  1. Thanks Jonny, I see your from Angus so it was maybe me, black 5 door in the Arbroath area? Regards Steve
  2. Its a huge issue on all BMW 4 cylinder petrol and diesel engines from 2006 - 2010, BMW are trying to hide this issue but not managing, start doing your homework on the internet and you will see its a massive problem and BMW should man up and admit once these engine get miles on them that the chains are stretching on cars that have been diagnosed in time and that the chains and tensioners are breaking up ones that haven't. Your car will have shown minor symptoms such as cold start rattle in the morning, slightly rough idle on tick over but its not easy to notice as its easy to miss. Chains were for life once upon a time but because of money saving they are letting this great brand down badly, the recall is already out for all diesel engine 4 cylinder cars that were produced from September 2007, IE all the cars that had the stop start function and in time they will have to admit to the petrol 4 cylinder being made of the same garbage components!!! My advice is to not let it drop, the only way this issue will be sorted is by customers complaining in numbers IE internet campaigns and petitions, the reason they are getting away with this just now is because many of these cars have passed to new owners and the new owner just thinks they have been unlucky but its happening to low miles 1 owner cars but because these cars now have a few years under there belts they fob people off, its not right and the chains and tensioners are indeed "unfit for purpose"!!! I wish you well in your efforts and if its any help this issue has indeed been covered by the television program Watchdog. Steve
  3. Hi Mike 325 and 330 are to all intention and purpose the same engine, 325 is a lesser bhp, they are both "straight six" not V6 and the difference in MPG is little if anything, best to get a 330 as you will love the grunt and go when you require it, whatever you go for just make sure it has great service history, check for rust around all 4 wheel arches and the bottom of the front wings and around the boot lock. When starting cold listen for any rattles from the engine, make sure there are no warning lights on the dash. Front seats can suffer from wear on the bolsters but its an easy sort and in short just press every button and make sure it does what it say it should do! Best to try and buy as new as you can afford, and remember and do an HPI check on what you decide. Steve
  4. DSC is nothing to do with the ride of the car, to put it simply when DSC is on it keeps the traction under control but put it off on wet or greasy roads and it will end up in you !Removed! yourself going round in circles. Steve
  5. If you bought it from a garage then take it back and tell them to sort it, if you bought it private sale then oh dear. Start googling the fault codes. You must get the codes cleared then run it a few hundred miles and see which ones have come back, and as long as its black smoke under hard acceleration they all do it but not so as it blocks out the sun. Steve
  6. Hi Craig welcome to the forum Steve
  7. Simon get the codes as it could be the seat mats at fault or the seat belt buckles or an airbag ECU no point in guessing. Regards Steve
  8. Hi Matt welcome to the forum and enjoy the 1 series. Regards Steve
  9. Loads of companies that will repair any unit with burst pixels, just google it. As Dilly has said the fluid is for life bit its easy changed and new filters are available through BMW Regards Steve

  11. Picked up my new toy today, the deal was so good I had to do it!!! Parked beside my E53 is a new M135 and I have got to say, feckin WOW. It a really impressive tool that goes even better than I had expected. Got a 19% discount for two reasons 1 There is a new model on its way now 2 The garage needed it registered this month as it was a fully paid car Anybody that's thinking of getting a new 1 Series now is the time dealers are looking to shift a load of new run out stock and I recon I got a bargain. I will get some pics up soon. Regards Steve
  12. You have an E90 though Bruce, my I phone 4s would not pair on any E39 E46 or E53, I bought a new Samsung and it pairs with anything not sure why this is though. Regards Steve
  13. A new DPF wont just fail without reason. 1 Check to see if the glow plugs are working, if not then it could be the ECU for them £94.17 + VAT If that all proves to be ok then my guess is the throttle pot is full of oil because vacume pipes are perished and dropping oil into it, £251.67 + VAT Did this very job this month that started as a DPF failure but after being in and out 3 times I got to the bottom of it and to add insult to injury the exhaust manifold was cracked also and that was another £343.34 + VAT and the labour above all that came to just under £1200. Diesels are to much bother mate petrol is the way to go. Regards Steve
  14. A6 TDi or petrol?
  15. Its not just your car mate its all diesels they are a pain in the ##### with age and miles, are there any other codes stored? Steve
