  1. Very nice John Welcome to the Forum Only one thing to say ENJOY Dave
  2. Morning Carl Then I would definitely talk to ECU Testing, BBA Reman I know they give a very fast turn around and normally if they can't repair it then no charge. I have used both companies for Control unit repairs on Volvo Mercedes and Ford over the years and found either to be quick and efficient. If they can repair your ECU the advantage, is you can plug it back in without any re-programming issues. You have checked the Injector at No1 also a compression check. I had the DME fail on my X5 E53 4.6is it couldn't be repaired, I brought a DME with matching EWS Drivers door lock and Ignition barrel and Keys fitted them and re-programmed the DME to my chassis (not necessary but keeps things tidy in my engineer's head) Dave
  3. Morning Carl A diagnostic read is the real answer to give a better feel for what is happening. If you like to be able to fix stuff yourself, it is worth investing in a Copy of BMW 1.4.0 it will give Dealer level access and all faults are explained in English Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model. Then search for what you need by way of part numbers Changing the ECU isn't just plug and play I believe you need the DME EWS driver's door lock and keys and then some programming to You could talk to repairers like ECU Testing or BBA Reman if you can get your tested and repaired you shouldn't need to change the other stuff. Good Luck Dave
  4. Morning Mike As far as I know modern run flat tyres don't need special rims A good tyre company should be able to advise whether they are available as run flat in your size. I think most manufacturers recommend that the car has a working Tyre Pressure monitoring system before they are fitted Good Luck with the hunt Dave
  5. Morning Cad Check very carefully the Loom from the DME to the coil pack for any sign of wear chaffing cracks or breaks also check the Injector loom the same would be where I would start Good Luck Dave
  6. Morning Mark Welcome to the Forum Not good news at all For what it is worth the Diff failures I have seen have all been on Xdrive cars and most common cause incorrect tyres were the cause. But I am not a garage just an amateur old bloke with a very well-equipped toolbox and a nearly 60 year passion for cars.First gather as much information as you can from the internet to find if it is a "Known" fault also check the Sale of Goods Act as you may have more protection than you or the Garage think particularly if it can be argued the fault existed at sale. 5 months is not very long, and Diffs normally give warning. If the Diff is noisy then clearly it needs changing another diagnosis won't change anything My first thought would be a Used Diff from one of the BMW Specialist dismantlers check www.realoem.com for the correct part number then search for the part. To have your diff removed by a Garage and a replacement fitted (not a BMW Dealer) would be about 3 hours work and you would be mobile cost I would think around £500 to £600 including the diff. If you can DIY then just the cost of the Diff plus new Diff Oil, when I did this on a friends X3 the Diff cost £240 from Quarry Motors (a new Diff from BMW £900+) You could still pursue your claim against the Selling Garage just make sure you have plenty of Photo/Video evidence of work carried out and damage to the original diff. Good Luck Dave
  7. Hi Sam Welcome to the Forum With most other marques it only engages if the car rolls back, but Reverse isn't engaged but BMW engineers seem to have excelled in over complication 😂 Dave
  8. Morning Gary Glad your sorted Just about all main Dealers for any make of car have hourly rates around £200 these days (someone has to pay for the free coffee 🤣) so add their profit on the part and VAT As you have discovered it is worth doing a bit of research and learning how to DIY saves a fortune in the long run Good Luck Enjoy your car Dave
  9. Morning Hunter You need the help of a transmission specialist: preferably a ZF Agent your problem could be that a transmission service is due/overdue. Low transmission fluid levels, failed or failing solenoids in the box a specialist will be able to give far more information Dave
  10. Morning Jason Welcome to the Forum Oh dear seems you are a victim of the car scammers They have probably unplugged a sensor, a small amount of oil tipped into the header tank then tell you "Head Gasket is gone" "engine Warning light" we will offer half or less and still take it !!! If you can't DIY you need a proper mechanic or a garage to help. Coolant needs flushing and replacing clean up the oil, a Diagnostic check will show which sensor has been tampered with. Lesson learned only one person around the car with you watching if they won't do that NO SALE or trade the car in or use one of the car buying groups you may get a little less but zero stress Good Luck sorting it and finding a genuine sale Dave
  11. Morning Aaron Welcome to the Forum Never seen that before in the E53 the video signal comes from the Nav Unit with a default screen (Blue) with limited menu options that comes from the TV unit (even if it is still analogue) So a few thoughts has work been carried out in the Boot? The left-hand cubby houses the CD unit the Nav unit Bluetooth etc. Your radio (BM54) and TV module live under the spare wheel I have seen a Nav unit bricked by someone putting a Film DVD into it thinking they could watch a film as the Unit has DVD on the front. But in that case, it simply reverted to the Blue screen. All communication with the Headunit comes from the BM54 Radio which has a fuse under the main quadloc connector if that is OK then unplug the Nav unit see if that makes a difference. Also if any extras have been connected unplug them The last step would be a diagnostic scan using BMW 1.4.0 or INPA/ISTA as they will read the Infotainment system Dave
  12. Morning Alber6 Welcome to the Forum Try looking at www.realoem.com it is a BMW online parts list (same as Dealers use) put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your Model. Then search the sections for what you need, that way you are sure you will have the correct part number. Dave
