Hi everyone, Just joined up as i thought it would be good to firstly make people aware, and secondly see if anyone else has had the same problem! BMW 118d F20 (62), had it for around a year, 15k miles on the clock, previous owner was one of the BMW managers at my local dealer. A faint rattle occurred at 1000rpm, worse on cold starts and under strain, say when balancing it on an incline. When it had its first service I asked them to look at it, apparently fixed the problem by tightening the exhaust but i could still hear it. Took it back and after two days of investigations, turns out there is a fault with the DPF which now needs replacing, together with a flexi pipe leading to it being cracked. You're looking at £700+ for a used DPF, new ones from BMW i've been told are in the region of £1500! Plus the flexi pipe, plus labour its a £2000+ job. Luckily, mine has a year left on its warranty; DPFs should last 80,000miles or so and i do mainly motorway driving which helps them regenerate. Everyone was telling me not to be so fussy "its only a rattle", "a plastic cover will be loose, forget it" but turns out, i've saved myself a small fortune. So, it may be worth having a listen for a rattle from the front end for all fellow F20 diesel owners, indeed all BMW diesel owners. All round though, credit to Bowker BMW in Preston for finding the fault as it was only a faint rattle, and holding their hands up and replacing the parts under warranty, all whilst having a brand new 116d as a replacement car. Any one else heard of this happening? Essay over aha
