  1. If I recall most of the early failures I have read about the OEM chains breaking were replaced by BMW so no information really came to the outside world. Particularly after they were mentioned on Angela Ripon's program rogue traders I believe chains were upgraded from around 2010/11 though that may not be correct as I say BMW have played this very close to their chests. The normal things that would snap a chain are poor installation/alignment or over tension. I have never been a fan of extended service intervals changing oil and filters annually (around 5 to 7k in my case) If the chain had been replaced in your engine with a chain that has a joining link, if the link was not fitted correctly is a possibility? But then if the Garage fitted a complete engine they would have no way of knowing what chain was in-place. A really difficult place to be for you and them I think Hopefully they may offer a goodwill gesture
  2. Well done Matey Some times these jobs are fiddly as you have to get your head around reversing the build process (last in first out) Bet it looks great with the new Piano Black trims Dave
  3. Morning Neil Welcome to the Forum BMW OEM equipment was Westfailia or Oris. My own X5 has Westfailia fitted at build. A reputable Company should be able to get the full retrofit kit including the correct interface for rear PDC and Camera Good Luck Enjoy a summer pulling your van Dave
  4. Answered in the first post
  5. Always worth trying also worth trying, as the alternative is finding another part? You could try cleaning all contact areas and reassembling using electrical contact paste Good Luck Dave
  6. Morning Adrian If my old memory is working the first codes are related to the O2 sensors, CF17 would seem to be Drive train related. So when was the trans last serviced? the last PO160 code is again O2 related. I would start the process with a full engine and Trans service and replace the O2 sensors Attached is a full list of BMW OBD codes Good Luck Dave BMW PDF OBD Codes.pdf
  7. Morning Adrian Welcome to the Forum Dave
  8. Just sorry I couldn't be more help Jack Good point regarding the Invoice and the Response email take copies and ask them for their thoughts Dave
  9. ENJOY
  10. Unfortunately the only way to pursue would be with a full strip down and inspection by a qualified Engineer to assess the cause (not cheap) and even then may not be in your favour. The garage are correct that clearing all sludge and swarf from a damaged engine is essential or potential problems are still there. I think you have some difficult and expensive decisions you could talk to a BMW Specialist Dismantler like Quarry Motors who may help in finding a low mileage complete engine or scrap the car I feel your pain Dave
  11. From your problem it would seem to be a "wear and tear" issue ie, a lot of years of turning the wheel. The slip ring gets a lot of wear so check it carefully Good Luck Dave
  12. Morning Paul Always a worry when one of these warnings surfaces there is an Oil Pressure sensor normally on the Filter housing I would start there If it hasn't been done recently Oil and Filter change and new sensor and see if that fixes it Good Luck Dave
  13. Hi Zulqarnain Welcome to the Forum Sadly without seeing or hearing the noise who can tell. Plus not knowing which engine 2.0 petrol 2.0d 2.5i petrol 2.5d 3.0i 3.0d the list goes on. At 161k I would not be surprised if chain guides and tensioner needs changing Good luck Dave
  14. Afternoon Andrea My bet would be the Slip Spring behind the steering wheel is at fault. A diagnostic would confirm if you have access to BMW 1.4.0 or similar (not expensive to buy and worth its weight) Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Then look at the Steering section, the small exploded drawing will give clues to what fits where plus there will be part numbers that ensure you get the correct part for your model if replacing it is required. Also if you double click the part number it should give a list of any alternatives available Good luck with the fix Dave
  15. Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum Timing chain issues are quite rare but still exist, the upper timing chain can be changed in situ I believe (not done one personally). My own instinct is as extended service intervals became the norm the number of incidents increased I change oil and filters annually at similar miles to those you intend. Use only good quality oil and filters Generally as with good maintenance they are capable of star ship mileages As for any used car History History History. Use all the checks you can to verify mileage use and service history. On your test drive ensure everything works as it should every button every switch every gadget. Tyres should be good condition and good quality. Then if your happy with the car and the price, ENJOY YOUR BEEMER Dave
  16. Morning Peter Welcome to the Forum You don't say which model you have most BMW's will have a ZF box (Manual or Automatic) though some models use an Asin Warner box A lot of 5 speed ZF auto boxes suffered the dreaded clonk/lurch when slowing or coming to a stop. Most could be stopped with a service and software update. Of course all mountings and drive shaft are in good condition Dave
  17. Old Bloke syndrome rules buy another fob 🤣🤣 If that lot is confusing enough just wait for AI 🤣🤣 What ever you choose enjoy your Beemer Dave
  18. Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum Did your original seats have Heaters ? The yellow pug I think is seat occupancy sensors for Air bag/Seat belt You could check www.realoem.com for part numbers Dave
  19. Morning Rory Never used either so cant comment on the Card or App I would expect the card to be around the same cost as a Fob so I would buy a Fob. But then I am an old bloke Dave
  20. Morning Dave Welcome to the Forum Can you give a bit more information ?? Is the issue. When driving at constant speed with CC engaged the car selects Neutral and stops? Or When driving at constant speed with CC engaged the car Gear selector shows Neutral but the car continues to drive ? Dave
  21. Morning Dee BMW strike again ??? Their standard response is change the complete part at BMW New price ??? BMW do not make Turbo Chargers they buy them in Talk to a Turbo specialist they will be a much better bet as they actually fix issues. They will also be very aware of any known issues Dave
  22. I have heard of Dealerships (and I know they can vary even within Groups) of Dealerships who are unhappy to touch anything that is "not BMW OEM Supply" and insist on replacing parts "to ensure it is correct" Hope fully your Dealer is one of the good ones, Replacing the struts and their fixings plus alignment Dave
  23. Morning Alex I hope it is under warranty (though as someone else has touched it the Dealership will duck responsibility) Also remember BMW do not repair anything they replace parts complete, get ready for a £2k min estimate 😁 If the original garage replaced the dust cover on the strut my guess is they didn't put it back correctly and some thing is out of alignment Dave
