Morning Phil I take it you mean Over Mats I asked a local Carpet Fitter if he could help, he used the BMW originals as a pattern and made me set of over mats for my over mats if that makes sense. I the boot I brought a Boot Liner (Dogs) which I put a piece of Vet Bed in, easy to wash and dries really quickly. Over the years our Carpet man has made three sets of over mats for me he always uses good quality Wilton carpet with taped edges. I give him plenty of warning as he uses off cuts to make up the over mats mine take a beating in the winter (muddy boots when out shooting) drivers in particular. Last time he made two drivers mats as there was enough off cut. Another plus is when I put a new set in you get that nice "new" small in the car Hope this helps Dave

Navigation greyed out, fsc codes required?
Greydog replied to Dom cole's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Morning Dom When checking the Build Sheet next to each item ordered/required for the cars assembly there will be a Code (yes BMW still don't want to tell you what was fitted) So as far as the codes there are two systems Business and High/Professional The code for Business navigation is S606A the code for High/Professional S609A To actually check the part that is fitted it will need removing and the part number checked As said Rusty has been developing work arounds and alternatives to BMW and Mercedes and Range Rover systems for a number of years now if he didn't get results he wouldn't have survived. If he is confident I would give it a go first, if it doesn't work I am sure he will give the technical support to get it all working (plus help from here if we can) Dave -
Morning Noel I have done this on X5 E53 and E70 models so at a guess your X1 would be similar It will require removing trim panels and lifting carpet to run cables from the boot to the front of the car. I followed the main loom route along the passenger side of the car, I found it easier to unbolt the passenger seat so I could tip it side to side and backwards (Note I didn't disconnect the seat but did disconnect the battery) I would rate the job as fiddly due to time and care needed when removeing trim panels but easily done on a Saturday morning. Check www.realoem.com for part numbers and dont dismiss BMW when buying kits the can be competitive sometimes. Good Luck Dave

Sounds like a BMW Main Dealer second opinion needed I think Dave

£1700 for what? Bosch high pressure pump around £600 (new) £50 to £100 (recycled) Fuel filter £20 (new) Bosch Tank pump £100 (new) £20 to £50 (recycled) which seems to point to around £1000 in labour plus VAT that's close to Main Dealer price As the whole thing could be a bit of a legal mire, I would first ask "what you paid for as the Warranty is not available" My personal route would be (DIY) but if you can't do that take the car to an Independent garage get the fuel Changed and fuel filter changed and test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. If it is OK the car should run fine. If the tank pump doesn't run (check and change) worst news would be the high pressure pump as well Best of luck getting it sorted Dave

Navigation greyed out, fsc codes required?

Some BMW Dealers get quite snooty and can be seriously unhelpful if they think someone has tried to bend their inhouse upgrade system. I have heard of claims by some dealers that "non approved software has damaged the car" needing complete replacement of all idrive components. While some "upgrades" may not work just like your computer they can be deleted and over written. It depends how much detective work you want to do? You could check one of the BMW Vin Decoder sites which would tell you what was on the cars build sheet regarding the Head unit/Nav system (Basic or High) then look at www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then look in the relevant section and check part numbers. Me I have to know (one of my sons calls me the Car Geek) It may be that the head unit has been upgraded (trim not replaced correctly) but the FSC for the Nav isn't recognised by your chassis so an update will fix it Good luck let us know how it pans out Dave -
Morning Mick First look at the other side of the equation, why would a garage fake the problem? A mechanical issue would be covered under warranty so the garage would be paid an issue such as wrong fuel wouldn't be covered obviously. Petrol in a diesel car is potentially damaging particularly to the low pressure and high pressure fuel pumps and in extreme cases accelerated engine wear this is because diesel has a lubricating effect. So assuming this was a one off occurrence, and not a complete tank used you may be lucky with a fuel drain, new fuel filter a flush to clean the lines and refill with Diesel. That's difficult particularly as you had filled up 17 days before? A receipt or Credit card statement proving that you put the correct fuel in would help. The next question has anyone else driven the car and could have put fuel in? The only thing left is the possibility of contaminated fuel at the filling station if that is the case you would expect more cases locally. There gave been a number of contaminated fuel cases in the last couple of years. Sorry if this raises more questions than answers Dave

