  1. Hi Paddy....welcome to the Forum Let us know how you get on with the new wheels Cheers, Trevor
  2. Hi Craig...welcome to the Forum Sorry to hear you're having such bother already. If it was me attempting to diagnose the fault, I would first run a Leak Down Test (introducing compressed air into the cylinders and seeing where it is escaping from). If you put the cylinder being tested on BDC and remove the rad cap, if there are air bubbles in the coolant then you have a cracked cylinder liner or head gasket if the piston....try it also at TDC. Repeat for all cylinders. If the air is escaping through the inlet or exhaust then it would be valves or if it is coming out of the oil filler cap it would be piston rings. Saves a huge amount of stripping down to establish exactly where the problem is. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  3. Hi Jordan....welcome to the Forum I believe the badge is 82mm and there are various options for designs available on eBay. Let's hope your Beemer gives you many years of trouble-free motoring. Cheers Trevor
  4. Hi Bruce....welcome back to the Forum Not sure about the height when fully elevated but maybe worth measuring outside before attempting it indoors...but if you do, please make sure you video it :-) Not sure also if the manufacturers would put information such as 'height required' in the handbook? Cheers, Trevor
  5. Hi Madison....welcome to the Forum Very nice indeed! I like the registration number, very appropriate
  6. Hi Andrew....welcome to the Forum If the engine light is on and the economy meter/gauge is wondering from low to high, I would imagine it has something to do with the Air Mass Meter or MAP sensor (if fitted). Look for split vacuum hoses in the engine bay, otherwise, I would imagine any local garage can scan your car and give you a diagnosis for around £35-40. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  7. It depends on where you live, Ian, in Dorset no-one tends to let you out in whatever you're driving/riding....very territorial about their bit of space on the road I guess.
  8. Hi Ben...welcome to the Forum That is a fine looking Beemer...absolutely looks the business! Don't think it needs any more mods, looks fine as it is in my opinion Good to have you onboard Cheers, Trevor
  9. Hi Matt....welcome to the Forum I totally agree with Greydog on his judgement with the oil specs and the fact that your X5 has done a higher mileage I don't think I would go with the lighter grade...best to go with the 5w40 and you shouldn't need any additional additives if you get a quality oil (Mobil1, Shell, etc) Let us know how you get on with it all. Cheers, Trevor
  10. lol....now that would be spooky !
  11. Hi Ian....welcome to the Forum and welcome to the dark side (the wonderful world of BMW) Cheers, Trevor
  12. Good luck with your venture, amazing what you can do with a 3D printer nowadays
  13. Hi Phillip Exactly as Greydog has mentioned, carefully check the wiring, alternatively plug in the instrument cluster and wiggle the wiring leading up to it to see if that brings it to life, if so then you've found the break/short circuit. The instruments went out on my Z3 just the once so never bothered to find the fault. But also worth checking to see if there is water ingress anywhere under the dash or in the boot area. Keep us updated on what you find with this. Cheers Trevor
  14. Hi Stuart...welcome to the Forum Certainly sits nicely on those wheels Cheers, Trevor
  15. Hi Mick....welcome to the Forum I agree with Greydog....there are so many factors that affect mpg but I would certainly start with ensuring the car is serviced properly as that will make a huge difference. Cheers, Trevor
  16. I suppose at least you had the interior blind across so that the glass fragments didn't go all over the interior. I believe Lexus have this problem as well but I have only heard of that in the US. Keep us updated with progress Robert
  17. Hi Andy...welcome to the Forum...and welcome back to BMW The unit could have gone faulty I suppose but it is just a bypass mechanism but should have some electronics in it (resistor/diode) For what they cost, I would be tempted to put another one in as this has clearly been a problem in the past for someone. Let us know how you get on with it Cheers Trevor
  18. You could try dropping the rear seats to see if they are rubbing against the panels
  19. Hi Andrew....welcome to the Forum Fine looking car ! Cheers Trevor
  20. Agreed, I do think MIchelin seem to come out on top all round
  21. Just make sure you don't turn the steering wheel at all whilst it is all disconnected as there is an SRS rotary coupling which can be damaged if turned beyond its limits, otherwise, its just nuts and bolts. Good luck
  22. Hi Michael...welcome to the Forum The only thing I can really find on the FPR is the following information and replacement filter assembly from somewhere in the States. We recommend preventative replacement of the fuel filter at 60-80,000 mile intervals. Replacing your fuel filter with this Genuine BMW fuel filter with built in fuel pressure regulator will help prevent the filter from becoming clogged. A clogged fuel filter can result in a variety of problems including stalling, cold start problems, and reduced performance. https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-19439-fuel-filter-with-pressure-regulator-e85-z4-e89-z4/ Have never removed/refitted one before but assume it is in the fuel tank and requires obvious H&S and common sense with flammable fumes, etc. Let us know if you find anything else out about the R&R of the filter Cheers Trevor
  23. Hi Jake...welcome to the Forum Great looking car! I always work on the principle of getting the best you can for the money and I think the Eisenmann is worth the high cost Let us know how you get on with this Cheers, Trevor
  24. I'm only guessing here as never done it myself but if the replacement engine is only a larger capacity then it would be done by bore or stroke and as long as you swap over as many ancillaries and components as possible then it should work okay Let us know what you discover Cheers Trevor
