Morning Men Welcome Jeff The Sensor are wired like "Fairy Lights" in series if one fails none work !! The system is simple but can be a pain to diagnose 1. Do you have front and rear sensors or just rear? 2. In the Boot between the battery and the rear of the spare wheel well is the control unit. on the top are 3 plug positions. (1) front sensors (2) rear sensors (3) tow pack (disconnects the rear sensors if the trailer electrics are plugged in) If you don't have diagnostics then sensors will click if working so "ear close to sensor" with reverse selected ignition on (don't leave it on to long or dead battery) Change the non-clicking sensors. If no sensors click check the wiring for breaks if no breaks look at the controller if water has got into the battery area it can suffer water damage. Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will bring up your model then get the part numbers you need. Search the well known Auction sites for replacement parts with the correct part numbers. Providing the wiring is OK the rest is plug and play The BMW fail safe is a "Thud" when your to close 😁 Good Luck Dave

Morning Edgar I am not sure but I don't think Bulb failure is included under the warranty. Normally they would be seen as a service item like Brake Pads, washer fluid, tyres, etc.I would check the lamps myself just to be sure of the issue. Your Handbook should show you how If you have the LED headlamps? As they are (a) expensive and (b) are supposed to have a very long service life. So I am uncertain whether they are covered.by your Warranty check it, Warranty is normally parts and labour in case of failure mechanical/electrical items. If they are covered then put pressure on the Dealer. If you haven't already write (Email) to the Dealer explain the sequence of events Dealer carries out fault repair, lamp warning appears followed by lamp failure, ask why that would happen? Dave

Morning Edgar First has there been any work done on the car recently? Has anyone altered settings in the in the onboard computer? Has anyone checked the lamps and connections, are they Halogen or Adaptive LED? If they are Halogen the bulbs may simply have failed. I would not expect LED lamps to fail at 3 years, the lights would have to be on 24/7 for the service life to be reached. Have you spoken to the BMW Dealer? Dave

Welcome Edgar Not sure what we are looking at here ?? It looks as though DRL is on, Halo's are on, Dipped Beam is on ? So is it main beam that is your issue (the inner lamp) if that doesn't work when main beam is selected then my first place to check would be the lamp (bulb) Is it just one side? Or both ? Are you getting Bulb Failure warnings at start up? Dave

Hi Joe Mine had a full Dealer service history and hadn't been touched !! So don't hold your breath, had mine serviced by ZF not expensive as they serviced the valve body as well. Check the connection plug body the seal can leak, Dave

Morning Joe Welcome to the Forum They call it the "lurch" The poor old gearbox (manual and Auto) is often overlooked when service comes around BMW in their wisdom claimed "sealed for life" what they really meant was "life" was the end of their Warranty period?? Hey ho they are not alone.many other manufacturers are the same ZF who make your box recommend service every 60 to 80k/kilometers it is a DIY proposition or your local Independent (just make sure they use ZF longlife fluid) or as I do a ZF auto transmission specialist. Cost is similar to an oil service plus the ZF specialist will have any software upgrades. So check the history to see if the box has ever had a service and get it done (or DIY) Enjoy your X5 Dave

Morning Dan In terms of understanding your car, having the right tools and diagnostic equipment obviously the Main Dealer will always be ahead of an Independent Garage, however there is a Register of BMW Specialists across the UK that may be worth exploring as well many have dealer level equipment all are ex BMW tech's The big difference will be in cost, the Main Dealer will have much higher overheads which of course leads to higher hourly rates my local Main Dealer is just over £200/phr my local BMW Specialist £70/phr my local Independent Garage £60/phr neither have large show rooms to support or high numbers of staff though. If you have a good deal with your local Main Dealer use it while it's competitive I have in the past also used the Indy costs as a stick to beat them with. For me my BMW Specialist wins hands down all ways friendly always helpful and willing to share knowledge and cost is reasonable. Good Luck enjoy your BMW Dave

Morning Lauren Private or Garage sale ? If a garage tell them to fix it as you just brought it. If private you are pretty much on your own I am afraid. Reversing lamps and rear wiper are in the tailgate/bootlid so obvious place to start is the fuses then the bulbs don't forget the bulb holders as they can corrode and may need cleaning. With a multimeter check that there is power to the wiper motor connector and the lamps, if there is power then check the motor for continuity. No power check the loom where it goes from boot lid to body they can suffer breaks. Parking sensors are in the rear bumper (also front bumper if you have front/rear system) if one sensor fails the system doesn't work. You can listen (ear close to) each sensor if it clicks its OK if not it needs changing, if none click check the control unit. A diagnostic scan will help you a great deal just make sure it is done by someone who has a BMW specific diagnostic program as it will pinpoint issues.more accurately. Good Luck Dave

