck Dave

Hi Stuart Great result I believe there is like a double skin effect so yes moisture/water can still be present trapped between the two. That is why the silica gel trick works so well it helps absorb the hidden moisture just make sure you can get them out and change them a few times. Dave

New Key Programming Correct or re-programming a Key that has had a new battery fitted To buy a new key go to your BMW Dealer they will need the Vin and for some sight of the Registration in your name Beware of cheap keys online Dave
-
Hi Dave Welcome to the Forum Try this First, put your BMW key in the ignition, rapidly turning it to position 1. Quickly do this 5 times in a row. Then, take your key out of the ignition. Press the BMW logo on your BMW key fob 3 times while holding down the unlock button. Let go of the unlock button after the third time you’ve pressed the BMW Logo Good Luck Dave

OK can you not raise the car and through the engine bay pull the bonnet release cable, once you have access to the engine bay you should be able to change the battery and power the door locks The only car I have had real problems with had no battery fitted at all Good Luck

INPA / ISTA / Coding help - How and what to get?
Greydog replied to 4by4's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Mobeen Copies of INPA/ISTA are mainly pirate so not knowingly sold by members So you will need to search the internet if buying I would make sure the Software and Cable are together also be aware that some versions will not work on a 64bit system (mine runs on an old Windows 7 32bit system) Good Luck Dave -
Hey BMW and Windows 2024 X1
Greydog replied to Abjwsm's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Alan I would think if it is possible it needs activation in the Operating system However I have to ask "Why" all my BMW's have had voice activation to some degree but I have never used it I tried on the early X5 then it was Radio and Phone only and to say the least it was not good !! A request like "phone home" would be answered with something unrelated like Radio 4 selected 🤣 So I have never bothered since all the buttons work and so do my fingers 😅😂 Dave -
E63 635d Auto - Transmission service.
Greydog replied to ARoosterinaRoadster's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning John Not just the marques you name the poor old gearbox and Diffs are probably the most abused parts of any car. With most Garages Oil and Filters and a quick visual inspection is seen as a service (time is money) ZF Service intervals are 60k to 100k Kilometres (about 60k miles) So "sealed for life" for most Marques meant "End of Warranty Responsibility" My X5 E53 4.6is was serviced by ZF the cost was £630 (8 years ago) but they pulled the Mechatronic unit serviced it and fitted new seals flushed the Torque converter the put it all back. Even though my box was smooth it felt better after service. My X5 E70 I have doe myself using genuine ZF parts cost was £220 Fluid Filter Sump Seal and Bolts (Euro Car Parts last year) I also changed fluid in both Diffs and Transfer Case Check Google for ZF specialists or a ZF service centre for costs if your not into DIY Dave Tip make sure you can undo the fill plug before draining the fluid I had to help a friend who had drained his box then couldn't undo the Fill plug and damaged it -
Hi Stuart As Stu has said Welcome Clean the lights through the bulb holder space. Use a piece of sponge on the end of wire then cloth to dry out the condensation use a hair dryer or heat gun to make sure then a small bag of Silica Gel should keep things clear. Paul also posted a fix that may help Test and check the speaker connections as Stu says From memory the seat bolster has a hoop type support may be it is broken away at one end ? Never come across it but always possible Most important ENJOY your beemer Dave
-
Great find Paul Hope its a success Dave

Hi Stu The only bit left is the air gap sensor to reluctor ring. Try measuring the air gap on one of the other wheels make sure the mounting area is absolutely clean and the sensor fully seated a small difference can make all the difference The X5 can still send you Bonkers Good Luck Dave

Morning Gary Welcome to the Forum That looks very smooth and slick congratulations Dave
-
Morning Oliver Welcome to the Forum As far as I am aware they should be Tilt and Slide. There were some well documented incidence of them failing over the years and they can be a pain to fix from what I have read. Never done one personally, that may explain your specialists reaction. You could use a Vin Decoder to get the original build sheet the item to look for is S402A electric powered roof Dave

Hello Zat Welcome to the Forum Is your Warranty/Protection plan with BMW or an Aftermarket Company ? If it is an After market Warranty then they will just require proof of service to support the Warranty. There is a register of BMW Specialist's in the UK Google will help generally their Labour rates are around half that of BMW Dealers but they do have the knowledge and equipment to carry out all service and repairs needed Experience tells me most Service our selves statements mean Oil and Filter as the cars iDrive system records service intervals against time/distance it probably hasn't been touched. Even Dealers tend to record the service electronically and on the iDrive these days so you may have to ask for the service book to be stamped 😁 Progress Personally I have never trusted Extended service intervals and always carry out a full service annually Good Luck with finding a Specialist and enjoy your new car Dave

Hi John In the late 70's through the 80's we had a business and by buying some Company cars and Leasing others we were able to indulge ourselves I had a couple of Cosworth's the last being a Cosworth Sapphire which I didn't have long before it was stolen (they were top of the list in those days) That was a Lease car and when they offered a replacement our insurers gave a quote that was almost the cost of the car !!!! They offered me the Carlton (Chassis 32) instead and the insurers accepted it (I will never figure that out) Had a few Volvo's all estates my wife loved them for pulling the Horse trailer and plenty of room in the back for children and dogs. Started with 760's then 960 then the 850 T5 and 850R MK1 V70 T5 x4 then V70 T5 AWD and T6. All the Volvo's were Auto Then in 2000 my wife suffered shoulder damage and found the Volvo's heavy to park we found the Subaru Outback to be super light on steering so that is where she has stayed I brought the first X5 not long after to pull the Horses. A wife and daughter with horses I sometimes thought divorce was a plan 🤣🤣 Children all grown up and away from home so now we just have more Horses and Dogs (I don't ride just pay) 😂

Then you need the same box or you will need the skills and equipment to re program the gearbox ECU so it can communicate with the Engine DDE and several other of the cars ECU's The box that is in there has the fluid level been checked ? If a bump causes disconnect I would also check the loom Take a look at www.realoem.com it is an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of the Vin into the search box it will call up your Model. Then search the gearbox section, if you double click the part number (in Blue) it will bring up a list of other models the box was used in, if nothing their then choice is limited I am afraid Dave
-
Morning Mike Welcome to the Forum You could try disconnecting the Battery (Neg lead first) for about 30 mins (a Dealer trick) if that doesn't reset things then a Diagnostic session may be the only way Good Luck Dave

Morning Veigar Welcome to the Forum The box in your car should be 5 speed ZF A5S440Z it may be cheaper to service/repair the box than look for a replacement. When was the box last serviced? ZF advise service every 60 to 100k (kilometres) If you were thinking of an upgrade there is a lot of work including ECU matching Good Luck Dave
