E39 530i Crank No Start After Front End Collision
Greydog replied to TinoTheGreek's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Certainly testing your resilience Tino I have seen 2, X5 E53 with corroded pins on the DME that gave no start no crank. In both cases the issue was caused by a faulty thermostat coolant was making its way up the loom by capillary action and caused damage to the DME. One I changed the DME, EWS, Keys Door lock and ignition lock, got the lot as a kit from Quarry Motors the other I could clean and get repaired by ECU Testing in Nottingham Dave -

E39 530i Crank No Start After Front End Collision
Greydog replied to TinoTheGreek's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Wow Tino your car is one for the archives So now you are looking for the supply to fuse 31 I will go back into TIS and see what I can find Almost there Buddy Dave -
I have been told the car monitors the Ash content of the DPF, if the DPF is replaced the Memory needs resetting or the car will not know the DPF is new and assume it is full or almost full If the car is over fuelling then first fuel pressure needs checking (has the fuel filter been changed?) If the fuel pressure is correct then the injectors are the next inline as a source of over fuelling As your ECU has been reset it will be interesting to see how it responds to the new DPF Let us know if it all settles down after fitting Dave

Morning Steve What a SAGA I take it that the rest of the engine is in good condition, Compression good? Timing checked and correct? Fuel pressure checked and correct? Injectors correct and matching? Is the rest of the emissions system intact? has the EGR valve been checked and cleaned has the Inlet manifold been cleaned? Are the Glow plugs working correctly? (without the glow-plugs working then a regen of the DPF wont be possible) so it will clog. Has the DPF memory been reset I have read that there can be issues if the memory thinks the new DPF is 80 or 90% full Check all the hoses and Vacuum lines make sure they are all good if any are clogged or split they wont help. As far as economy goes the 520 is a big car so around town low 20's high 30's early 40's on a run would be my guess Dave
-
Morning Craig Welcome to the Forum Your car has fuses in 4 locations, 1 under the bonnet (i believe there is a fuse legend under the lid) 2 Under the dash behind the Glove box, 3 In the boot (you say you have checked) 4 Right side of the boot behind the trim Never checked an F33 but my guess would be behind the glove box Good hunting Dave

Morning Tony Welcome to the Forum The first thought is anything on the M2 that would satisfy? Check realoem perhaps? As you already have a car that is 1 step down from the M2 not easy, any thing from the M3 or M4 competition range that may be adapted ? Good luck with the hunt Dave

Just designed skilfully, carefully and with great consideration to discourage any DIY playboys and girls out there and to fatten the wallets of the Dealerships 🤣 🤣 Mind now we know you can work while hanging upside down Joseph perhaps we can find you more work 🤣 Well done Matey Dave

Morning Michael I have never heard of this before, I think you need the OEM phone data cable to be sure. I have seen instances where after market cables don't allow all functions. Also I take it that the USB port described is the accessory port ? Check your handbook is this actually a charging point or just a data transfer point ? Dave

BMW IX EV Driver assistance got me Fined for speeding!
Greydog replied to wayne.jcks's topic in BMW iX Forum
Morning Wayne Welcome to the Forum Sorry to pour cold water on your plea but in the UK as the driver of the vehicle you are responsible !! The systems in your car are "Driver Assistance" not an Autonomous system where the driver can sit back and do nothing. Autonomous Systems don't exist as far as I am aware in the UK, neither are they legal in the UK as far as I am aware. Sat Nav systems even online will always be behind all mapping and speed data changes as they have to be registered and updated as an example Wales is moving all 30mph limits to 20mph this weekend! If you want an autonomous experience in a car I believe they are called Taxi's Dave -
Morning Jack If you haven't already put your Halogen bulbs back, do you lose the warnings ? That is a simple way of making sure there isn't a fault. Then check your LED lamps most of the LED lamps I have seen have resisters built in if not check the resistors you have brought are correct rating and fitted correctly Dave