Hi Pete There have been numerous posts on many Forums over the years about this "Driver Aid" but unfortunately BMW's clever brigade appear to have taken a system which has been around for years overly complicate it. Luckily my X5 is of a vintage that doesn't have it. My AMG's had Hill Hold so does my Wife's Subaru Outback both only work to stop the car rolling back on a slope. What BMW seem to have achieved is a "Drive Off Assistant" that does just the opposite? Progress in traffic must keep you on your toes. I still think there must be some sort of adjustment that will make easier to live with have you checked www.newtis.info all the service bullitins should be available so you can see if there were any recalls or upgrades Dave

Hi Pete Welcome to the Forum I assume you mean the "Hill Hold" function is sticking I am not aware of a way to turn it off I am afraid. It is obviously not working correctly so I would either fix it yourself or get it sorted at a BMW specialist. Morning Stu I wonder if the after market headlamp units are the cause? Headlamp units from any E53 up to 2003 will fit, the facelift ones 2004 on (for simplicity) with clear indicators wont fit. Also check out companies like Cree for HID conversions to the standard light units they are well known been around for years and as far as I know their kits are complete so no faffing around. Best solution would be OEM HID lamps one of the specialist breakers would be my first call plus a polishing/lens cleaning kit to make them pritine before fitting. Or you could drive really slowly listening to Elton, the driving really slowly is so you don't run over your Guide Dog !! 🤣 Dave

Morning Andrew Okay that narrows it a little, at least it would seem there are no mechanical issues. It could be a sensor or the gearbox controller. The controller receives signals to decide on which gear to select and when. Signals tell it about road speed, engine temp, engine revs and its own oil temperature. I have read that the plug connector and its housing can cause issues. Take a look at www.newtis.info it is a BMW Technical Information site BMW Dealers use the same information for service and repair information. Put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will bring up your model Good Luck Dave

Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum I haven't heard of this one before, You need a BMW specific Diagnostic Program, Generic system will only see the DDE and not the many other inter linked control systems. Has the Gearbox selected the gear you want while the display is moving between gears? When driving are the gear changes smooth and normal ? Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins to see if it re-sets it's self (disconnect Neg first) worth a try as it is free. If the reset doesn't work then there are a number of things that could be the cause such as Low transmission fluid, it could be the gear selector switch, or the EWS gearbox control. The poor old gearbox is often completely ignored when a car is serviced yet repair or replacement is as expensive as an engine? You don't say how many miles the car has covered (i would guess 100k +) as an example with my x5 ZF advise service every 60 to 100,000 km about 60,000 miles. Start with a reset then a good code read by someone with a specific program Dave

Morning Gemma Are you sure that what you see in the mirrors are not the down lights (Puddle Lights) my neighbour works for BMW and tells me he was not aware of a side camera system for the X1 front and rear but not side? There are manouvering sensors that can be fitted but they are part of the ultra sonic system. Do you have Rear view camera and Front view cameras fitted? If not it could be a costly upgrade as control computer,, cameras, maybe loom and fitting plus coding to the car will be needed. Dave

Morning Daniel Not good news !! A code read by someone with BMW specif diagnostics may reveal more detail. I have read of these electric pumps failing at low mileages (not what you want to hear) but check what supplier guarantee/warranty was on the part fitted.Borg Beck are a "known name" supplier it may be worth contacting them (or getting your mechanic to) to see if they will give any support? Have you checked www.realoem.com to ensure the part fitted is the correct equivalent ? it will also give you a feel for the OEM price though in US$ as it is an American site You could also check www.newtis.info a BMW Technical site used by BMW Dealers for repair, replacement and service information. With both sites put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box and it will bring up your model. Not tight as we age we become "careful" One thought that may be worth exploring is BMW E53 and Range Rover L322 models shared a whole load of technology across the ranges As many more Range Rovers came with Heated Wheels it may be worth a check Dave

Morning Tony I believe screen clearance is an "override" setting where as the heater/climate control is an onboard memory function. So when the key is removed it reverts to climate control preferences. Dave
