No Simon, the last MOT looks clear no advisories so it appears that episode in the cars life is over. A BMW AUC vehicle is sold only by BMW Dealers. AUC stands for (Approved Used Car) will come with a BMW Warranty Check the Warranty being offered by Lookers on the 535d what does it cover? Last check the tyres on both cars you don't want to be buying a car and in 3 months or less forking out more hard earned for a new set of tyres make sure wear is even particularly the rear tyres. Good Luck Dave

Morning Simon The engine in both cars is the same 3.0 ltr straight 6 diesel the 530d has 250 +hp the 535d 300+hp both cars will return high 20's low 30's mpg around town and mid 40's on the Motorway. As with any car purchase History and Condition are everything (have you checked the MOT history on line repeated advisories can be a sign of an owner who didn't care) Are the cars at a BMW Main Dealer ? Are both cars BMW AUC cars ? Have you checked Road Tax and Insurance cost that may help with the decision also factor in at least 1 major service a year (not always needed but if its just oil you will save some money) My X5 E70 3.0d by comparison is used to pull a horse trailer in the summer and still returns mid 30's on the Motorway and mid 20's around town Hope you enjoy whichever you choose Dave

Morning Andrew You either need INPA or someone who understands INPA to scan the car. If they know what they are doing they can try re-syncing the EWS Shft F6 EWS -- Start value comparison and Shft F7 EWS CAS -- Start value comparison. Let it run. If all is OK they will re-sync and you should be able to start your car. If not Stu should be able to help he went through a lengthy saga with his X5 Check your battery just because it is only 3 years old doesnt mean its OK. Before doing any scan work or programming the battery must be in a fully charged condition. Good Luck with a finding a simple fix Dave
-
A fully charged battery should measure 12.8v I would charge it off the car, measure again after 24hrs if it is below 12.8v but above 12.5v you may be OK If you get measurements below 12.5v you will have a battery issue. Dave
-
Don't forget the fuse boxes in the boot and under the bonnet also those battery figures don't look good considering the engine was running. Even a new battery can die dig out the receipt you may need a new one Dave
-
Hi Richard Tried the specialist dismantlers ? Dave
-
Are you measuring the amperage drain with a Clamp type ammeter? Pulling fuses will isolate the circuit unless it is a fault with Footwell Control module or Junction Box control module There will always be a drain but after the car is asleep it should register in mili Amps once the car is asleep Dave

Morning Shaun Not an uncommon problem ECU Testing in Nottingham and BBA Reman in Kent have been fixing these for years Good Luck Dave

Morning Rod Unfortunately yes they can be I have read many cases over the years where only 6mm difference between front and rear tyres can cause issues with the transfer case. I would do the chalk mark test just to be sure Dave
-
Hi Rod The X3 I put a chalk mark at the bottom of the front and rear tyres and the road then rolled it forward one revolution until the rear tyre mark was at the bottom again the front was around 20mm away so over a few miles ?? The variation is not just between brands even between batches and new and worn tyres. BMW and Mercedes tend to fit Staggered wheel sets (wider rear) and have deals with their chosen tyre suppliers who supply * rated tyres that are very close in rolling radius. I have a very helpful Tyre Dealer locally who is prepared to put sets together 275x40x20 fronts and 315x35x20 and check them side by side. Current set on my E70 are Accura and 5k in no issues. Range Rover tend to use same size rims front and rear and there seems less issues with this set up Dave PS. If it is tyre related make sure thats sorted first or your Transfer case will be toast again

Morning Reece Welcome to the Forum Unless you can find a real collector with a need for your car I am afraid you will be disappointed with any valuations. As an example I own a 2003 BMW E53 X5 4.6is just over 800 registered in the UK now around 190 left which makes it rare. At the Goodwood members meeting last year I was offered £6k by an enthusiast who knew what it was and turned it down WeBuyAnyCar offered £750 so that's the sort of gulf you will find. My solution was take it off the road and keep it for sunny days and weekends and buy an E70 as a daily driver. Who knows at Goodwood next year ?? Good Luck with finding the right buyer Dave Dave