Series5 f10 2014 saloon top half cover wanted
Greydog replied to ken levett's topic in BMW 5 Series Forum
Morning Ken Welcome to the Forum Oo err do you know something we don't 😅😅 I have hardly needed to to clear any frost for ages in Sussex As for a Top Cover apart from the normal Auction sites and Auto stores like Halfords I can't offer much help Dave -
Morning James Welcome to the Forum First a question, when the "low Coolant" alert shows how much coolant do you need to put in ? If there are no leaks then it shouldn't need anything, over filling can cause damage I believe BMW issued a Technical Bulletin on checking the Level sensor for your model Check the Internet or talk to a BMW Specialist or Dealer Dave

Although the car has a Full Service History has the gearbox actually been serviced ? Remember BMW themselves used to tell people that the Gearbox is sealed for life !!!! ZF who make the box actually say service at 60 to 100k depending on use and climate Dave
-
Morning Paul Ouch Has a diagnostic scan been carried out, a neighbours wife broke down AA arrived ran a scan told her Gearbox has gone. Her car was recovered to our local BMW specialist who rang her and told Gearbox is fine Diff has failed ??? So first who diagnosed the issue if it was an Auto Gearbox specialist then OK If the diagnosis is correct then consider that your Gearbox is 13 years old (how many miles ?) has it ever been serviced ? The repair will give a fully serviced gearbox with all software updated, a Gearbox service alone will cost around £6 to £700. Also if you like the car £2500 is probably cheaper than buying replacement. Dave

RECENTLY PURCHASED BMW 1 SERIES PROBLEM WITH SPARE KEY
Greydog replied to Velink's topic in New Members Welcome
That is definitely not the key for that car then, I would guess that someone has mixed up 2 sets of keys I would guess your BMW Dealer would charge about £150 (that is a guess) so check with them, at least you have a working key so can use the car while saving your hard earned cash. That is unless the seller says woops and has the other. Good Luck Dave -
BMW E53 X5 Type 87 20" Wheels and Tyres in very good usable condition no cracks welds or buckles Tyres are almost new Front 285x40x20 Rear 315x35x20 these will fit any E53 not suitable for E70 models £500

Morning Charles Refurb costs will be dictated by the amount of work needed to get them in a good state, so get at least 3 prices with itemised work to be done. I brought a spare set for my E53 4.6is which I use as winter wheels. Dave

Morning Mark If you have hands free through car play have you cleared the phones connection to the OEM bluetooth? First I would go back over the install just to be sure then try the Battery reset Happy to meet halfway sometime to see if I can help if that doesn't do the trick Dave PS. When disconnecting the battery Neg first reconnecting Neg last

Morning Dan Welcome to the Forum You could first check one of the Vin De-coder websites to check what was ordered on the original build sheet or if you brought from a BMW Dealer ask them why Enjoy your new Beemer Dave

RECENTLY PURCHASED BMW 1 SERIES PROBLEM WITH SPARE KEY
Greydog replied to Velink's topic in New Members Welcome
Morning Velin Welcome to the Forum If the key blade is a different pattern and doesn't work then it's highly possible that either the previous owner brought a cheap replacement just to sell with 2 keys. Or he had 2x1 series cars and now has another keyset just like yours 😅 As Stu says try re-programming the Fob that may work the final solution is BMW for another key £££. As an aside my E53 (2003) is still operating on the original OEM keys both work, my E70 (2009) has had 2 battery changes Dave -
Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum I had read about Carplay plug in's giving issues but had never seen it until I was offered my current E70 3.0d very cheap the Guy who owned it had tried and tried to fix it spent more money than he wanted to. He took it to a BMW Dealer who sucked their teeth and told him he may have to replace the whole system !!! That did it he sold the car advertised for a silly low price, I brought it unplugged the carplay box reset the car then fitted an Erisin Android screen a £300 Ebay special 🤣 My plan was if it worked great, sell it for a profit (I still have my X5 E53 4'6is) in fact it looks far better than the OEM screen (more modern) it has a a huge amount of Apps built in including Carplay, Android Auto and much more better Sat Nav choice etc etc Plus it worked straight out of the box retains all the OEM functions as well as adding all the Android stuff all operated from the OEM controller. I kept the car still driving it and the 4.6is is in store comes out on special occasions So have you tried disconnecting the battery for 15mins or so a Dealer reset trick, it will sometimes trigger warnings which will reset themselves. Have you removed the OEM Bluetooth unit? With luck there will be a member on here close to you who has software that can help if not I am in West Sussex Dave
