Battery Restraint Malfunction / Battery change
Greydog replied to Alik989's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Morning Ali If all connections are in place and tight is the IBS cable connection good ? Have you tried running live Data to see if you get any more information Dave -
Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum The 8 speed ZF box is pretty tough my brother inlaws 540d is beyond 400bhp it was mapped almost from new and is around 200k with out issues, but it is very well maintained gearbox transfer case and diffs have had 3 oil/fluid changes. His has had a gearbox software update but that was part of the general gearbox service last time So for you to need a gearbox remap just what are you planning 🤣 Dave

Morning Spblade Welcome to the Forum A rough idle can be caused by a number of things from an Air leak to as you say an injector issue. Is it 116i or 116d makes a difference in diagnosis If the scan tool was a generic tool it will miss a lot you really need a BMW specific tool How many miles has it covered when was it last serviced (not just an oil change) Dave

Morning Paul Unfortunately BMW as did many other manufacturers started fitting plastic parts not just externally but also internally and with many heat cycles they become brittle as they age I have seen the the Header tank on a friends Mercedes his was just under the cap around the neck so only showed when the engine was really hot. When I rebuilt the 4.6 (plastic chain guides Failed) I found several coolant "O" rings in the coolant system were starting to weep. BMW wanted to sell complete hose assemblies but many of the parts I sourced were from the USA (Dinan) new Cams,Throttle body gasket sets amonst them were a set of Viton Coolant system "O" rings worth checking those as well. Good Find Dave

BMW 3 Series M Sport Steering Wheel Question?
Greydog replied to Marnie2k's topic in BMW 3 Series Forum
Morning Anthony Welcome to the Forum As long as you realise that if the new wheel has function controls for items not fitted to your car it wont add them (paddle shift as an example). Be careful removing the Airbag (make sure the Battery is disconnected) then as long as the fixings and clock spring are the same it should fit OK Dave If it does need registering it isn't a complicated -
My neighbour who brought the iCarsoft reader was shocked the first time he plugged it into the car to discover it could read 21 Control Modules and over 100 sensors and related connections in the Bus system on his car so well worth the investment with even our local BMW specialist charges £120 per Hour and the Main Dealer over £200. It also alows service functions to be carried out. He is now much more adventurous with the things he can do. My advice would be if you can get a copy of INPA?ISTA up and running on a Laptop it will allow Dealer Level diagnostics If that is to ambitious then the iCarsoft system is simple to use and only one step behind, plus it is self contained no laptop needed Dave

Morning John If you are not able to DIY check online for the Register of BMW Specialists most are BMW trained and will have the Tech and Knowledge plus they are normally about half the cost of main Dealers (someone has to pay for the Free Coffee 😁) If you are DIY capable then look online for a BMW capable Diagnostic tool, iCarsoft around £100 and Foxwell there are several around these days. There is also INPA/ISTA which is the same as BMW use you can buy a copy and mount it on a Laptop for around £100 or so. I have INPA/ISTA but a neighbour brought iCarsoft and I have used it it is really a very good tool Good Luck Dave

Hi Chynna Welcome to the Forum What Diagnostic Reader did you use although many readers will give a code they will be general rather than specific A BMW capable Diagnostic reader will normally not just give a code it will also give a description of the fault helping in diagnosing a fault Dave

2010 X1 Water leak on passenger side footwell
Greydog replied to rjrive's topic in BMW X1 Series Forum
Hi Raymond Welcome to the Forum Sun Roof Drains are a known culprit doesnt take much fror them to get clogged Dave -
Hi John Welcome to the Forum I would check very carefully the loom to the coil packs and the Injectors. I have seen a misfire fault on a Volvo T5 and a BMW 335i neither car logged fault codes. Both cars would start and run smoothly and show no fault or misfire even when revs were raised, but if the car was under load the symptoms were there. The T5 it was injector harness with cracked insulation and the BMW failed insulation on the loom to the Coil Packs Hope this helps Dave

Battery Restraint Malfunction / Battery change
Greydog replied to Alik989's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Hi Ali Have you checked that the battery holding clamp is in place ? When the battery was changed was swapped like for like? Dave -
Morning Stu The fact you have a wiper issue would point me away from the Cluster initially My thoughts are Footwell Module it's in the left hand footwell (well it would be 😅) Run a scan it should show up any issues. The Footwell control module on the 4.6 caused all sorts of odd stuff radio that would randomly turn on/off odd light issues seat controls. BMW say you can't swap them it has to be new and set up by them (wrong of course) I changed mine for an upgraded unit second hand it took longer to remove the old unit and swap it than it did to re-program it cured everything and probably stuff I hadn't found 😅 Dave P.S I wont let the E70 on Whats App or Face Book just in case 🤣

Morning Owen You can check your cars build sheet by using an online Vin Decoder adaptive LED lights would be S552A I am pretty sure they should be self leveling as well I am not sure how you could manually reset the lights without beam setting equipment but it does sound daft the way yours are set Dave

Morning Owen Welcome to the Forum First thing to establish is whether your headliamps are Halogen or HID, next what condition are the Headlamp lens's in and the simplist thing last beside the headlamp switch do you have a headlamp aim roller switch if so try moving the setting. If your headlamps are Halogen then a simple bulb upgrade can make things better (Osram Night Breaker are good) if you fit LED bulbs take care as they can be an MOT fail. Also the headlamp lens must be clean and clear as they are Polycarbonate they do tend become cloudy. They can be polished and cleaned that also makes a big difference. Dave

🤣 They may have their own Whats App Group 🤣🤣 scary who knows with AI Guess that means we are in trouble Dave

Morning Andrew When I rebuilt the E53 4.6is engine BMW didn't have the Crank Damper or Belt tensioners and they were on long lead times. I brought Gates replacements after talking to an engine tuner in the States saved money and 80k later they have just out lasted the OEM stuff. I would check the tensioner carefully maybe worth replacing Belt and Tensioner I would have no worries about using replacements from Gates Dave

Airbag Warning light - Strange Intermittent fault
Greydog replied to BigZed's topic in BMW 1 Series Forum
Hi Paul A neighbour had the seat mat sensor fail and discovered 2 things (1) they are expensive (2) the job is not straight forward (he has a 330i touring) He actually found it cheaper to buy a second hand seat with everything working fortunately passenger seats tend to be less worn. As far as the fault code goes are there ant other codes associated (check the Footwell module) Hope this helps Dave -
Well spent an afternoon in the sun finding and fixing the K-can faults just need to get at the Brakes now Dave
