Hi RizzleKicks Welcome to the forum As with any car History is top of the list, it doesn't matter which model you purchase check the history, check the MOT History also (advisories or fails give a clue to how the car has been maintained) Make sure the engine is cold (I have always been suspicious of why the engine has been run prior to viewing) Check the fluid levels then start the engine while it is warming up climb in and make sure everything works as it should and I mean everything, every button every switch. These are complicated cars and there are no cheap fixes, well not that I have found. Once up to operating temp get out and check under for signs of leaks, all good off for a test drive gear changes should be smooth up and down the box in all modes (Drive Manual Sport) Check tyre condition edge wear can be a sign of suspension bushes on the way, not a disaster but a negotiating point, Tyres for these aren't cheap. Make sure the tyres are correct particuarly if the wheel set is staggered (wider rear) as rolling radius across axel's and front rear need to be in tolerance to avoid transmission wind up and damage. Put the car in reverse and back up on lock any jerking or noises walk away, There are 3 Petrol versions 3.0i, 4.4, 4.8 and the 3.0 Diesel Not much to choose in MPG between the petrol engines as the smaller has to work harder expect around 19 mpg average mixed driving. The diesel is a very different proposition delivering 218 bhp and high 20's low 30's average mpg. The V8 engines are known for their habit of eating the timing chain guides if not maintained meticulously looked after they are great engines with a great sound. The straight six BMW engine in both flavours are as tough as a tough thing. It's a BMW so pretty much everything was an extra at order so heated screens and heated steering wheels are pretty rare. quite a few diesels have pre heaters so you can warm the car with out starting the engine on cold days. If it has the option make sure it works Hope this helps Dave

Morning Martin Have a look at www.newtis.info it is a BMW Technical information site that Dealers and others use you should find some help there. Also try www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box it will bring up your model then look at the door mechanism, the site has small explode drawings which should help with what goes where. Happy New Year Dave

Trouble finding rear wiper motor.......
Greydog replied to DannyZimmer's topic in BMW 1 Series Forum
Morning Daniel Just had a quick look at realoem and it only shows the 7 119569 part number no variants that I can see most odd?? Can you swap the mounting plate from your original motor ? Or is it cast as part of the motor housing ? Good Luck Dave -
+plus one for the gear selector try putting it in Neutral and starting if it happens again

Morning Oneel 22" wheels !!! 😲 Apart from looks I can't think of a single reason for wheels that size. Tyre choice will be restricted so price will probably go up, tyre profile will be less so ride will be harsh at the least so you may need the help of a Chiropractor plus road noise will probably increase. My X5 runs 20" as standard, ride is hard road noise can be intrusive on certain surfaces however the same journey on my 18" winter wheels is very different due to the increased side wall. The car does look better on the 20" wheels in my opinion but rides better on the 18" As they say we pay our money and make our choice. Good Luck Dave

Morning Zander Sorry to here of your issues, for help take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin Number in the search box it will bring up your model. This site is and online Parts List with part numbers so you will know you have the correct parts. Then look at www.newtis.info this is an online Technical Information site, BMW Dealers use this information so you should find what you need there. As an aside if the chain guides have broken up make sure that the sump is clear of any debris when the guides broke up on my M62 they clogged the oil pickup, the oil pump seized and you can guess tha outcome to that !! Good Luck Dave

BMW E91 Panaramoc Roof Rattle
Greydog replied to Browny588's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Luke Welcome to the Forum I would look at www.newtis.info its a BMW online Technical Information site see if there is any information there. I avoid sunroofs after having a problematic one on a Merc in the 90's Happy Christmas Dave -
Morning Steve A diagnostic session may help to point you in the right direction so many modules are linked and so affect the others. Sounds like it could be water ingress somewhere considering the weather lately Have you looked at www.newtis.info it is a BMW technical information site (same information that Dealers use) there may be some clues there, fingers crossed Dave

Morning James Happy Christmas Welcome to the Forum Have you checked the rear light clusters for corrosion, also I would check the earth point for corrosion as well before getting your wallet out. The LCM is normally in the passenger footwell try cleaning all the contacts, get a good electrical;contact cleaner not WD40.Do the earth as well as all the plugs and connectors. You should get the codes read to be sure there is a register of BMW Specialists online so you should find one near you they are normally a lot less expensive than Dealerships. Or you can download INPA or Carly for BMW or similar to lap tops or Smart phones and do it yourself or there may be a member near you who is happy to help. Dave

Morning Martin I take it you have checked fuel pumps are operating, fuel pump relay is OK? When was the Fuel filter last changed? I think you should also have a charge air pressure sensor in the inlet manifold. I don't know what reader your friend used but if it wasn't BMW specific it may not see some of the many control units Dave

Get a copy of BMW 1.4.0 and run a diagnostic check your self you will be able to cycle the ABS and test it yourself steering angle sensor/ABS (they are linked) are both low battery symptoms as well so start there. Good Luck Dave

Operating convertible via key fob (2010 model 3 series)
Greydog replied to Trevor's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
If it opens it it doesn't make sense it won't close it. Bit like opening all the windows on my X5 by holding the open button and closing them if you hold the lock button. Surly yours should work the same way. Google may know more Dave- 3 replies

Morning Vincent Welcome to the Forum My first port of call would be Battery, BMW's are power hungry at start up all the systems are self checking and then a big draw to start. If your battery isnt tip top then trans fail safe is often the first indication. How old is the battery? Is it charging correctly? Nothing causing a power drain? I would fully charge the battery and get it tested. Happy Christmas Dave

Well laid out case Richard and under the circumstances a very reasonable cost Lets hope they see sense and settle before costs are involved Happy Christmas Dave

Morning Shane Welcome to the Forum Are there not choices in settings for Full Screen or Half Screen? As for Navigation if it is asking for the DVD then either the wrong disc is in there or no Disc, check your hand book for loading instructions would be my advice. Bluetooth again check your handbook for pairing instructions also the bluetooth units only allow pairing with I believe 4 phones so it's memory may be full clear it and you should be OK. Happy Christmas Dave

Yup we use the Toll M42 can be sticky though so sometimes I take M42 West to the M5 North off at the first exit then cross country Kidderminster then the 449 straight up doesn't seem to make much time difference but at least we are moving.
