  1. Hi John Welcome to the Forum Before you do anything check the fuses in the boot make sure the fuses and relay are all good and seated properly There is a pneumatic distribution and control unit which is attached to the pump if the car has 4 wheel air suspension it can raise or lower to keep things on an even keel. Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model, then search the relevant section. There will be a small exploded drawing showing where stuff is and Part numbers to make sure if you are buying you get the right part. Then Google is your friend to find the part you need at the best price Dave
  2. Afternoon Steve Welcome to the Forum Not an uncommon problem with many cars with auto parking brakes Unfortunately BMW Technicians and Main Dealers (not just BMW) do not fix anything any more they just change parts and as you have discovered at a full retail cost? No discount for your 20 years of loyalty or the fact you have a low mileage 4 year old car ? Now to your issue clearly the Handbrake has failed in the Off position so here is something simple to try, check the fuse box in the boot (fuse 129 I think) check the fuse map folded in the side of the tray pull the fuse turn the ignition on and off clean the fuse and replace it. Ignition on engine start and see what happens, this actually cleared the fault on my brother inlaws 535d. If it is the actuator that has failed there are repair kits available on Amazon and Ebay for around £200. When the unit fails nine times out of ten it is the actuator gear (plastic) which strips there are as said upgraded replacements in metal and changing them is well with in most peoples DIY capabilities. There are also now a few Youtube Videos that could help. If you are not a DIY person then a BMW Specialist or Good Independent mechanic or garage should be able to get the repair kit and fix it at an hourly rate well below BMW's Good Luck Dave
  3. Morning Paul Well done you great idea plus if you want to you can buy a spare torch so that if you move the car on it's all OEM As for posting a link to another forum ask Trevor, I can't think of a reason not to if it helps others. For what it's worth I now think the Vanity Mirror light is a more elegant solution as all wiring is contained above the rear view mirror. Just took me 3 attempts but got it sorted on the 4th !! 🤣 Dave
  4. Morning Andrew Welcome to the Forum Oh Oh this is a well known and documented problem with the Pan Roofs. BMW solution is a complete new roof cassette which is very expensive. Fortunately there are several Youtube fixes and quite a few BMW Specialist Garages that can help if you cant DIY Dave
  5. Morning Kent Welcome to the Forum Sounds as though something is is wrong, did you buy the parts as a Kit for your car or buy individual parts? When you press the pedal does the clutch attempt to work? Is the release arm moving at all? The only way unfortunately is to back track through everything you have done (not what you want to hear) but if something is not fitted correctly or is not correct for your model ? So box out again by the sound of it Check out www.pelicanparts.com they have some great "how to's" with pictures that may help. It is an American site so steering wheel on the wrong side but all the rest is the same. Dave
  6. Morning Sam You say the engine spins on the starter does the oil light extinguish ? The smell of burnt oil could have been an oil leak onto the manifold or over heating, I assume the coolant levels are all OK. You say you added a Quart of oil just in case? What is the oil level was it low? An over full engine can be damaged as much as one with low oil. As a precaution I would change the oil and filter. The oil pressure sensor is easily accessed on the oil filter housing and cheap to replace. If you are able to run a diagnostic scan it will tell you where the issue is and save in changing parts unnecessarily, but plugs and coil packs will be suspect after an over heating incident. As your US based Pelican Parts could be a great help check their Website for "how to's" or give them a call Dave
  7. Hi Chris Welcome to the Forum A very difficult question to answer, the websites such as Autotrader will give you a feel for "Retail" prices Dealers and Auction sites will be much below that (in some cases £1000's.) Sadly to a dealer your car is not "cherished" it is just a well looked after Z4 so unless you can find a buyer who is as discerning as yourself I fear your expectations may not be met Dave
  8. Morning Tim Welcome to the Forum Very very tasty car If you haven't already got a diagnostic reader make sure that if you do buy one it is BMW compatible, some thing like iCarsoft, Foxwell or the best would be ISTA/INPA mounted on a Laptop which would give Dealer level diagnostics ENJOY your Beemer Dave
  9. Hi Dan Welcome to the Forum There is a company Cartronix check their web site they may help. Its also worth checking www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box, it will call up your model then check the audio section BMW used to do repair kits for several models maybe something there. Hope it helps Dave