  13. Morning Don Welcome to the Forum BMW will advise a change before the Legal limit on wear is reached (often around 3mm) for a number of reasons not least safety. Tyre brands wear at differing rates so around 20k could be correct, if you haven't checked them yourself, or can't, get an independent check done to be sure. Different tyre brands use different compounds so wear at differing rates I have gone through a set of tyres in a little over 15k and had another set last almost 30k weather, driving style and maintenance, how often are pressures checked is there any uneven wear? Dave
  14. Morning Duncan Have you removed the fuses and checked them or visually inspected them? Is there power at the compressor? What information is the car giving you through the On Board Diagnostics? Check the level sensors are OK not sticking the knee joint should be pointing towards the wheel I have seen where the suspension has been fully or overextended, they fold the wrong way, so nothing works If Fuses Relay sensors and controller are OK then the compressor may have failed. A Diagnostic session will tell you for sure Dave
  15. Morning Gary Welcome to the Forum A bit confused about which Model is your car an M5 550dx Touring (lucky boy if it is) or one of the other models with M-tech accessories like say a 530d M-tech. As far as Battery is concerned the main Battery should be either 92ah or 105ah AGM (under the floor in the boot) and will need registering to your chassis to ensure correct charging. Just to confuse the innocent your car may have an additional battery under the Bonnet for the Aux heating and suspension which could be either AGM or Lithium the AGM should be 60ah (I think) not sure about the Lithium, again I believe these batteries need registering to the chassis. Hope this helps not hinders Dave
  16. Morning Duncan Great choice of X5 here's to 😁 SMILES of happy motoring Dave
  17. Morning Aziz Welcome to the Forum As Stu says a Diagnostic Session is needed to point you in the right direction. Find a local BMW specialist or a Good Independent Garage who has the correct BMW capable scanning equipment. Good Luck Dave
  18. Morning As a precaution et the starter motor checked BMW used Magneti starter motors mid 90's to early 2000;s and there were a number of issues, also check the engine earth straps. If the car was jumped from the battery direct it could have caused damage to the LCM (light control module) and or your climate control module. As said earlier if you have an old laptop running Windows 7 or 8 buy a copy of BMW 1.4.0 and load it onto the laptop. It will give Dealer level diagnostics and access for coding/changing stuff it really isn't complicated, and if you need a guy for some of the grubby bits you will at least know more than him about your car 😅 My daughter services her own Horse Lorry only uses the mechanic for specific jobs, it drives him insane that a skinny little girl actually knows more than him 😂 So Go Girl we are here if you need help Dave
  19. Morning Julian Welcome to the Forum The X5 F15 in the year range your considering came with 3.0d, 3.5d, 4.0d and M50d all models based on the 3.0 straight six diesel with variations in turbo's and ECU tuning (plus a lot of other stuff of course) X5's can be addictive (I have 2) my X5 E53 4.6is is in store now to help preserve it, my X5 E70 3.0d is driven everyday around town/short journeys it returns mid/high 20's on a run early 40's on a visit to our daughter in the midlands towing the horse trailer it returned 37mpg So the F15 in any flavour will be a nice place to be, as with any used car History History History is vital. For support try Andy Walker at Walker's Autotech in Wisborough Green very knowledgeable and reasonably priced he may even be able to help source something for you. Also The German Car Company just outside Horsham at Monks Gate on the A281 Good Luck with the Hunt Dave
  20. Ooop's 🤞 they aren't to harsh Dave
  21. Morning John I would look at www.realoem.com get part numbers for M parts exterior, bumpers splitters etc and interior parts seats and trim. Then search the aftermarket suppliers for any deals you can get. Once all the parts are collected, they will need prep and paint to make them pristine before fitting. Whether doing it that way will be any less expensive than going to BMW I have no idea, as you say you have brought a flagship Coupe so it's not going to have any cheap fixes. ENJOY Dave
  22. Morning Ali Welcome to the Forum Always a difficult question as depending on where you buy you can find I would guess prices from around £200 to over £1000 My advice would be to but the best quality you can for your budget. A friend of our son fitted AP adjustable coil overs to his 1 series last year cost was around £600 quality was very good and fitting straight forward, interesting replacing springs and shocks with OEM parts was around the same. So it depends on what you're trying to achieve a Track Day car a Lowered Look or just replacing OEM, good luck with the change Dave
  23. Morning Stu Well, that's a great buy 😄 your right not an M3, but a smiley wife is absolutely priceless 🤣 Right now, an increase in economy is a bonus too well spotted mate Dave
  24. Morning P Welcome to the Forum First make sure it doesn't smell of anti-freeze, have you lost any coolant lately? Check the membrane behind the door cards if it has been disturbed or damaged a surprising amount of water can get inside. I take the door card off and use a Talc Puffer around the bottom edges of the membrane then run the jet wash outside against the window seal you will see any run marks in the talc very quickly. I use a Heat gun on a low setting to soften the adhesive for repositioning if the membrane is torn either replace it (either buy one ££ or if you have a piece of clear plastic sheet or as one of my sons used on his pickup truck bubble wrap) or repair if you can (Gaffer tape 😁) Also make sure the drains in the Door bottoms are clear Good Luck finding the pesky leak Dave
  25. Morning Steve Have you checked on www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your vin into the search box it will bring up your model. Then you will be sure that the drawing is specific to your model, I think that is where the answer will be Dave
