Morning Skevos P12BA is a Generic code which points towards the inlet manifold, so check carefully for any air leaks split hoses and gaskets. It could be the pressure sensor or MAF. A scan with a BMW capable diagnostic program would tell much more. Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it should bring up your Model then search the engine section. There are small exploded drawings that will help identify parts and where they are. Dave

Morning Paul I have seen split Filter housing's on an E46 and E53 almost identical to your pictures, both cars had dripping heavy oil leaks. Neither had anything as catastrophic as you had. The guy with the E53 had managed to paint the engine bay with Castrol though where the fan had thrown it around. Good result on the save matey Dave

Hi Dan White smoke is normally fuel or water vapour but I have seen one where a leaky brake master cylinder was was letting fluid into the servo worth a check Fuel Pressure checked? When was the fuel filter last changed (if ever)? Mass air Flow meter? Any chafing or pinch marks on the engine loom Thinking out loud Dave

Hi Craig Welcome to the Forum If you don't know about the oily bits either get a Mechanic to inspect it with you or an AA/RAC inspection Buying from a Dealer will give more protection though don't dismiss Private sales. History with proof of work carried out is paramount everything should work as it should. There are no cheap fixes don't fall for the " Never bothered me that it didn't work and they are only £xx on Ebay" Ask yourself if it was that easy why leave it? Ride should be good no rattles clunks or bangs, Engine should have no rattles or knocks and gear changes smooth Good Luck Dave

Morning Tracey Welcome to the Forum To run your engine needs Air, Fuel, Compression and if petrol a spark. So the fuel pump and its controlling relay and fuses need checking fuel delivery/testing. As does the whole delivery from the tank to the engine, fuel pressure needs checking at the fuel rail. The fact it happened so fast I would suspect a Fuse or Relay possibly a Crank sensor or fuel pressure sensor To save a lot of time a Diagnostic session using a BMW capable scanner would help pinpoint te issue Dave

Morning Richard If it meets LLO4 specs you will be fine I am sure after all Penzoil are a well known name in competition and as a commercial supplier of lubricants (just not in the UK) In the 90's when car manufacturers started quoting extended service intervals is when the obsession with oil began. By telling those innocent car buyers who believe the hype that oil changes at 30k intervals are fine. After all they really don't care once the car is out of warranty they wash their hands. Remember BMW also keep telling owners Gearboxes are sealed for life?? Then sell service kits and Fluid when the ZF say fluid changes every 60 to 80k depending on use. What BMW are saying is "life" is the end of their warranty responsibility and they are not alone VW/Audi Mercedes As said I change oil every 5k (around a year for me these days) gearbox service as ZF schedule Dave

Morning Richard I would talk to Pennzoil they should be able to advise on the oil specs. Personally I use either Mobil or Castrol fully synthetic oils and have done since the mid 80's, I also ignore the extended service intervals and change oil at 5k intervals. You should find information on Oil spec in your hand book normally as long as it meets LL04 BMW spec it should be OK the newer specs also protect (or so I am told) DPF/PPF life on the new cars Dave

Morning Matthew Welcome tot the Forum You can check one of the online Vin De-Coders which will give you a Build sheet for your car, that is important in case the Original buyer may have ordered something different to standard. Look for a code like S609A which is the Professional Navigation/Radio Once you know what you have then you know what maps to purchase obviously OEM will be best but expensive from a Dealer, there are others out there supplying non OEM maps and codes not tried them myself.
