Morning Sherry To be sure you need a Diagnostic Scan as the issue could be anything from a failing Starter Motor to a failing Battery, an igition switch problem or Gerabox Inhibitor switch Make sure the battery is fully charged (use the charge points under the bonnet) put the gear selector in N then try. Check all fuses and the Fuel Pump relay The diagnostic scan would confirm what the issue is Good Luck Dave

  9. Morning Mick Welcome to the Forum First why was the MAF changed ? were all hoses and connections checked for leaks ? If the MAFwas confirmed as the culprit was it checked and cleaned ? If still causing faults changing it should be straight forward. If you have diagnostics clear the fault and rescan to make sure it is cleared obviously if the fault remains it is something else in the system. If you don't have diagnostics try disconnecting the Battery for 20/30 mins that should reset everything Good Luck Dave
  10. Morning Nathan Welcome to the Forum First check the battery connections in the Boot in case the fused link has been damaged. The fuel cut off may have been triggered so check the Fuel pump fuses and relay then check the Starter relay. I would also carry out a full diagnostic scan just to be sure even if the car is running. If you don't have a BMW Capable diagnostic scanner you need the help of someone who does Good Luck Dave

  12. Morning Pat If you are keeping the original wheels I believe BMW offered 255x40x17 as an option. You can check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model then check the Wheels/Tyres section you should see a list of all wheel/tyre sizes offered OEM Hope this helps Dave
  13. Morning Andrew On the E53's I fitted reverse camera's on all 3 and connected the Video into the TV unit (Conveniently under the floor in the boot) and took power from the reverse lights. I brought a wireless transmission unit one half connected to the camera in the tailgate the other providing the signal to the TV unit. I also added a Camera in the horse trailer so my wife can see how they are travelling same system wireless with a power switch in the glove box Dave
  14. Morning Kevin So your now our go to Guy for Bimmercode, not sure if I follow the door handle lights in reverse though !! Personally never used it as I have BMW 1.4.0 (used for earlier iBus cars) and INPA/ISTA for all later models both programs allow full Dealer Level access for Diagnostic's and Programming Using these programs I have retrofitted FCM and JBM.units Dealer said not possible πŸ˜† On the E53's with a little additional wiring added Fold on Lock Unfold on Unlock Door Mirrors, DRL's (Neither function available on E53) The main reason though is for diagnostic capability, keeping my cars and those of family friends and neighbours in good order Dave

  16. Morning Bikash Welcome to the Forum First scan the car to see if there is a fault registered the reset process will not work unles the fault is cleared. If a fault si there clear it and go through the reset process. As said I had a cable not releasing at the hub end cleaned and lubricated Check the fuses in the boot there is a 5amp fuse mine was OK my Brother inlaws fuse was blown replaced no more problems Obviously occasionally a unit fails and it will need changing Good Luck Dave

Glad your sorted at last John maybe now you can enjoy your car at last 😁 For what it is worth Mercedes haven't always been so stellar I owned a 98 AMG E55 Estate which in 2000 was actuelly replaced by Mercedes due to rust issues!! The cars were fabulous but rust was a real problem with both the E55's changed it for a CLS AMG 63 Estate. Moved to BMW X5 when we sold the Horse Lorry and down sized to a Horse trailer.   19. Morning Richard I use INPA/ISTA which can activate the ABS pump to finalise the bleeding process, I recently tried my neighbours iCarsoft which also can activate the ABS. If your Autel unit will activate the ABS your in business. I brought my Vacuum Bleeding Kit about 20 years ago from Ebay can't remember the cost but it was cheap and works really well, even doing jobs for family, neighbours and friends if it gets used once a year it is busy. I always start at the brake furthest from the master cylinder and work my way in. My kit has a 1 ltr collector I have never needed more than 1/2ltr even when brake pipes have been replaced. You should see the fluid colour change from amber to very light as it pulls fluid through, as soon as you see the change and no bubbles (shouldn't be any in a fluid change anyway) lock off the nipple and check the master cylinder, top up and move to the next brake. Final action activate the ABS Job Done. My sons Toyota Pickup I couldn't activate the ABS but it appears to have made no difference for what it's worth Tip: Dont keep opened Brake Fluid it starts absorbing water once opened so buy 1/2ltr at a time Good Luck Dave Hope this helps

What Service History and when was it last serviced ? Is the smoke after lfting off the throttle and then applying it again? Smoke can be caused by a number of issues, Leaks, Wear in the Engine the more we know the more accurate our guess's are likely to be Dave
  21. Morning Ian Welcome to the Forum Soot is the enemy of all Diesel engines and clogged EGR systems and blocked DPF's are the common symptoms effecting modern diesel engines. My driving pattern is similar to yours. Getting the exhaust temperature up to trigger Regeneration is the key so a good half hour run on a dual carriageway or Motorway keeping engine revs up by using manual on the box has worked for me (so far) I do it about once a month Making sure everything is serviced and all Glowplugs operate as they should (BMW use the Glow Plugs to help achieve Regen Temps) and a bottle of DPF cleaner in a tank of diesel a couple of times a year have worked so far 😁 (tempting fate now) Good luck Dave
  22. Morning Richard Just shows what the effect of Dealer hourly rates does to service costs, my local BMW Dealer hourly rates are north of Β£200 p/hr. Everything on your list is within the scope of a logical home mechanic. I use Mann oil and fuel filters (OEM) and the best quality Castrol oil and do the full service every year Micro filter every 2 years Brake fluid just changed 1/2 liter Β£9, I have a Vacuum Brake bleeding kit so simple to do and my diagnostics activate the ABS to complete, the job takes a about 30 mins. The onlt jobs which need some special tools are the Brake fluid change to activate the ABS and serviceing theTransfer Case resetting the adaptions Well done matey Dave

Hi Joe Welcome to the Forum I am not certain but as it is part of the cars Safety Interlock system I don't think it can be coded out Never seen the problem but from what I have read while it is a bit of a Faff it is a DIY proposition without needing to buy parts as the spring (clock spring type) can be unwound to get it working again Also from what I read BMW will want to replace the complete shift unit at around Β£1k minimum that alone makes it worth a go Dave

I dont think chrome grills wuld add much My X5 E70 is Star Silver Black Wheels and Black Grills which I think is a good combination whilde my X5 E53 4.6is is Estoril Blue Siver Wheels and Chrome Grills which suits the colour combination Sunday jet wash for mine and my wifes Subaru they spend a lot of their time in the mud during the shooting season some times a shovel would be quicker than the jet wash 🀣
  25. Morning Colin Welcome to the Forum From what I understand the Gateway Module that handles communication throughout the car has a full memory of old faults. They need clearing before things can settle down. Can you or who ever got you the codes not clear the Fault Memory. Or you could try disconnecting battery and leave it disconnected for at least 20-30mins (disconnect Neg first) Dealers often do this to clear faults. For me though the process using a good BMW capable Diagnostic is make sure the battery is fully charged read all faults clear the faults and fault memory. Rescan to see what if anything returns, that is the only way you will know what if anything is wrong. Hope this Helps Dave
