Morning where did you take the car to have the codes read it needs Autologic or BMW software? Do you still have ABS/DSC lights on the dash or could they not clear them? If there were no faults prior to your battery failing then I would think it rare (but not impossible) for the ABS or a sensor to go at the same time. This may sound daft try starting the car and driving slowly forward turning the steering lock to lock, turn off and restart, This works with the X5 after battery change.

1st Port of call get the codes read that will give you a better idea of what is going on. Though if it is like the X5 a low or failing battery gives all sorts of strange behavior and warning lights. Try charging the battery fully if that works you know where to look.

Retrofit 3.5Mm Jack Lead Point On E53 2006 X5
Greydog replied to Matelot Mike X5 56''s topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Mine has an Ipod connector and the 3.5 Jack but same idea, mine cost £15 from memory. As you have found stuff missing on yours I would take the headunit out first and make sure the connector is there. On mine it wasn't on the headunit it is in the loom about 6" back I followed the loom back and it was tucked in. Good Luck Dave -
Retrofit 3.5Mm Jack Lead Point On E53 2006 X5

Bummer There are many who have fitted a Parrot system even though they have the OEM bluetooth fitted sadly the BMW technology isn't great. With the Parrot you could stream your music and less pairing hassles, just a thought. Mine has the Nav headunit taking it out is easy just be gentle levering off the surround I put masking tape around to protect things from scratches then 4 torx screws and move it forward follow the wiring from the back of the unit you will find a small connector mine was black. The lead I brought was from Radio World and called a BMW Aux input adapter, I fed a length of wire from the glove box up behind the dash and found it with my hand pulled it up taped the jack end of the lead to it and pulled it back through into the glove box. Connected the two plugs checked it worked OK and put everything back together from memory took about 2 hrs with tea and biscuits. -
Has My 2006 E53 Got Bluetooth??
Greydog replied to Matelot Mike X5 56''s topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Question? Do you have Navigation? If you do do you have the telephone option on the menu screen? Yes in the top section of your centre arm rest the lid has 2 catches a button on top and a finger catch underneath. Push the top oval button it should reveal either the bluetooth release box which will have a Voice button or just a storage tray. -

Have you checked the glove box to see if you have one? To fit one you need to remove the headunit the loom to the headunit has a black 4 pin connector the usb/3.5 jack lead just plugs in then feed the lead into the glove box. I brought one with a Ipod connector, You will see Aux on the menu screen when its back together select Aux and go. BMW bluetooth wont stream music well not until the later E70. -
Has My 2006 E53 Got Bluetooth??
Greydog replied to Matelot Mike X5 56''s topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
As the other post check your center arm rest it has an upper storage area you should find a release box in there with a voice button. If it isnt there then you don't have bluetooth. If it is that is the pairing button (not the steering wheel) you will also need the passkey if it isn't with your handbooks (plastic card) if it isn't there the bluetooth unit is in the left side of the boot buried under the floor -
1st Does your Nav screen show the Telephone function 2nd Check the upper lid on the arm rest inside you will either a release box for a phone or a release box with a voice button. 2 is good if you have the voice button you have bluetooth. Press the voice button and hold it for a few seconds with ignition off turn on the ignition release the button then press again the screen will go to pairing mode. You will need the pass key to enter into your phone if it isn't with your hand books it will be on the unit buried in the left side of the boot. If you have a code reader (BMW 1.4.0) you can start pairing from the reader

I brought the X5 to tow a horse box so sounds similar use to you, also in the winter I shoot so mild off road ( snotty gateways and rutted farm and forest tracks) I believe 17" wheels are the smallest due to the size of your brakes, with mine I need 18". Winter I run 255 x 55 x 18 Wintrac Exteme. Summer is a staggered set of 20" 275 x 40 front 315 x 35 rear running Yoko Advan. So far I have never had an issue with the horse box even when it has been a wet muddy entrance/exit to horse events. Keep your eye on Ebay for 17" wheels most of the E53 used a 17" spare with a Michelin M&S tyre most are unused, that could be a way to build a set of cheap winter tyres that would give better traction off road.

Great news that it just needed a service, I would get the fuel filter changed when you can as they are hidden behind a cover in front of the rear wheel. A clogged filter can give all sorts of spurious issues, even Dealers miss these. Now enjoy

So my X5 had an Analogue TV/Video unit to which a separate DTV tuner had been added, which was OK but needed a separate remote and infra red receiver to control it. BMW hybrid units are stupidly priced for what is basically old technology now, so I have been looking for away to upgrade the existing receiver it had to be possible? I was considering pulling it apart to do some reverse engineering but hadn't got around to it. Then I found this http://pibus.info/tv/, Check it out, I purchased the kit and for less than £100 and converted my analogue unit to DTV. It really is as simple as it looks and says with only a little basic soldering required plus with the how too it only took 3 hrs with tea and biscuits. With great service from both suppliers it really is easy to do, I now have DTV and its controlled from the head unit, plus reception is much better than with the add on unit. Next project buy a spare ULF and see if I can reverse engineer it to improve the BT so that I can have OEM BT phone control with A2DP

