  1. Yeah I would prefer to go downbeat the flush route first. I’m booking car into a Bmw specialist this time, buddy said they are the guys to sort it out. Have couple of wee niggles so will get everything done in one go.
  2. Well just back from garage and the guys have seen this problem before with this valve control sensor. its a £300 part and probably a £250 fit due to the time, I have looked up the YouTube video and does look a hassle. I asked about the flush but guys weren’t convinced it would work.
  3. Hi trevor yeah the guys I’m going down to see tomorrow will hopefully do the flush, it’s a strange one. Car runs great then suddenly EML light and basically no power. Will post results once flush done.
  4. Hi Trevor. Yeah the AA guy suggested that may help solve the issue. I’ve been doing a course the past 4 weekends which required a 70 mile round trip and I had no issues at all then if I stop for couple of mins say for petrol the EML light would come on and cut the power! One of THOSE ones I’m afraid.
  5. hi team looking to see if anyone had fault code 2A38 pop up. My engine management light came on today and i lost all power!!! ive booked car into garage but just wondering if anyone expierenced same problem. the AA patrol guy who stuck the diagnostic on it read "valve lift control eccentric shaft control motor, component stiff." 2A38
  6. Hi team. Anyone out there recommend a replacement bulb type for my e92 please. I have a bulb out so will replace both sides with a nice bright set, it's for the daylight running halos. The first set I bought is a !Removed! non starter as in I just can't get it fitted!!! I know the space is small to work in but I just can't get the new bulb clicked in! It's easy to put the old back in so any suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. Yep I think that's the most prudent course of action Trevor. The last service on car was a BMW specialist and the previous one was by Arnold Clar, the rest was bmw. So good chance the cheap pads went on. I'll say to my guy when changing to check them out.
  8. Hi Trevor. Yes I do agree with regarding changing the fluid seems to me an important part of care for car. Will organise just for peace of mind and if any member can refer me to a reputable specialist up here in freezing Scotland I would be grateful. As for the braking issue have you ever heard of new pads being "cooked" before proper running in period? I myself tend to thinks new discs would solve the problem. Cheers
  9. Hi all. Been looking on various sites and of course YouTube as to change my transmission fluid on my e92. Seems to be a different train of thought as to keep the fluid as is( BMW advise this apparently) and most youtubers advise to change! So here I am asking the ones in the know should I go ahead and change it? Ive had the car for nearly 6 months and all the history and receipts Ive got show no record of it being done. It's just ticked over a 100k and still drives perfectly, touch wood! Oh and one other gripe I have with it is the braking performance, I'm getting a slight wobble on steering wheel as I brake and again looking at its history it's had pads an discs renewed and to the naked eye the discs looked good. Is there any other issue to consider? Thanks in advance team 👍
  10. Hey Lorraine welcome to the club. Will be a great source of help if you ever need it. Nice beemer too 👍
  11. Haha yeah I'll blind her with science!!! It's about the only time I get to "win" lol. My other query was the fuel issue in my car. Do I use the super duper fancy stuff or stick to the regular unleaded. I've heard various views on that issue and would like to hear the forums expert opinion lol
  12. Hi trevor yeah i thought as much due to the construction of the runflat tyres. I'll try source a good set of "normal" tyres and invest in the slime you mentioned. Speaking to various bm owners it was a real difference to the ride quality once they made the change. Would like to hear the members views on here as well coz ive got to tell the missus I'm going to shell out best part of £500 on new set of boots!!! She will be over the moon with that news especially since the man with the big white beard going to be hear soon!!!! 😬😬😬
  13. Hi Trevor. When you say using "slime" and I apologise for my ignorance in advance lol do you mean filling up the existing run flat tyres???
  14. Cheers Trevor. Just spent the yesterday going round the family showing them new brief! So will post pics once I've gave it the treatment. Cheers again
  15. Hi Jamie. I just picked up my new 330 coupe which has run flats all round. Did you do the swap for normal tyres and how was the ride after that? Also my main concern is getting the dreaded puncture so is a can of tyre foam required? Cheers
  16. Hi all, after much searching and angst trying to find my ideal car I can now say whoohoo! Ive just a round trip of 625 miles to pick up my 330 coupe in montego blue with minted msport upgrade leather interior. Car drove faultlessly all the way home and when required went like the proverbial sh@t off the shovel!! Certainly puts a smile on your face. Next step is to get it all polished and valeted and I'll post photos. Would like to thank "greydog( x5 guru) and "e46 king" for all their advice. The forum is a fantastic source of knowledge to have and I'll be promoting it to my beemer driving buddies.
  17. Hi grey dog.

Ive got a chance of getting a 4.6is 2003 model this week. I'm going to go and see it but it is a bit of a journey away. Spoke to seller and told me he got all oils and filters done and new battery installed all with receipts to prove. It's got 67K on the clock which I thought was quite good. He did say part service history???

i checked out your post on what to check for so any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks buddy.

      Hi Steve

£3500 is a low price for a low miles 4.6 so don't view it through rose tinted glasses.

When you arrive start by asking the guy to open the bonnet and make sure the engine is cold, if its been run be suspicious  check all the fluids are good and no obvious leaks BMW V8s have a habit of leaking oil from the rocker covers (I take a set of trow away overalls and rubber gloves) next get under and again check for leaks you wont see much under the engine but check the gearbox.

