Morning tunebyear Welcome to the Forum A scanner will certainly help you not just with the suspension. Make sure it is a BMW specific scanner or you will only see generic codes nothing specific your car. Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model. This site is a BMW parts list with exploded drawings so you can see where stuff fits. Also look at www.newtis.info a BMW Technical Information site the same information that Dealers use which again should help. Enjoy your new educational toy Dave

Morning Martin There are filters at the pumps pickup in the reservoir they become clogged with a jelly like residue caused by certain windscreen washer mixes. The washer filters are easy to clean just look at www.realoem.com check out the washer system drawing they will help in knowing where to look and what to do. With my X5 there are 3 pumps so 3 filters, windscreen, rear screen and high pressure headlamp/windscreen. Once a year I take the wash reservoir out remove the pumps and clean the filters. Hope this helps Dave

116d E81 116d 2009. Strange noise from engine
Greydog replied to DenaM's topic in BMW 1 Series Forum
Morning Denis Welcome to the Forum We need to hear the noise? It could be so many things loose heat shield or engine cover, loose exhaust mount or (we hope not) something mechanical. Fingers crossed it's simple Dave -
Morning Tim Seems odd, I have to say I haven't noticed if they are on or off when cars pass me? Mine are HID dip conventional mains. Have you checked the hand book to see how they operate? Have you got blown bulbs or warnings? Are the main beam lamps LED? Maybe they can be turned on via the Software? Not much of an answer just more questions sorry Dave

Morning Geoff Welcome to the Forum E53 speakers are flaky I am afraid the problem could be the speaker or the wiring the only way is whip the door card off and check the speaker. Either by testing or by a known working one, take care when removing the inner membrane that you dont tear it if you do make sure you repair it they are known source of leaks. The door handle LED (interior is often that it has been dislodged by someone who missed it when putting the door card back Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model, then search the sections for what you need. There are useful small exploded drawings so you can see where stuff goes (or is meant to) Also www.newtis.info this is a BMW technical information site BMW dealers use the same information. ENJOY Dave

Morning Luke Welcome to the Forum I will try to answer your points in reverse order 1. On a 5 year old car with a solid history I wouldn't foresee any serious issues. The engine is one of the worlds great engines, the tried and tested drive train is like wise solid but both need proper servicing. All modern cars are reliant on complicated electronics so my advice is get a good BMW specific code reader you will be amazed at what you can achieve. 2. When you say owners manual do you mean the book pack which comes with the car? Or a workshop manual? If it is the Book Pack I would try Ebay or similar. Web sites that will help are www.realoem.com This is an online Parts list for all BMW models just put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box and it will bring up your model. Invaluable when buying parts. www.newtis.info this is a BMW online Technical information site if you wish to do DIY then this is a great help. As mentioned above a BMW specific code reader is essential for DIY plus you can code the mirrors etc (normally tick box) if they are fitted which a Dealer will charge ££££ to do Good luck enjoy your car Dave

Morning Danny Take a look at www.newtis.info It is a BMW Technical Information site. Check the wiring diagram's for your model, I would check the speaker cables for continuity in case one or more have broken the flex part at the door loom is a possibility. Don't ignore the speakers they were a fail point on X5's Dave
-
Hi Adam Not sure about the 1 series set up but with the X5 there is a solenoid distribution valve on the nearside inner wing in the engine compartment if it sticks or one of the solenoids fails no heat (why always the driver side?) It could be the air distribution flaps sticking or broken I would check www.realoem.com and look at the small exploded drawing see if it can give you some clues Dave

Welcome to the Forum Jan Try the for sale section I am sure you will get some feed back Dave

Talk to your local BMW dealer parts guy/girl if they don't have it they should be able to order it. I brought mine from Cotswold BMW who also gave a discount due to the cars age Take care as my local Dealer wanted to sell the complete assembly Dave
-
Just take a look at www.realoem.com it wont matter which car you look at I think the trim colours are the same
-
How weird is that realoem shows this for mine 29 Actuation unit, trunk lid 1 09/2001 51137004532 $3.00 Hope it helps Dave
-
Hi Bogdan Try www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin number in the search box. Then look at the trim section you will see the colour for all trim parts for your model. I believe it is something like "light Beige" Dave

The other thing to consider is MOT I have read that if the car was fitted with DPF as standard and it is missing automatic fail?? One of my sons runs a Toyota Pickup he has cleaned the EGR once in 5 years and the DPF goes into Regen on its own so personally I don't see the point? Dave

Morning Steve Sadly the rear boot release switches tend to suffer water ingress and deteriorate (well fall to bits) My first repair was to take off the switch and re-solder the connections inside that worked for about 18 months before failing again. I used www.realoem.com to get the part number and searched for a replacement, when I looked there were several used on Ebay but I brought new from BMW they gave a good discount as my E53 is an oldie now. No issues in the last 7 years (tempting fate now) though I have had recently had a couple of spurious bulb failure warnings from the rear, so rear light clusters may be suffering with all the rain. If it stops I will take a look Dave

Morning Steve Good news, just a shame you have had to spend your hard earned so early. Now ENJOY Dave

tailgate wiring break . 330 touring. 2006
Greydog replied to G Rawlins's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning G There is a Register of BMW Specialists just Google to find your nearest one, my specialist in Sussex charges about 1/3rd of the Dealer hourly rate so more economical.to use for jobs like this. Find one near you and talk to them I am sure as this is not an uncommon issue they will have dealt with it before. Normal rules apply 1. always get at least 3 quotes 2. Talk to them and gauge their competence. 3. Check out their reputation Good Luck Dave -
Morning Mark Don't thinks so, but not really clued up with diesel Dave
-
Morning Alex I agree with Stu the fitter at Halford clearly didn't have a clue and was probably using the wrong ISO adapter for your model. With my 4.4 X5 I fitted a Dynavin head unit ( that was a while ago now) check out their website they make some good kit that is plug and play Dave

Tailgate wiring break . 330 touring. 2006
Greydog replied to G Rawlins's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Hi G Welcome to the Forum I have read a lot about this issue over the years not just a BMW problem by the way several Marques have issues as they use PVC insulated cables which become brittle in low temperatures, couple this with everything being as short and tight as possible and broken cables are inevitable. There are repair kits available but if buying one make sure you get a silicon insulated one with multi-cored cable for flexibility and sufficient length. As for carrying out the repair it is within the scope of most competent home mechanics, and certainly easy for an Auto Electrician or good Independent Garage. Good Luck Dave -

Not quite sure where and why your measuring fuel pressure, do you have a starting problem or running problem?? Take a look at www.newtis.info for the information your looking for. The site is a BMW Technical Information site as used by Dealers so all you need should be there. Good Luck Dave