  10. I changed my X5's battery 2 years ago when it started dying overnight, when I took it out it was the original battery 14years old !! Changed it for a Yusa AGM best deal availble at Halfords on a Sunday. Our son with the Toyota pickup his battery died a 5 years so you never can tell Often when people change batteries they will put a larger rated battery into the car thinking it will be better, but all that happens is the battery never achieves full charge. I would buy the rated battery type shown in realoem then I believe that the E83 X3's did not require battery registration. Dave
  11. Hi Graham A healthy Battery should be showing around 12.8v engine off and around 14v engine running. How old is your battery? It may be it just needs a good charge. Check realoem for battery details for your car if matching OEM it may not need registering Have you checked the loom for the Glow plugs, our son changed glow plugs twice on his Pick Up Truck then we found there was a chaffed cable in the loom. Worth a look Dave
  12. I always found it amusing that they put "Sport" seats to hold me in place in a big fat 4x4 like the X5 ?? Both my X5's have had the Sport seats I can understand them in the sportier saloons and Z cars but an X5 ? Yes the Comfort seats are not as "Hugging" lower side bolsters attached is a picture of a Comfort seat from a late model Fi5 X5, the other pictures are E53/70 style Comfort and Sport (all images from a well known auction site) I guess the issue is finding a replacement pair of front seats that match your existing leather and stitching, maybe worth talking to some of the specialist BMW recyclers as BMW will ask for an Arm and probably a Kidney Dave X5 F15 Comfort seat.odt E53 X5 Comf.odt E53 X5 Sport Seat.odt
  13. If you have the leg support you have Sport Seats just cant get over the thickness of the side bolsters I will take a picture of mine tomorrow
  14. Hi They look fat alright, in your seat controls do you have the circular bolter control? Round button 4 arrows for inflating/deflating the side bolsters and lumber support? Maybe look at BMW Vin Decoder to see what was ordered? Do you have a pull out knee support? If not they maybe the basic seats in which case you may not have adjustable side bolsters. Dave
  15. Morning Paul When we did this on my brother inlaws 5 touring I took power from the torch charging point in the glove box with its own inline fuse. No battery drain no issues in use moved it 4 times since. Latest car is a 540d x drive Touring we used the power feed to the visor courtesy lamp Hope this helps Dave
  16. Morning Nigel Welcome to the Forum Not sure what spec seats you have in your X4? X5's have Sport or Comfort seats dependent on the customer order, I would think your car is the same. My X5 has inflatable lumber support and side squabs in it's Sport seats so finding a comfortable setting is relatively easy, we often do journeys of 3hrs plus (damn traffic in the South) without any discomfort or both walking like C3po when we arrive. Sport seats are firmer than Comfort so maybe check what is fitted to yours, if it's Sport see if you can find a pair of Comfort seats for your car from one of the BMW specialist dismantlers. Dave
  17. Morning Clive Not had to do this job but I have read that common practice seems to be that flywheel and clutch are changed together. Did the original garage change the flywheel and clutch or just the clutch plate and pressure plate? Bit of a bummer for you, but if you have to spend the money better to know its all new Dave
  18. Morning Stewart Did they use the correct ZF fluid ? If it is a registered fault in the transmission controller but no warnings showing it could be a wiring fault perhaps? Check and clean the transmission connecting plug ? Other wise if it is driving and changing seamlessly as you say no clunks rattles or the dreaded lurch on slowing down then you may have to be brave and live with it for a while. Dave
  19. As said the programable LED drivers are not OEM, good luck with sorting it let us know how you get on Dave
  20. Morning Stewart When was the transmission last serviced ? Clear the codes and rescan to see what returns. You could try a tube of Dr Tranny one of the few additives that really work Dave
  21. Morning Mick Welcome to the Forum Very tasty car just one thing to say ENJOY 😁 Dave
  22. Morning Kelvin I think in the boot the fuse panel there will have a fuse location diagram folded up in the holder Most BMW's have fuses and relays behind the glove box and in the boot and a panel in the engine bay. All I can tell you is the X5 wiper fuse is 37 in the glove box panel there is also a relay (probably your issue) all you need is the 3ft long multi jointed fingers of a Bavarian Gnome that can grip like mole grips and it's simple 🤣 Check for the layout diagram in the boot Dave
  23. Morning Kelvin There is normally a manual/emergency release pull check your handbook for it's location Or you could try connecting a batery to the charging points under the bonnet see if it allows the central locking to work Dave
  24. Morning Timothy Welcome to the Forum X3 have their own section This is a new one though ? You seem to have moved everything you can from the original unit, not something silly like the actual bulb is it? I have read of none OEM LED drivers that are programable never seen or dealt with them though. Never used BMW E-sys are you sure the Halo's are programable? Keep us up to speed with how you get on Dave
  25. Yes just left it, went indoors for tea and a bacon butty. We made sure his battery was fully charged and had a charged one ready to hook up if needed Was your FSC once only ? If it was it could be an issue Dave
