  1. Morning Phil Check www.realoem.com it is an online BMW Parts List as used by dealers. Put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your Model. Then search the sections for the items you are looking for (both your posts) the small exploded drawings will help with where stuff is located. Dave
  2. Morning Paul BMW UK Customer Services would seem to be the logical place, but what use they will be I don't know. As with several other parts failures BMW tend to retain the damaged part so they are the only ones who have any evidence of number of failures and cause. My guess would be they will quote X thousand units in service with no known issues ? In the USA there are several organisations who will take up the cause so all Manufacturers are faster with Recalls and supported replacement while in Europe we are fobbed off with "No knowledge of this being an issue" some times a "Good Will" payment but not often. Keep at it Dave
  3. Morning Jack I am aware that in the early mid 2000's the N47 engines had a number of Timing chain and lift pump issues but by 2010 BMW seem to have overcome them. I have not read of any oil pump failures though. Service history is going to be critical as part of your evidence not just "was it serviced" but was the service on time. A Forensic report on failure causes will not be cheap I fear. Good Luck Dave
  4. Morning Andrew Have you checked Realoem for the position of fixings ? Dave
  5. Morning Kashif So if you touch the screen Off the Icons you should move to the original BMW menu That's how mine works, also if I push and hold the Menu button on the rotary controller Dave
  6. Morning Jack Welcome to the Forum A little more information, what engine is it Petrol/Diesel 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 3.0. How many miles has it covered ? How long have you owned the car ? I have read of Timing chain issues and Diesel lift pump issues but yours is a first for me. Any Idea what caused the oil pump to fail? Good luck with your Finance Company Dave
  7. Morning Kashif Welcome to the Forum Seems you have double posted I have offered an answer in your other post Dave
  8. Morning Kashif I have an Erisin system in my E70 which looks very similar, I can use the Menu button to toggle between systems or touch the screen (off the Icons) in either system to switch between them I would think yours should be similar Dave
  9. Morning Phil Welcome to the Forum First when the battery was recharged did you charge using the charge points in the engine bay or at the battery? If you charged at the battery it could cause damage to control units. If it was charged at the charging pints try disconnecting the battery (Neg first) and leave it for 15 mins then re=connect it may help reset everything. From your description it would seem the climate control unit is not doing it's job, start with a check of all fuses, can you adjust temp/ fan speed etc at the climate control unit? Pop the unit out and clean the connections and reconnect if that does nothing then a diagnostic scan will tell what the issue is. Hope this helps Dave
  10. Thanks for the update Paul, never heard of that before and I have fixed a few oil leaks over the years. I have seen Oil filter put back without a sealing O ring, Split oil cooler, Split oil pipes, I have even see a situation where the old oil filter had broken up and the new filter forced in on top of the remains. Good Luck with BMW Dave
  11. Morning Norman Welcome to the Forum That is a first, I don't think I have ever heard of "Bike Carrier Prepared" before !! All the bike carriers I have seen mount on the Tow Bar and use the tow bar electrics. Most Tow bar fitting companies will have a dedicated wiring kit that makes it pretty much plug and play I know both Witter and Westfalia do check their websites and agents. Hope this helps Dave Westfalia are BMW OEM suppliers
  12. Afternoon Martin Welcome to the Forum Oh dear you fell into that one "Yeah you can get them on Ebay just a few Quid easy fix" well ask yourself if it was why hadn't he done it? Fingers crossed it doesn't prove to be more complicated or costly, normally the Drivers door window switch module is the Master if it has failed then the passenger widow won't work either. Logic says as they operate on the Fob then they are OK. The FCM (Footwell Control Module) controls many functions. A diagnostic scan by someone with a BMW capable system will tell more. Good Luck Dave
