BMW x5 e53 2006 3.0d automatic GB fuel consumption
Greydog replied to Kokejn's topic in BMW X5 Series Forum
Morning Kokejn Welcome to the Forum Consumption for the 218hp 6 speed gearbox model should be around 10ltr/100km around town and 8ltr/100km on a run As Stu has said first place to start is with the inlet side is everything as clean as it can be and no leaks. Parts wear and become clogged with age and Miles/Kilometers covered, Make sure the EGR is clean and working correctly as Stu said throttle bodies wear and become dirty check all Vacuum lines and and inlet hoses, final check on the inlet side are the injectors worn or clogged they have a huge effect. Is the turbo in good condition and producing correct boost Hope this helps -
As you have a noise which worries you clearly it isn't perfect, and the belt area needs checking/attention Dave

Hi Ali Your first code I believe is Glow Plug controller related, either the Glow Plug controller or its wiring Second is normally Transfer case or Lin bus related The last is not one I have ever seen before fingers crossed its related to the other 2 I would start with the Glow Plugs and Controller not an expensive job but a fiddly one as the Inlet manifold has to come off to get at them. Allow yourself plenty of time as the Glow plugs are a known problem soak them in release fluid for a couple of hours first. The Glowplug controller is still awkward to get at on the side of the engine below the glow plugs the total job I would rate a 6 (1 being easy 10 being a complete Beech) Next I would check the electrical connections at the Transfer Case make sure they are clean and made correctly Then when its back together make sure the Battery is fully charged reset all codes and start then scan to see what comes back Dave

Morning Ali I can't open your attachment for some reason can you just post the codes in your message If the car is starting and cutting out I would start with the fuel pump fuses and relay. Check the fuel pressure sensor and if its a diesel check the pressure at the High Pressure pump When was the car last serviced and when was the fuel filter last changed ? Dave

Morning Guy Take care if inspecting Belts and pulleys if the engine is running as I said in my original post if you can't DIY get help. Your drive belt wraps around the main Crank pulley and AC Pump at the bottom of the engine up around the alternator then down under a Tensioner Water Pump pulley Are you loosing coolant ? I have never worked on a 2 series but did read about water pump/thermostat issues some time ago It is imposible to acurately diagnose a problem from a description we are just guessing Dave

Hi Vincent Welcome to the Forum You don't need to accept the first diagnosis, good practice if you can't DIY is always get 3 quotes. Plus don't tell them what you think it may be or what someone else has told you. A rattle could be as simple as a belt tensioner or as expensive as a Timing chain with many other possibles in between. For garages get local recommendations don't rely on "Online stuff" word of mouth is better. You can also use the Register of BMW Specialists to find a local specialist Good luck Dave

Hi Paul How disappointing You would think that is not to risky for a Dealer to set up a test to trigger the visual and audible warnings even if they consider automatic brake testing dangerous Dave
-
Morning Duncan Welcome to the Forum If you only brought the car 3 weeks ago you still have consumer protection take it back to the garage you brought from Dave

Well all done. If you need to do this you need an extractor to get the injectors out I made my own. Welded an M14 wheel nut to an M12 nut so I could use my Slide hammer 1 2 and 3 popped out really easily 4 5 and 6 no way? Then I talked to a Truck and Plant mechanic he told me they use an air driven vibrating tool to get injectors out. Back home and with the help of one of my sons and an SDS hammer drill with a blunt chisel attachment against the underside of the Slide hammer and it worked. It took the best part of Saturday to get the last 3 out but out they came. All back together battery fully charged plugged in the diagnostics and cleared fault memory then reset the Injector adaptions, then 30 seconds of cranking and she burst into life Dave

e63 m6 (2010) competition package grill (right) help
Greydog replied to JayBeeAB's topic in BMW 6 Series Forum
Morning Jay Welcome to the Forum I just checked www.realoem.com and only the standard grills are listed ? Nuts. Surely your Dealer could contact BMW direct for Help if the can't or don't want to then I would. A call to BMW UK Customer services may work. If not then 2 other options come to mind (1) can the grill be repaired ? (2) I wonder if someone like Alpina would be able to help Hope this helps Dave -
Morning Yigit Welcome to the Forum As you have ISTA and it is pointing to the Parking Brake switch and 2 inputs from the DSC I would search for information on (a) Test procedures for the switch and (b) Test the loom connections for continuity. If the Switch is faulty (by your results it appears it could be) a new one would be an easy swap. If it is a loom problem your electrical skills are about to be improved 😁 Dave