Navigation greyed out, fsc codes required?
Greydog replied to Dom cole's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Hi Only done it once with my brother inlaws 535d touring which had a USB connection in the glove box. As soon as we plugged the USB in the screen asked for the FSC all straight forward after that. Some things to check if possible, do you know if the previous owner had changed anything (swapped the Nav unit) If they did the Nav unit may be coded to a different chassis number so first will need recoding to your chassis. You will need someone with ISTA/INPA for this. If the Nav is original it may just be that the previous owner has brought a second hand copy of a Nav upgrade with a 1 time code that had already been used. so the car doesn't recognise it (anti theft) Good luck Dave -
Morning You say the LPFP runs what pressure is it putting out (should be around 70psi) Also have the pressures been checked at the fuel rail? If they are OK change the fuel pump relay and the main power relay. Get the car scanned using ISTA/INPA it will give much more information on individual control units. Dave

Navigation greyed out, fsc codes required?
Greydog replied to Dom cole's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Hi Dom If the last owner started to update the nav without the FSC the update wouldn't activate. I believe yours should update from a usb. BMW dealers currently are over £200 per hour for labour plus their cost for the diagnostic and FSC so the prices can be scary. They can also be quite difficult if they think someone has actually had the audacity to update stuff. I would check out SatNav Updates web site and email Rusty he is very very knowledgeable and helpful. Hope you find a solution Dave -
Best check for a local specialist normally less than half BMW Dealers costs or a good Independent Garage Dave

Hi Richard Welcome to the Forum Check www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will call up your model. Then check the section you need for part numbers, then Google for best deals don't dismiss your BMW Dealer they often surprise with prices. Wear sensor is part of the Pad I thought?

Navigation greyed out, fsc codes required?
Greydog replied to Dom cole's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Morning Dom Welcome to the Forum I thought the FSC was required when updating Navigation Maps, there are several sources for either 1 time use FSC and Life time FSC. I would Google and talk to a few suppliers like Rusty at SatNav Upgrades I don't know how hands on you are ? If you are then investing in a Diagnostic Program such as ISTA/INPA to mount on a laptop or tablet will save you a fortune long term. Good Luck Dave -
Morning Amandal Welcome to the Forum Sorry to hear of your loss First can you hear a noise? Check Google there is a register of BMW Specialists so with luck there will be one close by. If not the Walker Automotive (Andy Walker) is near Billingshurst he is excellent and not overly expensive and would supply a courtesy car I am sure. Hope this helps Dave
-
Hi Graham I would get the part numbers from www.realoem.com then try all the specialist dismantlers. Also worth checking the 5 and 7 series cars internals were often the same Dave
-
Morning Kayne Welcome to the Forum Sounds like a nice find, price is difficult as you will need a collector to get the best reward for your effort. I would check the "how many are left" websites and BMW Classic register, then talk to a few of the Classic Auction specialists to see what sort of valuation they give. Hope that helps Dave

BMW 330d xDrive Luxury Line
Greydog replied to Rob Gregory's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Rob Welcome to the Forum My brother inlaw has rum a number of 530d engine variant's he is currently on his 5th a 540 xdrive, basically the same engine you have in all of them. His cars are brought new and all have exceeded 200k miles before being traded in for the next one all have been ECU tuned as he to travels a lot in Europe for business and likes to scare the odd Porsche driver. His cars are all Dealer serviced to maintain history warranty etc, but neither of us agree with modern extended service schedules so we carry out interim services oil filters every 5/6k don't forget the gearbox make sure that is serviced to ZF schedule fluid and filters and you should be fine. The rest is normal wear and tear stuff suspension bushes, brakes, tyres etc. His early cars had issues with swirl flaps an a few EGR problems which we fixed, but the last 535d covered over 200k without issue latest car has just passed 70k. carplay CarPlay issues, help?
Greydog replied to REPJ1969's topic in The Owners Club General Discussions
Morning Ronald Welcome to the Forum Can you update the carplay app in the car? I would talk to the dealer ask if there is an update available? You seem to have tried everything on the other side Dave -
As Stu says Welcome to the Forum