That's the one. I have mine on an old laptop running windows XP that I just keep for garage use now. You can run it on later Windows but will need to set up a Virtual Machine. Once you are up and running read the codes Note them then clear them. Run the car and see what comes back, then work through them methodically. As said I would start with the engine codes Good luck
-
OK, X5's are very sensitive to voltage changes/ battery condition if they are low it will throw all sorts of spurious warnings. If you are looking to sort it yourself buy a BMW 1.4.0 scanner about £15 to £20 on ebay it will let you see whats going on and give fault codes in English. Next I would get the battery checked, if its good make sure its fully charged if not or unsure replace it with a good quality battery. Don't sit with ignition on and engine off for long as these can flatten a battery in no time due to the amount of current all the systems take. Each control unit retains codes so some of the codes you have may have been there for some time, even BMW often just clear the codes then drive the car to see what comes back. With the DDE codes I would check the MAF and clean it EGR clean or replace it. Thermostats are a known issue when running is your needle dead centre? The Webasto Aux Heaters can be a problem but are not really going to effect the main car so this and the radio and lights would be down the list to fix. Good Luck

Congratulations and Welcome From what I have read this is fairly common with diesel BMW's and normally happens at cold start disappears when warm. When was it last serviced? I have read there are two types of EGR one with a filter and one with a Vortex separator. Also the fuel filters on the diesels often don't get changed as it is behind a cover plate and gets forgotten.Just Google your symptoms

First I agree with Steve if you brought it from a Garage take it back and ask them to sort it. However if you want to sort it or understand it yourself I will try and help with the codes, 000002 RAD This is a Radio code if the radio is working I would suspect a speaker fault somewhere not fatal to the car 000003 STH Auxillary Heating Control I don't have this again not fatal to the car 00000B STH As above 00000D STH As above 000012 PDC This is Park Distance Control probably one of the sensors in the bumper these are a Royal PITA on many X5's 000016 PDC As Above 000037 EGS Electronic Gearbox control this could be linked to one of the DDE faults but needs further investigation 00007C LCM Light Control Module if all exterior lamps light then it needs investigation suspect earth points maybe 00008D IKE This is Instrument cluster electronics could be anything from a duff earth to a bulb out not fatal to the car 00008E LCM As above 000093 LCM As above 0000BD IKE As above 000100 DDE These are all Diesel Engine Management related as I don't have a diesel I cant be much help 001260 DDE As above 001613 DDE As above 001E30 DDE As above 003505 DDE As above You say you had the turbo changed, why? Again if the fault was there when you purchased it it should have been the responsibility of the selling garage. Why did Synter have the car? The turbo change could have triggered some of the engine fault codes and if there is an air leak contributing to them. Sometimes the codes can be reset and wont return. Hope this helps

Alternator Issue I Think, But Not Sure Of The Solution
Greydog replied to Sagwala's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Get the battery checked first if it is not holding a charge you will get all sorts of spurious lights and warnings. The alternator is water cooled and not cheap to fix Good Luck -
Hi the X5 is a big heavy car so suspension bushes take a beating and from experience are past their best at around 80k. The car has a lot of "gadgets" so make sure absolutely everything works as it should. I would also budget for a warranty just in case. Then enjoy
-
Oh no you brought the Taxi!!!
-
Hi My first X5 was a 4.4 with LPG the reason for buying was we sold our Horse Transporter (not used enough) and brought a Horse trailer so needed a tow car. We also have dogs so space and towing capacity drove the choice plus V8 X5's are cheap (around 2k cheaper than a Diseasal), big bonus. When looking make sure absolutely everything works as it should, don't fall for any "simple fix" bull sh*t. In my opinion in everyday use there is little to choose between 4.4 (320bhp) and 4.8 (355bhp) both are comfortable and great mile munchers..Remember these are big heavy cars so suspension bushes are suspect at about 60k plus, but that is normal maintenance When testing make sure you get to start the engine from cold, any rattles at start up walk away it will be expensive. Give it a good test drive and make sure the gearbox works smoothly in all modes, when you get back let the car idle for a time and then rev it any smoke from the exhaust could point to valve stem oil seals again expensive to fix. 4.8's have air suspension all round make sure it works as it should..With both I budgeted for a full service and oil changes for diffs transfer box and gearbox I also had wheel alignment checked. Be picky and hold out for the right car and enjoy that V8 rumble, plus your neighbours will never think you came home in a taxi!!

PS a Parrot or similar will also allow music streaming
-
If there is no phone cradle in the arm rest then it may be quicker and cheaper to fit a Parrot or similar in a discreet place to keep the OEM look
-
I think its the puddle lights in the door mirrors that give problem fading on. I would try them and let us know if they work
-
A second thought if you get smoke when you lift off then it could be valve stem oil seals
-
I would bet EGR system is clogged so when your at tick over any oils in the re circulation system accumulate instead of being constantly burnt, when you accelerate big cloud of oil smoke. This happens with many marques not just BMW,

Afraid so I did mine when I was down to almost empty on the washer tank. Both my filters were clogged with a white scummy gunge, not difficult to clean just a pain having to almost drain the tank. It was a year ago I did mine. You can see the filters on the drawing they push fit to the bottom of the pump
