  2. Morning Craig Pre-heat are the glow plugs and or the glow plug relay. If the mornings are cold that may be the issue but you need a Diagnostic scan to be sure. Have you tried starting in N not P just in case it is the inhibitor switch. Dave

  4. Hi Nigel Is it the reflectors or the plastic headlamp lens that is the issue? If it is the lens then there are cleaning and polishing kit's and products that may be worth trying first. Dave

  7. Morning Hilly Welcome to the Forum If you don't renew your subscription the service should just end. They may send a few "reminder messages" to try and get you to renew but £70 for what? How often have you used it ? If you are one of the folks who have Amazon Alexa in your ? Or have your phone configured as a digital key then you may miss it. I can sit in my drivers seat and push a button or two without moving so for me Alexa is redundant (Alexa is also hackable) Dave

Morning Nigel Welcome to the Forum# Very nice looking Compact If my old brain is not playing tricks with me the Headlamp units on your car can be dismantled and the reflectors replaced/cleaned Take a look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin number into the search box, it should bring up your model in the classic section. Then look in the lights section there should be a small exploded drawing with part numbers, once you hace the part numbers then you can Google the best source. Don't forget your local BMW Dealer they offer good discounts on Classic parts Good Luck with the search Dave

Hi Marc Welcome to the Forum Not sure what you are asking here Marc, I know you can get "Back Up with Top View" camera's "Lane Change Warning" and "Surround View" I believe all functions use the same camera. Fortunately it's not as straight forward as just changing the mirrors, as they will need coding to your car assuming the looms and other stuff are in place. BMW will either tell you impossible or will want several body parts as payment 😂 An interesting project I would begin with www.reaoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will cal up a parts list for your model the check the vehicle trim section to see if it was an option. In the parts list you will see some thing like S3AHA followed by Yes or No and a Part number in blue this is the part you will need to find. So assuming you don't want to donate a body part or two I would contact the specialist vehicle dismantlers, bet they will still be expensive but nowhere near BMW new cost. Plus you will need someone with ISTA/INPA who can then code them to your chassis, or buy a copy for yourself and mount it on a laptop Good Luck Dave

My X5 is running Brembo pas all round at the moment from memory I paid around £100 2 years ago for the full set and a Saturday morning changing them Brembo or EBC are excellent value I would check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box, it will bring up your model then search brakes for the part number. Once you have the part number Google is your friend for the best source Euro Car Parts have some good deals normally. Once changed bed them in gently over about 100 to 200 miles before you become the last of the late breakers Good Luck Dave
  12. Morning Michael I believe your front brakes are Msport twin pot calipers and are push back. Normally wind back type have inserts on the piston face to allow the tool to rotate them Dave

Morning Kevin Welcome to the Forum If oil is dripping from the exhaust then it has bypassed the combustion process as that much oil would have left a cloud like a special effect in a Harry Potter movie. If you can't investigate the leaks yourself you need the help of a Mechanic or Garage who can. As for a guess at what or where the leak is my vote is badly worn turbo, but whatever it is it needs addressing fast. As for DPF delete you are aware that next MOT you could have a fail ? Dave
  15. Morning Ed I am not familiar with the Foxwell scanners though I know of several people who use them. Does the Handbook give any help ? Thinking of history again what size memory does the Foxwell have ? I thought it would over write at each read, could be wrong though Dave
  16. For the price of a Relay I would change it as a precaution. Remember a good deal of those relays and fuses will be more than 37 years old, so maybe another project working your way through with contact cleaner 🤣 Don't forget the Earth points when cleaning and checking continuity. Dave
  17. Seems you have done your best for the car so at a loss as not seeing what is occurring makes all comment general rather than specific. I would make the point that my brother inlaw is now on his 5th 5 series touring 2 x 530d 2x 535d and the current 540d xDrive all his cars have run to 200k+ (he does a lot of travel in the EU) before trade in. The early cars had swirl flap and EGR issues. All cars are BMW serviced plus interim on my drive any signs of leaks we have addressed straight away. Good Luck Dave
  18. Seems you may have the narrowed it down but check the fuel pump relay as well as in my experience it is unusual for a pump to just die normally they mess about stopping and starting. Good luck Dave

Hi Paul Welcome to the Forum Sounds like you have a Project on your hands, at that time I believe BMW used both Bosch and Magneti Marelli Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box (your model should be in the Classic section. Then check the Fuel Supply foe your pump and allied stuff once you have the part number google it to find the best price and delivery Hope this helps Dave P.S If you double click the part number it should show a list of other models and alternates.
  20. Morning Bob My theory on oil leaks as well as other failures revolve around the extended service intervals that began to appear in the 90's. My guess is your car has a full history but on a low mileage car that could possibly mean almost 2 years between inspections? Clearly something small and simple to fix can escalate in that time 90% of leaks just require replacement of seals or gaskets or sometimes a pipe, I don't know what your Turbo leak is? oil or pressure but I would talk to a turbo specialist again it may be just a seal. If you are not able to fix these issues your self then find a good local garage or best a BMW specialist near you they will help at a more manageable cost than a BMW Main Agent. Talk to them about a prioritised program rather than try and do it all in one hit. Hope this helps Dave

  22. Hi David A Warranty like all insurance can be argued against, until you need it that is. A BMW backed Warranty would be honoured at ANY BMW dealer not just Sytner, however there are many other Warranty options out there worth exploring Dave

Hi Brian Welcome to the Forum As I recall (not done this on an X1 but should work) Sit in the car close the doors key in the ignition and start the engine to ensure there is no fluctuation with power. Window down release button, re-press the button and hold for 15 secs now window up hold the button until the window is fully up release the button now re-press the button and hold for 15 secs. Your windows should now be re-set That has worked for me in my X5, brother inlaws 5 series and a couple of 3 series so fingers and toes crossed Good luck Dave
  25. An absolute pleasure and I hope it works out in your favour. I would definitely be asking how they think such an early failure is acceptable and have they escalated the issue to BMW UK Just by chance I have today replaced the hand break actuator for one of my wife's friends X5 E70, she brought a complete new actuator mechanism online for £220 with 5 years warranty. The fiddliest part was routing the new cables all in with plenty of tea an coffee it took this old boy just over 4 hours in my home garage. I now have a stock of brownie points with my wife and a rather nice bottle of Red Good Luck Dave