218d 2017 ACTIVE TOURER CENTRE REAR TAILGATE BRAKE LIGHT
Greydog replied to STEVE R's topic in BMW 2 Series Forum
Morning Steve I have never worked on a 2 series but would imagine like the X3 and X5 internal trims around the rear window have to come off for access or maybe like the X5 the spoiler top fixings can be accessed from outside I would check www.realoem.com to see how the trim parts are fitted -
Morning Paul You have one major answer, your Local Main Dealer is not a good one !! Have you talked to BMW UK Customer services ? Clearly either the Dealer doesn't have a clue or there is an issue they also don't understand ? Worse by telling you a road test would be dangerous are they saying the car is in a dangerous condition ? All questions I would put to BMW UK Good Luck Dave
-
Morning Billy You need a diagnostic session to narrow things down, at 161k I would also carry out a compression test and check fuel delivery and pressure. Your symptoms could be an accumulation of things or as simple as a dying throttle body diagnostics will help Dave
-
Morning Carole Welcome to the Forum This is a new one I guess you have tried all the menus in settings on your iDrive? Then as your in a 22 model have you asked your Dealer for help I know it doesn't always work but worth a try Good Luck with the search Dave
-
Morning Martyn Welcome to the Forum Do you have one or want one ?? Dave
-
Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum Sorry to say I have no experience of the "New" systems so looks as though I will have to get reading 😁 As your car is so new and should still be covered by the Manufacturer Warranty I would start there with a BMW Franchised Dealer Dave
-
Welcome back Rob We all have our Beemers to Enjoy so Enjoy away I was told by a Scot years ago "No such thing as an Expat Scot just a Scot on Educational Missionary trip" 🤣 Dave
-
Morning Stu Thanks for the offer of whip round 🤣 I am sure we will get used to eating the horses hay and dog biscuits 🤣 The fault is weird engine just shuts down, remove key replace key press start and it fires up first time and runs smoothly on all 6 get in and drive it and sometimes it behaves and another it cut out 4 times in a mile, no faults recorded. Had me scratching my head and reading a lot I will keep you updated once all the bits arrive Dave
-
Morning Barry Welcome to the Forum Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of the cars Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then search the body section. You should find all the information you need you should find exploded drawings that indicate where stuff goes and the part numbers which will help in your search. the bonnet I believe is just mechanical alignment and hinges with gas strut assistance. Once you have the information Google BMW Specialist Recyclers/Dismantlers and you should then be able to contact them to see who has what you need Good Luck with the Project let us know how you get on Dave

This happened recently while travelling at around 70 on a dual carriageway, quite disconcerting Hazards on get across to the near side stop Key out Key in car starts and runs normally for the rest of the day. At home plug in the Diagnostics and find Nothing ?? the issue didn't go away randomly the engine would cut out but no codes stored. Found a post on another Forum that detailed the symptoms could be 1.Crank Sensor 2. Injector 5 fail through water ingress 3. Fuel Filter or fuel pump issues. My problem was not finding any codes to give a clue as to just where the problem was. Then I took the car for a drive with diagnostics plugged in and Live Data running Hey Presto a code for Injector 5 recorded when the engine cut out So a set of Injectors ordered along with Glowplugs and Inlet Manifold gaskets (family is on bread and dripping) 🤣

Doesn't rule out an internal short on the shark fin though

Morning Sean Welcome to the Forum I take it your car has LED adaptive lights ? On the side of the headlamp is the LED control unit which is removable/changeable I have read that this would be a fix A new headlamp will certainly not be cheap particularly from BMW (not sure if they will sell just the control unit) Try Googling BMW Recyclers Quarry Motors are one I have used in the past always been helpful If you are not aware take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of yor Vin into the search box it will call up your model then look in the relavant section. That way you should get the correct part number (double click the part number and you will get a list of other models/years your parts were used on) Dave