Morning Linfsey When you say "skipping" I take it you mean jerking? First are the tyres matched and correct sizes front and rear. Transfer case issues are normally caused by wrong or mismatched tyres . Fitting a new or reconditioned Transfer case won't fix the problem, if the tyres are wrong you will just end up with another damaged transfer case. I would put a chalk mark at the bottom of each tyre roll the car forward one revolution of one tyre (chalk mark back at the bottom) all the others should be in the same position. If there is even a small variation front to rear over a distance it will wind up the transmission and damage the transfer box. The transfer box is not a differential so it can't cope with the front and rear covering different distances. Hope this helps Dave

Morning Terry I take it by the diagnostics carried out that all the obvious have been checked, Fuel pump (tick) Power relay ? Engine bay fuses ? Fuel pump controller ? My guess would be the fuel pump controller in the boot or under the rear seat depending on the model you have. A friend of one of our sons has a 120d and has had this issue twice. Hope this helps Dave

Morning Lee Welcome to the Forum Nice car By the way you are quoting an OBD adaptor and an App I assume you have been considering Carly for BMW? I have heard mixed reports of Carly (tried an early version my self) some like it others find it doesn't do all they need. Personally I would get a copy of ISTA/INPA and lead this will give Dealer level access, currently you can buy a copy with lead for around £100 mounted on a laptop for around £150 (well known Auction site just make sure the seller is UK based) I have also read good things about iCarsoft just make sure it is capable of communication with later models such as yours. The ISTA software will let you do everything you want to do and a lot more for less than the price of a diagnostic session at a Dealer Hope this is helpful

Relay theft for 3 Series?
Greydog replied to Davey-Suffolk's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Our CCTV didn't clearly show their faces and the car they turned up in was just out of shot so according to the Police so wasn't of any use? Seems they have to look at the camera and smile !! Second attempt they were called at the time (just after midnight) a car turned up after eight in the morning ??? When they returned CCTV showed they were at our front door obviously trying to get a signal from the key with no joy. So take the precautions yourself if they can't see the key on their scanner they they can't open the car, my son uses a crook lock on the steering wheel that also works as even if they are in the car it cant be driven. -
Relay theft for 3 Series?
Greydog replied to Davey-Suffolk's topic in Audio/Video/Electronics/Security
Morning David Sadly no matter what manufacturers do to try and protect your investment there are those out there who will try to find away round it. Just about any car that is equipped with "key less" go are vulnerable to this kind of theft. Going back to the early 2000's We had 2 attempts on my Mercedes fortunately they only gain entry not start the car before the dogs let us know they were there, open the door and let 5 dogs loose and they legged it CCTV footage supplied to the Police. Now if they gain entry they clone a key apparently. Mercedes offered a Farady bag to put the key into when not in use, as we had several cars at that time my solution was/is a small box lined with foil covered with cloth that all the keys are dropped into that does the same job. CCTV showed two more visits before they gave up on my car. So if you want to keep your pride and joy safe either buy a Faraday bag or like me line a small wooden box with tin foil then cover the foil with a soft material so key fobs dont get marked and make sure all keys are in the box. Morning Kelvin Welcome to the Forum Most of the faults will have come through the emergency use of the ABS as the other chassis faults will likely be linked. When was it's last service? What is the Brake Pad condition? Nice car by the way. First try disconnecting the battery for 30mins (a dealer trick) that should re-set everything, while the battery is disconnected test it for voltage anything below 12.5 volts will show either a flat or failing battery. If it's low try charging it fully (overnight minimum) With a fully charged battery reconnect and start the car if there is a genuine fault with the ABS faults will re-occur. If nothing returns it could just be a low voltage glitch or a sticky ABS solenoid as we don't need them that often. As an aside I don't know where you are but in Sussex a lot of cyclists wear the Sky team colours (Black) really useful on a murky morning ?? Good Luck Dave
