Morning Mark The BMW straight six is one of the worlds great engines in either flavour. My brother inlaw has a 530d touring he commutes into Holland every week it is approaching 300k his previous 525d touring went beyond before he changed it. Both cars were/are BMW history to 100k then his local independent Garage plus we have the odd fiddle if something stumps them. As Trevor says at 140k is no mileage for these engines if they die it;s normally abuse not use. If I were you no matter what the book says I would give it a full service (engine, gearbox and diff) plus check the suspension shocks springs and bushes. Life for the bushes seems to be around 80k in my experience. Good Luck Dave

Morning Steve Welcome to the Forum Your Gearbox should be the ZF 6 speed box, normally when it is serviced the sump on the box is dropped so that the filter inside can be changed. While it is a DIY proposition it is a job far easier done on a ramp. ZF recommend service at around 80k km I had mine serviced by ZF at Crick took 3 hours and they are very thorough. There are many ZF specialists around but any competent autobox specialist and most good garages should be able to do it. If you do want to do it yourself have a look at www.newtis.info it has all the technical information you need (the same as used by BMW Dealers) You could also look at www.pelicanparts.com an American site so steering on the wrong side and no diesels but great how too's with step by step pictures. Hope this gives you what you need Dave

clips for windshield cowl panel for 2013 BMW535i
Greydog replied to stevexu's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Morning Steven Welcome to the Forum From experience with my brother inlaws 530d Touring he had the screen replaced and several of the expanding rivets got lost or broken and it wasn't until a rattle developed he noticed so no going back to the fitters. www.realoem.com is your friend, put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box and it will bring up your model. Then look in the trim section it will give you the rivet sizes and part numbers, if yours is the same there are 2 sizes which I think is the reason they get broken when being replaced when someone forces a larger rivet into the smaller hole then the small ones don't fit the larger hole ?? Why 2 sizes so close together? Only the cunning designer can tell Dave -
Welcome Ashley "BODGE" how horrendous is that!!! Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your vin number in the search box and it will bring up your model, then look in the relevant section. The small exploded drawing will show what should be there plus the part numbers for replacement. With luck you may be able to soak it in penetrating fluid and undo it, fingers crossed the threads are sound and it will just need replacement bolts. I would do both sides to be sure plus check the rears seeing as you have discovered"Bob the Butchers" handiwork. From the picture I wonder if they have bitched the head of the torx bolt and welded a nut on to try and fix their problem?? You should as you say have either M12 bolts or M12 torx bolts I believe BMW only sell/use the torx head bolts now Also check www.newtis.info this one is a BMW online technical information site that is the same as the information BMW Dealers use. Good Luck Let us know the outcome this certainly isnt a common problem Dave

Bridgestone are also approved, currently running Yoko's on my X5 they are wearing well but they are quite noisy.

330e Company car driver - don't hate me ;-)
Greydog replied to Keltic_2019_33e's topic in New Members Welcome
Welcome to the Forum Simon Why would we hate you ?? Jealous maybe 🤑 First the BMW hybrid isn't "new" they had one in the previous range, from what I have read the new model has improved electric range and pretty tasty combined performance plus as a company car the CO2 emissions make sense. ENJOY Let us know what you think warts and all Dave PS As i ts a plug in hybrid how long is the extension lead 😈 -
Hi Rob Welcome to the Forum Have a look at www.realoem.com it is an online BMW parts list put the last 7 digits of your Vin Number in the search box and it will bring up your model. If they are available you will find the part numbers there. Though if your car has the Mtec body kit it may be more difficult to find you could check other models to see, Coupe, Convertible, Touring just in case. Or there may be some after market parts though how well they fit would be a worry for me. Dave

2010 BMW 650i Transmission Failure - DBC
Greydog replied to Michael Mak's topic in BMW 6 Series Forum
Morning Micheal Try www.newtis.info it is a BMW Technical Information site this is the same information used by BMW dealers it should have what you need. I would get the Alternator regulator checked as if the charging is intermittent so will the fault be. Also check the battery earth points in the boot, low voltage's cause all sorts of spurious faults and Trans Fail Safe is one. Dave- 16 replies

