  1. Hi, I have noted important engine oil consumption. For every 3,000 Km (1,900 miles) 1 litre of engine oil has to be topped up. Furthermore when comparing the turbo whistling noise to another vehicle of same model, same year of manufacture and almost same mileage, its whistling noise seems 2 to 3 times louder. Vehicle performance seems same, no power loss, no visible engine oil leak (engine bay dry), not in limp mode. When “hard heavy acceleration - foot flat down” start on the red lights, cloud of smoke can be seen. When cruising during daylight, no visible smoke can be seen. But when driving at night and having the “following” car beam light from the rear (8-10m distance max), little smoke can be seen when driving at 70km/h (44 mph). In Mauritius, when the vehicle is checked by the “turbo” mechanic specialists, 19 times on 20, the turbo are replaced. I do not know if I am looking at two separate issues or it might be that the turbo that is causing that high engine oil consumption. I prefer to seek experienced advice for other causes that might be causing this high oil consumption and “higher” turbo whistling noise that has been around for more than 20,000 Km (13,000 miles). Is it a DIY to access (peek inside) the turbo to check the shaft bearings / scraping signs / broken-damaged blades / loose shaft movement (up and down)? How many turbo are there in that model? Some people say that there are two !!!; 1 small and 1 larger? Any other advice welcomed? Thanks beforehand
  2. Hi, I am looking for a replacement of left door mirror. My mirror is a basic pre LCI model (2006), heated, with puddle lamp and aspheric lens glass with the line. My mirror has 3 wires only to the 4 pin plug (Red, green and brown-last one is blank) whereas those found on ebay are mainly M sport models with 4 wires to the 4 pin plug (green, brown, red and white) or other plug types. My lens heating is 2 separate wires. Can the M sport mirror be fitted directly to my vehicle? 2. Will any programming be needed is the M sport mirror is fitted? Can I replace one side with the M sport model and leave the other side with the old pre LCI one? (at this point of time, I just forget about the gloss / matt support ring & the puddle lamp) Will the M sport mirror work on my pre LCI if the correct wiring colours are moved to the correct pin position and leaving the white wire out of the connection? Thanks beforehand for your help.
  3. Thanks. I have been able to sort the two problems. enjoy your day. Regards. I am actually facing another issue. Maybe you have some knowledge on it and might be of help. Hereunder is the description. Hi, I am looking for a replacement of left door mirror. My mirror is a basic pre LCI model (2006), heated, with puddle lamp and aspheric lens glass with the line. 4. Hi all, I have 2 issues. 1. I need guidance to remove the door mirror glass tilting motor-actuator. Mirror glass lens and painted ABS cover had been successfully removed. Motor-actuator rear electric connector with the three retaining wings had also been removed. But the motor-actuator seems somehow tightly fixed and seems that it is retained by some other things or process. 2. I also need guidance to remove the e60 front door trim from the door frame. One screw covered with plastic cap towards/near vehicle frame, had been removed. Another screw behind the airbag badge cover also removed. Trim retaining plastic plugs detached. Trim removal is obstructed by tweeter cover. Any hints / guidance to safely remove the trim welcomed. Thanks beforehand.
  5. Hi all, Due to local road conditions I am planning to replace the BMW e60 tyre dimensions from 225/50R17 to 205/55R17. The 205/55R17 is not found on the recommended vehicle tyre dimension list. The rolling circumference for the 225/50R17 is 1980.86mm whilst the 205/55R17 is 1982.37mm In my case speedometer reading is not an issue. Assuming that winter / snow tyres are “ideally” of smaller footprint width with higher side section height, there might be someone that might have been using this tyre size. Does anybody have the experience / problem using the 205/55R17? i.e. iDrive warning, “false” flat tyre indicator warning, brake and driving control systems failure or warning; etc Thank you
  6. Hi Jack, How do you remove & put back again the belt going round the vibration damper pulley and the aircon pulley? Mine do not have the tensioner? The belt reference is BMW 6455 7792 851 692637 4 pk 836 Contitech 15 CR 20 04 06. It seems the original one since new. It seems that it had never been replaced since first registered. I believe that the 20 04 06 is the date of manufacture of the belt. i.e. Manufactured on 20th April 2006. The car was manufactured on 08 June 2006. Thanks
  7. Thanks Jack, I shall give it a try and shall keep you posted. Regards. Yannick :)
  8. Hi Jack, Thanks for your reply. I understand your point. But I am having difficulties to access the back bottom bolt retaining the aircon compressor to the engine. The one at the back side of the compressor. (not the one on the compressor pulley side). It seems that the engine support needs to be released or removed first. That is why I am looking for information on how to unmount the compressor from its assy. I actually need to replace the compressor axle seal. Do you have any indication / steps to follow on how to proceed? Regards
  9. Dear all, I was wondering if anybody ever removed the aircon compressor. Thanks to advise steps / procedure for 2006 e60 520d M47 engine-Air conditioner compressor removal. Regards
  10. Hello, I am new Bimmer owner and to website forum. I have a “Battery charge very low” warning alert one minute after having stopped engine but did not eject the FOB key. (ie waiting for someone; with radio on). Also noted that clock, date, odometer reading is reset. Battery replaced by BMW official dealer with higher capacity from 80AH 640A to a Fiamm Titanium L5100+ 100Ah 870A in Nov 2011. Battery registration also made by dealer. 2006 e60 have 111,000 Km on clock. Every day I drive the vehicle with any problem. Starting the engine on first push, with no “fading” start sound / feeling. I have read several possible faults from alternator, alternator voltage regulator, Intelligent battery sensor (IBS). Thanks to advise any hint what can be causing this problem and how to sort it out. Best regards Yannick Drives 2006 e60 520d NC 32 Made in Germany