20k is a big investment particularly when you consider that an older car will require more maintenance. Suspension bushes deteriorate just with age as do all rubber components all worth considering. Unless it is your dream car and your going to keep it years. I did read some years back where someone rang the dealer and asked what the trade in value would be for a car with similar spec to the one in their showroom (they didn't know he had seen the car) almost 5k less was the indication of price, makes you think Dave

Anyone got a 545e M Sport?
Greydog replied to Andy M car lover's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Andy Welcome to the Forum The M cars will always have a harsher ride but apart from that it's the Grunt that is addictive. I have owned performance/tuned cars since the 1960's, current 2 x X5. My daily drive an E70 Diesel with 280+ hp and my E53 4.6is with Dinan upgrades 400+ hp. My wife's car is a Subaru Outback with a Perrin engine 400+ hp. This year see's my big 80 so I guess we are proof that getting older doesn't mean you have to grow up 🤣 I hope you find what your looking for Dave- 1 reply

Morning Simon Welcome to the Forum My local Dealer has a 2019 530e at £21000 with 66k on the clock so even though it is low miles it seems a bit of a premium price for a 9 year old car Have you checked Parkers website to get a feel for prices Good Luck with the hunt Dave Some of the Aldi's are nice cars I hear 🤣

Replacement or Repair the Transfer Case fluid is worth checking first. (if topping up make sure it is right for your case) Also check the Actuator on the side of the transfer case (looks like a windscreen wiper motor) the nylon gears are a common fail and easy change. Like just about all 4 wheel drives incorrect tyres can cause Transfer case damage by transmission wind up really quickly. I have seen an X3 with transfer case issues a week after after the front tyres were changed due to odd wear. The rolling radius front to rear was just to much Dave

Friends in the right place always helps 😁 He was our was our neighbour for quite a while. Getting information sometimes is like the proverbial Blood from a Stone 😂 BMW tend to guard their secrets jealously With my X5 Inpa/Ista showed the failed sensors straight away so not an issue (other than getting the tyres removed to fit them that is !!) Hope Bimmerlink helps you sort it Dave

Hi George Welcome to the Forum I also had an original Mini started life as a 1098 Cooper but the old A series engines used to wear quickly so got my hands on a 1275 block a Gordon Allan offset ground crank balanced and Nitrided. The Block was offset bored and pistons from a triumph 1500 with the skirts turned down fitted with 1275 conrods balanced and lightened. The head was polished and ported and fitted with first 1 1/2" SU's then a 30 DCOE Webber Brakes were Disc's Front Rear drums and it still didn't stop 🤣 The rear disc's on my X5 are bigger than the wheel rims on the Mini 🤣 When you think a current mini is more than twice the size of the original, Progress Dave

1.6 N47 Glow Plugs - How to know which are correct ones?
Greydog replied to Grigsi's topic in 2001 Onwards Mini Forum
Morning George I use www.realoem.com it is a BMW online parts list Dealer level, put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box it will bring up your model. Then search the engine electrical system section and get the correct part number. Then use google to find the best price don't dismiss your Dealer they often come up competitive. A tip I have learnt the hard way if your changing Glow plugs on 1 series and X5's prepare first soak them in penetration fluid for a few days change all 4 and the controller (I have had to redo it on two separate occasions to change the control unit !!! Thats your weekend taken care of 🤣 Good Luck Dave -
👍👍 Fingers crossed, after thought has the transfer box been checked? Dave
-
Hi Scott Welcome to the Forum Over the years there have been quite a few posts on several Forums documenting these incidents personally I don't see how BMW can wash their hands of this. On my 3rd X5 and none of mine have had Sun Roofs by choice due to the issues with their operation in the E53 Good luck in getting a sensible conclusion (ie They replace under warranty) perhaps a case for Rogue Traders ? Dave These incidents

Hi John A friend in BMW has told me that early 2014 (Spring) the TPS sensors changed and cause issues with pre Spring control modules ?? So what month of manufacture for your car may give some clues Dave As an aside I was having TPS problems last year (2 failed) I brought a new set of wheel sensors from Amazon at less than half BMW cost and they work fine
-
Morning Skevos Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the Search box it will bring up your model then look in the engine sections for the sensors. It will give a small exploded drawing showing where things fit and how, plus you will get the correct part numbers for getting replacements. Also worth looking at www.pelicanparts.com they have some great "How Too's" with pictures Good Luck Dave