2010 BMW 650i Transmission Failure - DBC
Greydog replied to Michael Mak's topic in BMW 6 Series Forum
You should have Minimum 12.4v at the battery 14.8v with the engine running. Check the power connections at the under bonnet jump start points are tight also engine earth strap.BMW use common earth points around the car I had issues with a corroded earth point in the boot near the battery. Cleaned and refitted no issues any more so I worked my way through all the others (there are a lot)- 16 replies

2 sizes, your specialist tool kit overflows 😁 Dave

Morning Andy From what I can see mine was factory order with folding mirrors plus being older (simpler) to fiddle with. So you may require the check box activating plus a software update. Someone with INPA/NCS/DIS who can help is needed I think. Dave
-
Hi Tom I had a local BMW Dealer my car was AUC with Warranty when I brought it from them they were terrible to deal with there were never any issues found or sorted. Took it to a different BMW Dealer 20 miles away and they sorted all sorts of niggles without me even asking. Keep the pressure on to get it sorted, ask them if they have checked swirl flaps and wastegate bolts Good Luck Dave
-
Remember you can buy motors through the well known auction site at not a lot of money the difficult thing now is finding micro switches. While your checking I will look in BMW 1.4.0 to see if they need activating through the software it may save you some time if thats it Dave

Morning Simon Like all manufacturers BMW use parts across several models. Have a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box and it will bring up your model. Then search in the Bodywork section and find the part number, click on the part number and it will give a list of models that that door was used on. Dave
-
Hi Tom Welcome You don't tell us which engine your running or how many miles? That helps us. Short answer for BMW to kind of shrug their shoulders is not acceptable on a car of this supposed quality rattles are wrong. I would be looking at using a different BMW Dealer or a BMW Specialist Dave

As the drain is normally a rubber pipe I am thinking that an over enthusiastic valeter has possibly dislodged or folded the drain with a hoover nozzle. With luck maybe you can get your hand in there and sort it. Or if you have hands like mine a bendy 10 year old Grandson works well in tight spots Dave

Morning Andy I would be asking for the cost of replacement from the seller. That way it saves your wallet and your contingency money. Reverting to standard set up should be straight forward though you may need quite a few parts (look at realoem) I would also budget for replacing all bushes at the rear while the work is done. Also get a full all wheel alignment done. Dave
-
Great to know it was a good step forward particularly if it sounds like the Vid, once they know where your wallet is ehh!! Good move with the auto hold function, you may have a bit more faffing with the mirrors when I got mine it had the standard switch. I had to change the nearside mirror cover and discovered there were motors in there so got a window control switch nothing so did a bit of reading (well a lot ) and discovered the micro switches suffer or to be more accurate the spring arm that opens and closes them. Spent a Sunday playing and found the drivers side micro switch in bits I guess a previous owner didnt want to investigate so for some mad reason changed the switch. I managed to get a new micro switch from Maplins and got them working then decided to see if I could get them to close on lock and open on unlock. A bit of head scratching and a small circuit with 3 relays and my mirrors close on lock and open on unlock. I have a BMW specialist who services it and it drives him nuts as it's not supposed to happen on the E53 Let us know how it goes Dave If you want the wiring diagram I can dig it up

Welcome Wayne This is a new one. Where was it in for repair? if the check light is on normally a fault is recorded and held in the memory of each module. If a BMW diagnostic program is used it can interrogate each control module individually I used BMW 1.4.0. When I scan the car it will show each module with and indicator against it (example DME1 fault) when I interrogate the fault I can see either a Red indicator (fault present) a Yellow indicator (fault not present) plus a description of the fault. If the Garage used a generic reader it may not see the history in each control module. Attached is a screen from my brother inlaws 530d which we scanned last weekend there are 3 screens of modules. Most of the faults on his car were historic (fault not present) so were just reset Dave
