  1. Morning Abi As I understand the ULEZ regulations vehicles need to meet Euro Emission levels Motorcycles that are Euro 3 or higher comply Petrol Vehicles that are Euro 4 or higher Diesel Vehicles that are Euro 6 Confusing the issue are reports that vehicles need to be manufactured/registered in certain years BMW were using Euro 6 compliant engines as far back as 2012 in the 1 series and 3 series cars Are you thinking of buying one or do you need confirmation that yours complies Dave
  2. Morning So your mechanic was almost right 😅 Tyre sizes are critical when the car is 4x4 as then incorrect sizes will put strain on the transfer case (expensive) but as yours is rear drive as long as the tyres are in reasonable condition and all four wearing evenly then change to the correct sizes when wear dictates. Unless you are fussy about these things of course Enjoy Dave
  3. 👍 Very Nice ENJOY Dave
  4. Hi Malcolm Welcome to the Forum I believe if your tyres are on 17" rims they should be 205x50x17 Front and Rear some were fitted with 225x45x17 all round depending on Tyre supplier. If they are 18" rims they will 7 1/2J Front Front and 8 1/2J Rear so Tyre size would be 215x40x18 Front 245x35x18 Rear Hope this helps Dave
  5. Well ?? Come on Matt did you love it or hate it Dave
  6. Morning Matt As with any second user car History History History not just Service but Recalls and MOT MOT will show if any advisories have been attended to Then make sure that everything works as it should make sure the Deal includes a good Warranty. If all is good then part with your hard earned and enjoy your BEEMER Dave
  7. Wind in the hair (or not in my case 😂) ENJOY Dave
  8. Morning Colin ZF who make the box recommend Servicing the box between 80k to 100k kilometres depending on use. So if it hasn't been done yours is well overdue as for price I would think that the service kit and fluid would be between £150 and £300 (the higher being ZF) then add a couple of hours labour £500 isn't so bad Just serviced my own X5 3.0d using Genuine ZF service parts cost for the kit was £320 I also changed the Fluid in the Transfer case and Front and Rear Diffs 4 litres at £25 per litre Dave
  9. Morning Colin Depending on which engine your X1 has it may well be turbo charged that should do it Dave
  10. Morning Ian Could it be anything to do with a warning system ? Lane departure or some other warning I have no clue as my X5 doesn't have that fancy stuff being older (2009) Dave
  11. Morning Ciaran Gig you not check on www.realoem.com ?? A quick look at realoem tells me 3 door and 5 door are different part numbers didn't check LCI I think the part number for your car may be 51778056815 but you need to check or speak to a body shop or you could be throwing your money away Dave
  12. Morning Tracy Welcome to the Forum Very nice looking car ENJOY I am sure you will love it Dave
  13. Morning Malcolm Welcome to the Forum Yes you will definitely find the Z4 stiffer than the Lexus 🤣 Once you have adjusted you will love it I am sure. Not far away in Sussex I think the roads were ploughed by the same people who did yours 🤣🤣 ENJOY Dave
  14. Glad to know I am not the only one needing 2 pairs of glasses at times Great find and fix Dave
  15. Hi Roger First your test if you disconnect the Neg lead and put a test lamp between the Neg lead and the battery the circuit is complete, an ammeter is a far better indication of what's going on. Better still would be a Diagnostic session with BMW ISTA/INPA there are 10 or 20 Control Modules (depending on build spec) all sharing information over a Bus system. A few can be a big problem if they start refusing to talk to the others if a scan is done these Modules will seen as Green, OK. Amber, Partial comms Red No comms Often fixing one will open the system up again. There are now several other BMW capable systems out there. The key not working could be something as simple as the Ignition switch needs changing or possibly the EWS Module. Fingers crossed it is the Ignition switch a fairly simple change if it is the EWS it will need syncing with other modules. So I would start with the Ignition Switch You should have a manual gear release cant remember if it is near the shift or if you have to get under the car Google should help Dave
  16. Morning Ciaran Welcome to the Forum If you aren't aware you can check on www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Then search the sections for what you need, when you have it double click the part number and it will provide a list of alternates if they are available. You can also cross reference the part number with other models Good Luck Dave
  17. Hi Tegan Welcome to the Forum My guess would be an issue with either the FCM (Footwell Control Module) or the Junction Box Module. To be sure you will need a diagnostic scan by someone or a Garage that has BMW capable software Autologic, Foxwell, i Carsoft or best BMW ISTA/INPA. There was a recall for the main power feed to the fuse box has that been done ? Worth checking. A BMW Dealer will tell you you need genuine new parts and only they can program them that is not so. Good Luck Dave
  18. OK if nothing is loose have you checked the prop shaft centre bearing they can be a pain? Dave
  19. Morning Roger A bit confused about your checking system here If I have read and understand it, you disconnected battery (one terminal) then placed a test lamp between the terminal and the battery. Effectively completing the circuit and reconnecting the battery? Then began pulling fuses I guess waiting for the test lamp to go out? My guess is your battery is discharged not fully charged and will need recharging when recharging make sure you do it from the charge points under the bonnet to avoid damaging components or remove the battery for charging. A healthy battery should show 12.8v minimum engine off 14.2 to 14.5v engine running. Are you sure it isn't a battery fault, how old is the battery? I may be teaching Granny here but. To test for a drain by pulling fuses first connect an ammeter (I prefer the clamp type) open the bonnet, passenger door and boot then let the car go to sleep (takes 15 min about) check the ammeter a very small drain Milly amps is needed to maintain memory for components. If the reading is in full amps start pulling fuses and if required relays until you find the offending circuit. I have had to work through the boot fuses and relays then stop and recharge the battery. Then start the process again for the cabin fuses then repeat for the Engine bay fuses and relays. Don't forget to check the Earth Points BMW like earth triggered switching so check resistance at each point. Took me a full day on a neighbours 7 series finally traced to the FCM which needed changing. Good Luck Dave
  20. Morning Terence Welcome to the Forum When checking the brakes did you check the handbrake shoes ? Other things to check, I have seen brake back plates rubbing and heat shields rubbing so check they are secure Check there is nothing touching the drive shafts and prop, if it is still there wheel bearings and Diff need checking Hope this helps Dave
  21. Morning Angus Welcome to the Forum Now you can spend a few hours getting your head around all the clever stuff then if your like me it will be, Climate Control 20deg all year round Radio 2, 4, 5 CD/Aux input, rarely used Bluetooth Phone Connection 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I guess it's like super fast Broadband with speeds that 90% of us don't need ENJOY Dave
  22. Great information rissa Welcome to the Forum Dave
  23. Morning Ole Welcome to the Forum Lovely classic BMW always willing to help if we can Dave
  24. Morning Joseph I use a section of bicycle brake cable outer which is easy to feed through tight spaces then tape the cable to it and pull it through, some times this has to be repeated in sections to get where you want to be. As that looks like a charging lead, personally i would have taken a fused spur from a 5 amp fuse in the fuse box that may have been easier and a shorter route. Dave
  25. Morning Mallory Welcome to the Forum As both cars are the same colour the interior becomes personal choice (as it was when the car was new) You say both cars have covered similar mileages I would be making sure that the service history's were spot on and that all accessories fitted worked as intended You obviously like cleaning your car so Black is the perfect colour for a man with a polishing kit 🤣 What ever you choose enjoy Dave