  13. Morning Dave If the unit is repaired it should not need programming the only time it needs programming is if the stored mileage/chassis details are different to those stored in the Binnacle or IKE. If you swap the unit everything will work all you will have is the little tamper dot by the mileage covered. Never had one of these repaired but Companies like BBA Reman or ECU Testing may help Disappointed for you with your BMW specialist so if he fitted a New Part he has to program it to the car is he saying he can't do that?? The process is the same, when the replacement unit is fitted it it will show the details Chassis Number Mileage of the donor car a New Unit will be blank if left blank the tamper dot will show. So first note the mileage covered by your car, delete the donor cars Chassis/Mileage and enter yours or if New just enter your information. Dave
  14. Morning Mike You will find it in the trim section just scroll down till you see it As for the fixings Plastic Clips tend to be specific so BMW or Ebay for then but trim screws etc I get the size then call BMW parts a Local Fasteners Company and again Ebay for the best price/availability after all BMW don't make them just buy them in. On some of the suspension Bolts BMW use a specific thread pitch so finding them can be a faff Dave
  15. Morning David I have changed a couple of these it actually takes longer to swap the units than reprogram them so your BMW man should be able to do it for you Dave
  16. Morning Michael Take a look at www.realoem.com it is a BMW online parts list either search the sections manually or put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Look in the body section I would think it will give you a list of all the fixings and where they go Dave
  17. Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum I have read several reports over the years where owners have fitted After Market wheels and suffered cracks and splits. That is across several models and 20+ years the fact they are the same size and fit doesn't mean they are suitable for purpose. In your case the wheels may be lighter construction than the OEM wheels, OK for track use but everyday driving pot holes speed bumps etc on low profile tyres is to much for them. I don't know if BBA or Alpina did wheels for the 6 series (not a two door man no where for the dogs) they won't be cheap though. Dave As an after thought have you checked www.realoem.com to see what wheels/styles where available for your car
  18. Morning David Welcome to the Forum I fear that the jump starting at the Battery may have caused damage to at least 1 of the control units or relays. Check carefully in the boot at the battery connections I have seen a situation where the small lead lead at the live connection became damaged/dislodged by putting jump leads on. The symptoms described seem the same as a failed or failing Footwell Control Module (FCM) a failing FCM can also prevent the car going to sleep causing battery drain. The only way to be sure is with a diagnostic scan. BMW will tell you they are the ONLY ones who can change it !!! This is because if it is changed the replacement needs programming to the car BMW store mileage/chassis details in 2 places if they don't match you will get a tamper dot next to the mileage on the dash. How ever anyone with INPA/ISTA or now several other BMW capable systems can also do it. It needs the replacement FCM having it's original Mileage/Chassis details reset with those from the car it is being installed in. Dave
  19. Morning Malcolm Looking at Realoem you have 360mm discs already the M135i uses the same size discs? Unless your 118i does not have Msport brakes? There are big brake kits out there but check carefully that your wheels will clear the calliper's before fitting them Good Luck Dave
  20. Morning Malcolm Welcome to the Forum I am not sure but if you already have M-sport brakes they are the same size check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your VIN into the search box it will call up your model then check the brake section for sizes and part numbers, then repeat for the M135i Dave
  21. Morning Ian Welcome to the Forum Petrol or Diesel ? 3.0i 3.0iX, 4.0i 4.0iX or th big boy M50ix ? 3.0dX or the other big boy M50dX? At 21400 miles it would probably be a sensor issue but a scan by someone with a BMW diagnostic scanner would confirm that, or someone capable of testing the sensor with a multi heater Hope this helps Dave
  22. Morning Paul Wow that's a bit of a mess, the fact it went so quickly my thoughts are Oil Cooler pipe split, Remote Oil Filter feed/return pipe off or loose, Sump plug lost ? Good luck hope it is a relatively simple fix and that there is no other damage Dave
  23. Morning Richard The Gearbox has very little braking effect in normal driving there are hill descent settings which give some braking and even change down a gear but from memory (dangerous) that only kicks in at speeds below 30mph Or are you talking about the emergency braking system fitted to some models with cameras? Dave
  24. Greydog

    Hello!

Morning Louis Welcome to the Forum Very Tasty Enjoy your Beemer Dave
  25. That's good news Wayne if it's OK that means you may have an opportunity to get the original repaired with no pressure. Fingers crossed for you Dave