If all seems good time to start it up the reason you want it cold is so you can here any cold start rattles from the timing chain area. now while the engine is running and warming up make sure everything works and I do mean everything (there are no cheap fixes with a BMW) if the seller says you can get the part off ebay for a fiver ask yourself why he hasn't done it? Every switch should do what it was intended to do especially the sun roof if it has one. While you have the suit on check the tyres for wear (inside edges) odd wear will indicate bushes on their way.

Suit off and time for a drive, again check everything works as it should the car should accelerate cleanly with almost unfelt changes from the box, make sure the box is good in sport and manual modes. When its fully warmed up from about 60/70 check the rear view and brake quite hard (not and emergency stop) your looking for it to slow down quickly with no vibration or pulling to one side you also will find out if the gearbox has the lurch when coming to a stop. If the mileage is genuine the gearbox is due a service ZF recommend fluid and filter changes between 80 and 100000 km 60 to 80000 miles.

Outside they can get paint fading and peel (well they are getting on) remember a full engine rebuild on a 4.6 will set you back between 3 and 6k (parts alone will be around 2k) a gearbox rebuild between 1500 and 2500k if its good get it as they are  getting rarer and will appreciate if they are not messed with.

Get a warranty with for your protection with low miles they should take it on it will give you protection if big bits drop off. Mine is with Warranty direct they pay all labour (up to £60 p hr) plus 50% of parts.

Early this year I had the engine rebuilt on mine (the Warranty was great) and in March on the rolling road it showed 287 horse power at the wheels. I am in my 70's but still love having a 2 ton car that is happy carting me and the dogs off road when I am shooting, pulls a horse box like it isn't there and can seriously embarrass all but really serious sports cars out of roundabouts and overtaking. Ride is quite harsh on the factory 20's much better on my 18" winter wheels but that is a personal thing.

I hope this helps anymore questions give me a shout

      Hi Dave.

First thing is thank you for the brilliant reply and secondly can you get to FortWilliam before Wednesday 😂

But seriously I'm hoping to get up to see it in next day or two as long as I can get time off work. I'll take all your great advice with me and hopefully all will be well.

I called warranty direct today and they will call me back tomorrow morning to discuss what they can offer, one of the stipulations was the car not being over 12 years old but as a 2003 plate they may be willing, due to the mileage being low to offer me something. Fingers crossed on that.

Ive had quite a few e39,s in my car history and they have always been solid and reliable varying from 525 to 530 but I've always hankered for that growl only a V8 can make. The added bonus of 4wheel drive means if the snow comes then I can still leave the house ! Those e39 are great but a dusting of the white stuff and your stranded.  Lol

Once again thanks for your reply and I'll hopefully get a deal done soon. Cheers

      Your welcome Steve

Fort William hells teeth that's a mission in it's self.

The BMW V8 has some weaknesses (as do Audi Jaguar and even a couple of the Yanks they all use to much plastic these days !!) but is a great power producer. It is also reasonably economic when in cruise (well I think so) giving a solid 350+ between fill ups, on the Motorway I set cruise at around the 80 mark.

Having owned AMG's I know what you mean about not needing much slippy stuff to make brown trousers a required accessory. On the 4.4 I ran 19" Grabber UHP all year round and they were terrific, the tyre sizes for the 4.6 being 20's restrict the range quite a bit so I brought a set of 18" wheels fitted with Wintrac extreme for the white stuff got them off ebay for £200 complete.

      Good luck

  18. BUY BUY BUY!!! No other argument!!!!
  19. Posted about 545i last week Paul missed it. And you made me laugh about putting chains on!!! ive got trouble changing a headlight bulb😂 To to be honest I just want to jump in and drive it.
  20. Hi team. The saga continues! I'm going to see a 520d msport this weekend, it's a 2007 lci model looks minted. My worry is the engine type, ie is it the n47 that's in it? My concern being the chain tensioners failing. It's done 70k with full history. Any advice, thoughts etc???
  21. Phone call today......car reserved. I'm buying a bike😩😩😩
  22. Car hunt update!! looking at a 545i se it's in a dealership that I know quite well. Got a good friend who is a brand manager for them so might be able to get a good deal put together it's got full service history, only two owners and the best part is it's only got 40k on it! Late 04 plate and they looking for £5488. Any thoughts on running costs and servicing? Only reason im asking is I've never really thought about a v8 and what you guys think of that engine ie reliability and the like. Cheers
  23. Haha it is a cracking looking car but two seats just wouldn't work for me, ok for a second car me thinks. He was showing me pics of it when taken on a bright Sunday morning up in the highlands and between the car and the valley beyond it was just amazing. Told him to post those pics when he selling it. He in a z4 owners club and going to post there and other advertisers. Made of few inquiries about couple of nice 325 mspotrs so waiting to hear.
  24. Yep I'm now thinking good things comes to he who waits! And yeah my search is all over uk, I'm watching about 15 cars on eBay and another 15 odd on pistonheads and most of them down south( I'm just outside Glasgow) so will be prepared to go a jaunt if required. Also word of mouth can be quite handy at times as well, had an engineer in my work today and he selling a z4 msport with 40k on the clock, extended bmw warranty as well. Downside is he wants 10 grand!! Had a laugh about it though. Guy in th gym last night selling a jag xf late 2012 plate! Offered to buy the alloys!!!!😂😂😂
  25. Cheers for the positivity paul. Was bit disappointed about it falling thruogh. Think the worse thing was taking the car a test drive and loving it!!! Not seen any of that condition anywhere as well😩 and price!!! But I'll keep the faith and hopefully something will pop up, my trusty e39 is still driving sweet and motd till July so got plenty of time to pick and choose. 👍
